I've had a Hyosung for 18 months and haven't had a single problem with it at all. From 2008 onwards Hyosung fixed many problems with their bikes. Hyosung puts out decent stuff that looks and performs quite well. It's not top-of-the line, of course, but it doesn't pretend to be. It's solid, reliable value for money. If you get a Hyosung, take care of it and it won't let you down.

I love my Hyosung. I ride a gsxr now but I still have my 08 gt250r and its never had a problem besides the battery. I dont think I could ever get rid of my first bike.

I've owned a 250r ninja and now I own a hyosung gt250r if u ask me I will take the hyosung sounds better bigger bike breathes supersport n sits on same frame as their brother the gt650r so when ur ready to get a bigger bike buy the motor and trans from a gt650r and leave the 250 decals can we say sleeper.... Also give some respect to the bike I've gotten nothing but compliments on mine and it has no power issues as everyone else claims it has nice acceleration and a decent top speed.....I do have some vids posted with me on my gt250r going to work and I just don't see any issues. If all ur worried about is getting a japanese bike then go ahead u want to start on a 600, 750, or 1000cc bike go ahead just don't expect anybody to give a shit when u fuck up on a bigger that's to much for you because you want to be cool looking and keep up with everyone else....YOU RIDE AND LEARN AT YOUR OWN PACE.

I've had my Hyo 250 now for over a year. Never a problem. Starts first time, clean as a whistle. Sounds great and goes great for my commute, plenty of power. Looks way better than the boy racer ninja and is full size. Thats why i chose Hyo over nija.

I have had no trouble with riding my Ninja 250 in the rain. And this riding season has been especially wet. The tires have great grip, even when it's 45F and raining.

I don't think that's too much of an issue, I know a couple of peeps in our riding group who started with R1s and Busas. Slowly and steady learners, now full flight 'cars are chicanes' riders. As for me, I started on a 125 for a few years, then went straight to a 1000.

Here's a little more info on the Hyusong. They were/are a parts dealer out of Korea. They used to manufacture the entire line of Suzuki motorcycles until they spun of their own bike division in 1989.

based on other people experiences, looks like the hyosung is not that bad, the only bad thing about this bike is that sometimes you get a bad apple, I remember reading about it and some people were complaining about the engine breaking down when it was brand new, various problems and much more, while others said they never had problems. If this company wants to increase popularity they have to step it up on reliability and consistency in delivering a good product.

I just bought a 2008 hyosung gt250r and am very happy with the bike. I am apprehensive to see what happens to through the year, but think it will give me more confidence in my riding compared to the ninja. Id say test drive both and see what you like before you just buy one. I have put 2k miles on the bike and have not had any troubles yet. We will see what happens love the bike. If you have any questions or want to know more message me.

Lot of information packed into the video. In the states, the Hyosung is actually more expensive than the Kawasaki and the owner has the additional handicap of a limited dealer network for the Hyosung. Big issue when parts are needed for even basic maintenance.
@GenomeSoldier71
@GenomeSoldier71 16 лет назад
Both. I suppose it reduces wind-noise as well, because the air flowing around your helmet to your back has a smoother path. Sometimes even little vents on helmets can make a big difference for noise because of that, so I'm sure that kind of suit makes a difference as well.

I just checked the BBB website and there are only 3 complaints in the past 36 months. They seem to stem from warranty issues. Two of the complaints were resolved and one expired due to no action taken by the person making the complaint. It isn't as bad as you made it sound.

I wish they would have kept testing the Hyo for some more time, mine is 3 years old already and it sure didn't fell apart like they have predicted in the video. This test is pretty unfair to the Hyo which is a very nice machinery bu the way (not only because I have one)...

I own a Hyosung GT650R and I park it outside on the street (covered) and i do not have any rust and the bike is not falling apart after 1 year and I did not had any problems with it at all it just works well. Of course there are short commings like the brakes and the gearbox is notchy a little bit but hey it is 30 % cheaper to get it on the road as a Suzuki SV650S or a Kawasaki ER6 plus 2 year warranty.

I’ve owned 2 ninja 250s and recently got a Hyosung 250 and I won’t lie, I have more fun on the Hyosung, it feels heavier and with the beefier tank it gives the impression like a bigger bike, it sounds far better than the ninja 250, I couldn’t stand the sound of the parallel twin but the V twin on the Hyosung is a lot more bearable, it’s pretty reliable and I never had any issues with it, don’t know what he’s on about the bike being poor quality, the paint on mine is very good and it’s got heaps of km on it, been 2 years and still nothing has fallen apart 😂

I'm 5'6" 200lbs with a 28" inseam. I can put both feet down when at a stoplight. The ninja 500 is a great commuter with more than enough power to keep up with traffic on the expressway ( 80 mph). It'll get 50 mpg if you ride at 55-60mph or 40-45 mpg if you ride like i do (75-80mph) For my weight class, the suspension is a bit soft but that is getting fixed this winter.
@MrTombstoneMedia

I have the GT125, and it is a fantastic bike to ride. How ever It could do with being a few hundred cheaper than the rest as the first things I recommend people do with hyosung bikes are to change the exhaust as it will fall apart after winter and change every nut and bolt for one that wont rust over night. Aside from that they are by far one of the most fun bikes I have ridden (although ive only ridden a CBR125, YBR125, GT125 & a GZ125)

Back in 2005, and some 2006 bikes did have the paint and rust issues, but Hyosung changed their paint process to powder coating. This process really doesn't allow for orange peeling, watch the review again and listen carefully when he said the GT250R actually out performed the Kawi and that the tires on the Kawi were almost dangerous.

My friend brought a Hyo GT250 to get into riding on the cheap, after two weeks it started rusting, and two months the engine started knocking. I had a Honda VTR 250 at that time that was my first bike and if your getting into riding I highly advise checking it out, great build quality, flawless engine and it left the GT250 in the dust. Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the reply. Good to get clarification. I think the 250 will be fine for me, even on the highway. The only thing is, if I'm traveling at highway speeds and need a boost of acceleration for whatever reason, it's probably not going to be there. But I want it as more of a commuter bike anyways. The occasional leisurely highway rides while I learn the fundamental skills I'll need for a big bike, as well.

I have a 2007 GT250R and there isn't a spot of rust on it. I bought it as a leftover in 2008, and it's been perfect all along. I like it a lot more than the ninja. The ninja just seems like you're less a part of the bike because you have to reach so far forward for the handlebars. The hyo just feels right, not to mention the fact that it's much bigger, meaning I can use it for longer before I have to upgrade.

yeah man... unfortunate about power restrictions, when I got my licence in New Zealand, I was just restricted to 250cc's, so I bought myself a '90 CBR250RR. Awesome bike, still loving it, even tho the time for a bike approaches
@mstngs351
@mstngs351 14 лет назад
Parts from manufactures launching newer products are almost always more costly if they are in anyway comparable in build quality. I have not priced parts for the Hyo but have absolutely no doubt that parts do cost more. Another thing to consider is it makes since for dealers keep certain parts in stock for high volume/common bikes. So if you do end up needing a part replaced you may end up waiting longer with the Hyo just because of waiting on a part order. Small thing but still...
@gavinksmith
@gavinksmith 13 лет назад
In New Zealand we are allowed to ride any 250 on a 'learners licence' which gained by doing 10mph round some cones in a car park and a theory test. Now I ride a 1992 Honda CBR 250 which is 45 BHP stock.
@burnoutra43
@burnoutra43 15 лет назад
The comments on the build quality of the Hyosung are accurate- to a point. Fact is, you've got about a 50/50 chance of getting a bike with poor build quality. Not all of them are that way, and if you do come across one, the dealer should be willing to deal with you on price if you point out the flaws, which may or may not make it worthwhile. Also, for someone my size, the Ninja 250 is just too small to be comfortable. (I'm 6'1" tall and 200lbs.) The Hyosung fits me the same as my VF1000R.

250's hold their value extremely well because they are beginner bikes and stay in high demand. A good majority of people that are in the used market place are beginners. If Kawasaki doesnt change the 250's style anytime soon (which they wont), a 2008 ninja 250 will be sold for a few hundred dollars less then msrp late in 2010. Of course mileage and condition is going to be a factor in price.

@FireNinjaBlade its pretty easy if you already have your class c license but It depends on what state you’re in. the smart thing to do is take the msf course first. In Cali its about $150. After that it’s just about going to the dmv and paying their $26 fee and taking the written test.

erric288- A very long time. There are many Ninja 250s making it to nearly 100,000 miles on the original engine. This is with proper care and good drivers. Often people neglect or abuse them or don't ride them properly. Maybe they don't know what should be looked after. So they fail prematurely. However, even with bad care (say, just changing the oil on occasion and nothing else), they should still last a good amount of time. Certainly much longer than the Hyosung.

Ninjas have been around longer. They have a good rep. They are reliable and dependable. I personally am in favor of the ninja. I would recommend it only because I know it has a pretty good rep especially the 250. The Hyosung is not as reputable and have to build their fan club. Everyone has to start from the bottom and compete with those at the top. Who knows they might come out at the top someday. For now I will stick with my ninja.

Ill sum it up for you guys looking for a first bike KAWASAKI- Well known brand quality built good look, but bad handling back wheel feels like wood and looks and feels small. HYOSUNG- Bad things are the quality of parts bike feels cheap to ride, good points are handles very well for 250cc bigger back wheel and its a full size bike so it feels big when your on it(apart from bad quality parts its a good bike you can always get extended warranty and not worry about it breaking down)

So now that that's settled, i am fucking thrilled that someone reviewed these bikes in comparison. I currently have less than 100 miles on my 250r but i always wondered about the hyosung. I probably would have bought the hyosung if the 250r ninja did not redesigned. Japanese mass production and standards are just better than most... in most industries. There is a reason that our 'super power economy' is a bit rough yet our stocks of Japanese Corps. are doing quite well. ::shrugs::

Due to norwegian laws i have to ride a 125cc 15hp bike for two years:( Not that i've ridden illegal or something, just like that for everyone. The brigth side is that you only need to be 16 years old. After that you can move on to 600cc and 34hp. Once you get 20, you can take license for any bike. (You have to have license for the two previous classes aswell.)

Clearly the Ninja is a better made bike. There's a reason it's the most sold bike in the world. HOWEVER these bikes are 250cc. No point in forking out money on a first bike when you are likely to crash it or other damages. Do yourselves a favour and save your cash for your second bike! Purchased a hyosung GT250r 2012 model, with a 650r body kit. Yeah it does rust here and there, overall is an amazing bike to ride, plenty of power , always can blend in with the bigger bikes cause of the wide rear tyres and overall body compared to a Ninja 250r in general tbh! @WickedCuba Yeah, I'm in Toronto and my 2008 Hyo GT250R was $2800 used last summer (quick sale). Seems like it's a little harder to resell because they're less well known, but riders seem to have little trouble reselling the Hyosung for almost what they paid.

Its true that youre going to get tired of a 250 fast, but its not a good idea for beginners to get a bike that has more power then they know what to do with. Ive seen allot of bikes go down because people dont want to look like beginners and try to ride beyond their limits. If you believe that you can handle a cbr then that is your decision but I strongly suggest that you start with a 250. Besides, 250's have great resell values.

Hyosungs are pretty nice, the 2010 models look sick. Especially the white/black. The parts/service shouldn't be more expensive as long as you're near a decent dealer. Both 250cc bikes perform almost identical. The main differences in my opinion is that the GT250R is 600-bike size and riding position, more track-focused. The Ninja is more upright. 08' update was good for the Ninja but the Hyosung still wins in looks. Oh, also the gauge is nicer on the Hyosung.

I gotta defend the hyosung here... I cant speak to hyosung's quality in this video, but the hyosung of new, mine being a 2016 gt250r, is on par with the japanese name brands now. There is nothing particularly cheap about the bike either. I'd absolutely recomend a hyosung to anyone looking for a larger bodied 250cc sport bike. For me, it tiks all the right boxes.

Suzuki RGV 250cc Top speed 205km/h All this 3 250cc bikes, are 2stroke and lot of more hp compare to those 4stroke`s.. When you want a bike with small engien, it has to be a 2stroke. Faster acceleration, higher top speed and more fun for wheele`s :) The sad thing, they don`t produce this bikes anymore. They was produced from early 90`s to early 2000 so have to look for used once. Kawasaki revamped their 250 as a response to Hyosung taking a large share of their sales with a better looking, cheaper bike. If Hyosung hadn't taken such market share, would Kawasaki even have bothered restyling their 250? My guess is we just would have had a different colour paint on the same old ZZR/GPX series. Kawasaki is manufacturing the 250 Ninja in THAILAND to compete on price. Thai labour costs less than Korean, so they are probably well set up for a price war. Buyers win both ways.

However there are upsides and downsides the kawa. ridding position is much more comfortable (more like touring bike look) the hyo is more of sporter feel. it does get uncomfortable able a really long ride tho,,, tires on both bikes are bad allgud in the sun but really have to watch it on wet ... aftermarket mufler on hyosung just sounds awesum and gives more smoother throttle response . looks wise hyo does beat the kawi .. go to a showroom and find out for your self...

The place at the start of the video, i had a mcdonalds there earlier today, i live 10 minutes away. I love the Ninja by the way, nice bike. But i have to say, he makes out the Hyosung is a piece of cheaply built junk, which it isn't. Hyosung bikes are amamzing for the money, and from now, they're a company that are really stepping up and showing what they've got.

And much better than both of them is the WR250x he mentions at the start of the vid .

Jeez, these new rules suck! I'm glad there was nothing like them when I grew up and started riding bikes. We could buy 1100's or whatever with as many bhp as we wanted right from the start. My very first bike was an un-restricted GSX-R 750. They were all un-restricted back then. Well, in Norway they were anyway. I think they had started restricting power in some other countries, like Germany. Cheers, and ride on! : )

im really confused of which one to get of these 2 for my first bike, i would go for the kawa for the reason that it will have a good re-sale price when i decide to move onto another bike

No, I don't think that's reasonable enough for that much. Check the prices of other bikes they have and see if their right up is similar to the right up on the 250. If it is then they might be trying to over charge for the transport cost. If the 250's is higher then they are not worth buying from.

I have a Hyosung GT 250R for a year and its perfect. Made 8000km on it and not a single problem. It looks a lot better then the kawi 250 and on the street with the Hyosung everybody will think it is 600cc bike or a litter(that happend to me quite a lot). top speed is 165km/h and for a begginer its enought. On the kawasaki the everybody will know that you are riding a 250cc bike whare with hyosung they will think it is much stronger.

Haha! And right now I would KILL for 45 and raining! Lately it's been snow, ice, and in the single digits or teens (Fahrenheit, that is). I can't wait for spring.

Yeah the new ninja 250s look awesome, allot better than the old 80s looing ones. Shame they have lopped quite a few hp off the old engine! Man it would be such a ripper 250 with the old GPX engine in it.

To that 1st question I say "no" but to that second question I say "yes". Also, the problem is not that it keeps you safe, but that you don't have the right to be unsafe. What if they started outlawing skydiving, or motorcycling all together? It's when the state takes on a "Government knows best" policy that things get ugly.
