Tottenham Hotspur fan Expressions Oozing and Manchester City supporter Esteemed Kompany - AKA Steven McInerney - squared-off as tempers boiled over during a debate around Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola.
Ahead of the massive Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City Premier League fixture this weekend, the A Tenner Says panel debated Mourinho and Guardiola and which of the two will leave the Premier League with the greater legacy.
Perhaps surprisingly, Chelsea fan Rory Jennings and Flex of The United Stand agreed with Expressions that Mourinho's achievements are more impressive than his rival's as the Portuguese has won silverware with the likes of Porto and Inter, compared to Guardiola who was perceived by the panel to have only ever taken top jobs with pots of money and who has 'failed' at City due to his poor Champions League record.
This provoked a furious response from McInerney, who argued Guardiola has not only won trophies but also changed the way football is played.

Faisal same could be said about Bayern Munich and manchester city. Last year practically everyone apart from Bayern were faltering and his city side were doing well in europe yet he still couldn't get past Lyon. I'm sorry, at least mourinho went out to Peps best ever team, a Borussia dortmund side that beat the treble winning Bayern to the title the season before and he lost to another team in 2011 2012

It's a quick format, they don't want to linger forever about subjects, different kind of content from what they do individually. It could definitely be boosted to the 10min mark but the format was clear from the beginning

Ask players how much they've learnt from Pep. I think Jose is another type of manager, he guarantees you success everywhere. Players like Eto and Zlatan love him because of his capabilities to motivate for example. Pep is another type, a student of Cruyff. I don't know if Jose or another manager could do the Job like this at Barca with this style. There is surely a reason why this Barcelona side is seen as one of the best teams in history and Pep plays a big part in it with his philosophy. His dedication is so big for the game that even quite average players like Clichy say that they want to become a coach because of Pep. In Bayern Boateng once said that Pep showed him so many videos how to defend etc., he became one of the best in his prime. Also in the Bayern time, Germany won the world cup, don't think that is a coincidence... Look at Sterling now, where he is. And one other point: Why should Pep now go to a lower team? Maybe in the future but the time of a manager is limited. Imo it is a total disrespect towards Pep when you say he is only a cheque book manager, and his former people confirm that. All in all, both great managers but I like Pep more because of his playing style/philosophie.

I don't think Pep had everything set up for him at Barcelona. He promoted new players and build a style of football that was unrivalled at the time. His success at Barcelona can be attributed to him as much as it's to Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and Busquet. His vision and meticulousness brought about the Barcelona dominance

Also set a points record in england with chelsea. Treble with Inter, has won the champions league with 2 different clubs (only 2 others have done the same) Had a perfect home record (17-0-0) in his second full season at Porto. Youngest manager to reach 100 CL games. 9 year (yes NINE) unbeaten home record as a manager, along with fewest goals conceded in one season and most unbeaten home games in the premier league. Most goals for a team scored in la liga with 109 (3.1 per game) So yes i think i have a pretty good argument. Pep is amazing but i’m sorry Mourinho is just incredible

This myth that Guardiola "changed the way football is being played with tiki taka" has to stop. Johan Cruyff brought that style of football to Barcelona and they've been playing that style of for the past 3 decades. The true origin of tiki taka comes from Ajax and the Dutch national team and it is called total football. The Dutch are the true pioneers. Even Arsene Wenger's Arsenal played a similar style of football long before Guardiola became a manager/coach.

He is rebuilding by spending to help the team compete at the top level. Also, city weren't set up for pep. We had a lot of oldies and dead weight which needed to be replaced with new blood via spending thus the 1st season had no trophies and the second season had the centurions. Granted that city have given him a big wallet to spend from but if you see career wise spending both managers have spent above a billion pounds each and not much in between.

No one's saying we couldn't win with the existing players in 2016. But the bald prick needs players that fit "his style" for it to work albeit at a big cost to the club but our owners can literally piss money away so why do I care. Not a spurs fan. In fact I hate Spurs, but Pep is so overrated. He's one of the greatest managers of all time, but he can only dream of doing the things Mourinho did. There are levels. Mourinho made dreams come true by winning the UCL with a written off Porto side, dominating the league and breaking records with a developing Chelsea, coming in 2nd place with an utterly shite Man Utd side, and creating a presence that no manager will ever be able to replicate. When he dies part of football will die with him. I dont think you can say the same for Pep. I dont really like him anymore and he's past his prime, but dont compare Pep to him. Mourinho was a level above everyone else in his prime.

Pep has managed clubs who have had an amazing squad already. The Barca side he got the treble is arguably the greatest side in football so winning the treble although its difficult, its what was expected of them. After barca, pep went to 2 of the best teams in their respective leagues, in terms of winning the titles, and couldn't take them further. Pep can never be held as the greatest due to this. Mourinho has gone to clubs who, are fair enough, competing for the league, but he has elevated them to win bigger and better things. He is at Spurs right now to prove that he still has what it takes to elevate a club. There's no real expectation of Spurs to win anything so he would kind of go under the radar just due to their history

With all that money available to him, you'd have thought he should be winning the Champions League at least ONCE at City, but year after year he inexplicably loses against the underdogs: Monaco 2017, Liverpool 2018 (still the underdogs, as it was not quite the fully developed Liverpool team we know today), Spurs 2019 and Lyon 2020. It’s something people like expressions and Rory don’t get. Good players/team/money DOES NOT EQUAL SUCCESS! if that was true a team like currently Chelsea would’ve already dominated the league, or a team like PSG would’ve already destroyed European competition multiple years in a row, yet they haven’t. Football nowadays has such a DEEP understanding and especially when it comes to the games, if you don’t have a credible being holding the strings (the manager) then your team isn’t going to win ANYTHING! Sure, Mourinho won it with Porto and Inter, but football back then was so simple and wasn’t complicated, like I genuinely think that if Pep ran a team like 2003/04 Monaco he would definitely won the champions league with them using his current tactics. It’s because back then football was pass here pass there, it didn’t have that tactical deep ness in it, it’s why actual good managers succeeded in the early 2000s and around 2009 times. Now, football is so sophisticated to a level that most people would feel dumb if they go here on RU-vid and watch Liverpool VS City Tactical Analysis. Both of these managers are brilliant and instead of telling the other one he isn’t good, why don’t we just appreciate they’re even still managing because these magical styles of play will ultimately disappear, especially that incredible mind of Mourinho and the genius philosophy of Guardiola.

The difference between the two is that jose is ready to challenge himself in tough situations and he has won in those tough situations like in Porto or inter, that's why he went for Tottenham rather than waiting for PSG to sack tuchel after the utd debacle (if mou would have been available they would have 100% sacked him), I don't think pep will ever challenge himself to that degree, however the records pep has broken with his teams are phenomenal and cannot be overruled because he spent money or had a good team whatever

Steven hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. Pep couldn't win the UCL with a strong Bayern Munich side or after spending over 1 billion on defenders. Jose won it with Porto and won the Treble with Inter, and made Chelsea a football powerhouse. Pep was carried by Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta.

Inter have never been the same since he left, Porto aren’t the powerhouse they used to be, because all those clubs had to repair dressing rooms, gain back the faith of star players who didn’t want to defend for 90 minutes and this in the long run hurts a team. Chelsea have never fully recovered from the second time he left. Conte may have won the title, but it was with a bunch of old guys, who were now leaving their prime in a league where everyone else was trash that year. Now labors has the impossible job of having to get Chelsea back to where they want to be with kids. There is no such thing as a long term plan with mourinho, he brings short term success
