There's one 600N in my area, used exclusively for power transmission line surveys. It's fitted out with cameras and sensors to detect corona discharge and other electrical faults. It is a very distinctive machine and everybody knows what it is doing wherever it goes. It's a joy to watch.
Also most 600’s are left seat PIC, in 7000+ hours of helicopter time I have yet to see the dreaded 3rd seat in a 500. I think a tour company in Hawaii might have been doing that but is nowhere near the “norm”
I can say one thing about this particular model; while it is not on the pre-flight check. Where the cyclic goes into the deck, the control surface needs to be checked for cracks. We lost a 600N for this reason in flight and good thing it was near the ground when it rolled over and crashed.
This project NOTAR did be started in HUGHES Helicopters in decade 60, and when HUGHES Sold for MD the projects comming jointly and than started in LINE production
Appreciate the review but your opinion of it flying like a pig without SAS is an unfair statement. Flew close to 2000 hours in a pre SAS 600 another 400-500 with and it was just fine. If flown a 1/2 ball out of trim it is rock solid all day long. Also as far as the auto rotation goes, yes it drops pretty quick but viewers should know your dealing with a FADEC system. when the throttle is closed, the fuel is completely rolled off all the way and immediately. Most aircraft including the 500 have governors that roll the fuel off more slowly. The MD600N is a fine aircraft, not a perfect aircraft nor is any. Most people that complain about certain characteristics of the aircraft are low time 600 pilots. This airframe takes a little time to understand its personality. having flown it in many different roles from sling loads, mountain operations and other utility operations I can say it’s all together a good bird.

I have flown pretty much every brand and size from heavy lift to MD500’s and I gotta say the 600N can be a lot of fun if you know how to treat her right 👍
Nice helicopter yes there are better but I've always liked the 500/600 models for looks. The old OH 6 was a damn good aircraft. That of course was way before MD owned them.
yeah I agree the two biggest things are the stability and range that the 600 can't touch, not had a play in ether but I know the 135 can be a bit rough on passengers with it's rigid rotor head
@@sladehelicoptersgaming3148 The 145 is being fitted with a 5 rotor head now to aid smoother ride and increase power and payload. Is the 119 your favourite helicopter or is there one you really fancy trying?
