In my opinion, all e-ink devices should focus primarily on creating excellent PDF annotating software when it comes to note taking aspect of the device. No need for different note taking apps/software. This way, notes created on one device can be easily edited on a different device.
+1 !!! Thats so annoying that pdf annotation lack of all features they have in proprietary note taking app they made. PDF should indeed must to be primary focus. And second better to negotiate all of them to use same open format for notes which will give option for users to utilise different brands in workflow and community enthusiast to make some apps for integrating with third party stuff :)
100% agree. It’s a writing device. PDFs are very common. I like the digest feature. I have a remarkable and really wish they had something like that. Hyperlinking should also come built in. I have a lot of key terms and wish I can hyperlink them to a key terms page in case I needed to remember what it means.
I am eagerly waiting for the A5X2. I make lot of notes for my studies and its difficult to arrange them all. Will supernote serve my purpose of heavy writing? And how long ill have to wait for the a5x2?
I currently use the HoM2 pen for my Supernote and I really like it. However I'd like to try a pen with a little more functionality like buttons, tilt options, endcap rubber etc...whatever. Is there one you guys can recommend for a Supernote ? Some people say the Kindle pen is actually one of the bests but I don't know how it works on a Supernote.
For someone mainly looking for reading and annotating academic letter-sized PDFs (ideally with some reference manager integration) and taking meeting notes (with some ability to sync to to cloud services), would you recommend the boox note air 3 or waiting for the super note a5x2?
I just heard that many cargo ships are now avoiding Suez and travelling around the Cape, thats gotta add a few weeks to the delivery time, at least until they build up a stock pile nearer home.
Great discussion here. I hope Supernote doesn't undermine the feel of the HOM with the FW2 film. I love the feeling of the HOM and HOM2 with the first generation, feels much more like a premium gel pen on a bed of paper. It will be great to hear your thoughts after you have had some time for the comparison.
Got the Nomad last week and love it completely. The only thing I was not instantly falling in love was the feel write 2. It was so different to the first gen that I had to play a bit with it. I played with the HOM, some random Boox pen and the Lamy that I didn't used much before. I realized that especially the Lamy with it's original nibs works really well with the new feel write. But also with the HOM pen I got used to the new writing feel. The more I write the better I like it. So I think the Nomad will replace my trusty A5X as daily driver next year.
How is the new size sitting with you, compared to the A5? I’m a bit on the fence and wondering whether A6 would be a tad small. Currently have a RM2, and use it for both work and recreational. For work, I have the occasional PDF readings. Any insights on size would be appreciated.
@@philippeabed5917 I got the Nomad as additional to my A5X and was aware of the smaller size. I wanted for longer a smaller format for my daily routine when I am on the go on the campus and giving lectures. But the A5X will stay on my desk for longer note taking and reading academic stuff because there this format is better. The smaller Nomad is fine for taking short stuff on the go (especially having it in landscape) and having all my stuff always with me. So when you thinking about replacing a RM2 wait for the A5X2. I think you will love this thing. I never regret the change from RM to Supernote.
I have a A6X and just ordered a Nomad to have the different sizes. Someone posted on Reddit that they got the Beta software on their A6X and it fixed the syncing issues with the Nomad.
An absolutely necessary function for me is the ability to view a synced document on the PC in near real time while working on the same document on my e-reader. This way, I can view material on previous pages of the document I am working on. This is especially useful for engineers like me to reference previous equations, index numbers etc while working on the current page. This can be done with Onyx by using the Boox app on the PC although sadly, multiple windows of the app cannot be opened to open more than one page on the PC (as can be done with Onenote). It would be very helpful if this functionality can be compared across different models/manufacturers.
Thank you Voya for the great writing feel comparison, it was very helpful. I have just ordered a Note Air 3C and am looking forward to trying it out. I wish Boox would put a little more effort into the details like you said. I think the guys at Ratta do a better job in that regard, although I have never tried one of their devices yet.

I have a follow up - in my original question, I said "Autosync" and was referring to the android app "autosync" from metactrl that is in your boox set up videos for syncing across devices. I know those are now outdated. Since Boox has added more capability to their syncing since about version 3.3, do you still recommend using the android app "Autosync" or do you only use the Boox syncing? From your answer here it looks like you just use the Boox sync now, is that correct?
Thanks for the clarification. Actually, I personally still use the Auto-sync app, despite it having limitations and not being able to synchronize PDF annotations etc, like the Boox server can. I don't have a real reason other than habit, I suppose, and a personal preference.
You mentioned the planner/meetings templates in your shop. Is this a document that can sync updates between devices - e.g. keep calendar up to date between devices at home and at the office? At the end of the year, can the file be exported and remain readable (with intact hyperlinks) on a Mac or PC?
I advise that you watch the videos in the MDO playlist, the link to which you can find in the video description. MDO is a PDF file, so the synchronization between different devices will depend on the device being used, on Supernote and Boox devices, yes, you can, on the Remarkable you can't because it allows only 1 device per account. Yes, you can export it periodically as your local redundancy backups and at the end of the year for filing and storage or even printing.
I've bound my Dropbox with my Boox to access the PDFs I have stored. However, I'm unable to sort my Dropbox folders alphabetically on my Boox device, which makes navigating through my files challenging. Is there a solution to this, or have I overlooked something?
Supernote selling now the FeelWrite 2 Film (same for A6X2) but for A5X. So just from curiosity, will be able to apply one on Onyx Boox and use HOM on it ;)
I’m with Voija about Boox’ half-axxed implementation. Beautiful build, but too many fails in the UI, especially for a left-hander like me. Case magnets are asymmetrical on the Air3 C, so I couldn’t use the stand with the device inverted (grip on right). Lousy palm rejection and on-screen keyboard made editing frustrating, despite the excellent speech-to text conversion. Page-turning too awkward and unreliable in the Kindle app. Colour not as pleasing as I had expected. Browser experience best in Firefox, but still not Windows or Apple-level performance. Probably going to wait for the Nomad A5X release, but may just go back to the Scribe for my e-reading and eyestrain reduction needs.
Are you finding any calibration issues? Just received my AX6X2 and the top rleft hand corner I am seeing a deviation between the nib of the pen and ink on the screen. A small deviation, but once you see/notice it you cannot unsee it!! I have re-done the calibration a number of times.
Will we ever see device from Boox that is waterproof (IPX8) like Kindle Oasis? I bet many people would like to see some rugged cases for those tablets; cases that could withstand drops from 1-2 meters.
Heyy Voija, thanks for ghe great reviews and videos. I want to seitch to digital notetaking and because of you e ink seems more and more feasible. One thing that is holding me back though is that as far as i know non of the platforms offer infinite canvas features. In remarkable you have the infinite list i think but for my notetaking and thought processing something in the apple freeform direction would be great. So now my question: do you think any of the platforms is likely to implement that, and if yes which most likely (i mean in the native note takkng apps)? It would also make the a5 formfactor way more usable, but i am not sure if the level of zooming is really possible on eink. But of course with bsr the possibilities have increased vastly so maybe my wish will come true.. Thanks again for all your great content and greetings from estonia!!
When exit pdf it saves to in cloud. If you go in the cloud folder on boox device and from there open the pdf it open the last in cloud. It doesnt open last in cloud from bookshelf and last files in library. So it works (dual sync) but not in same way from places you can open same pdf in boox device 🙈
could you please share what the tablet stand in your thumbnail is? Love the look of it but can't find it anywhere. Figured I'd ask before I just print one.
I have a question for your next q and a: I’m using a note air 1 and have a nice case for it. It’s handmade and leather. Is the note air 3 c or 3 the same size as the original note air? It’d be nice to keep this case when I get a new device.
One other thing I did not like about the Kindle app on SuperNote is that the yellow highlights are extremely hard to see whereas on Boox they aren't. At least, this was the case when I had a SuperNote about a year ago.
Received my Nomad and am still getting used to it. Lots of software features that I will likely not use. One feature that ought to be there is the ability to email a pdf of the note or its pages in one step. RATTA replied that they are working on that. More important, letters have been disappearing and then reappearing as I write, a very annoying glitch. Again, RATTA replied that they are aware and that this will be corrected in an update. While RATTA is responsive and a good company to deal with, a bug like this going to the heart of what a note taker is there for should not be there on the release of the product.
You should keep in mind that this is a brand new device and a brand new OS. As such, it will always have issues for the first couple of months. I haven't seen a single platform that doesn't. That being said, the absolute correct way is to let them know about the issues, and see how quickly will those be addressed. In the meantime, just swipe up on the right slide to do a screen refresh when that happens, and you'll see your missing content appear.
@@MyDeepGuide Thanks for the reply. I have let them know and they said it would be addressed in an update. However, I disagree that this is a new device. Taking notes is a basic function of the device.I have seen others online complaining of the same problem. Such basic problems should be caught before it goes out the door. Happy New Year.
Thanks for your interesting and so informative videos! So according to this one it is no problem to use pens with changeable nibs on the Supernote as well? Or asked the other way round one does not have to use Supernote pens exclusively on the Supernote devices? Did I understand this correct?
Yes, you can use other pens on the Supernote. SN uses the Wacom EMR e-ink technology, so any EMR pen will work. I have 5-6 various pens which all work. The different nibs may provide different experiences on the Supernote screen film, some leave a better feel than others.
The best comparison I have for how the Note Air 3C feels is a dry-erase board (but with some surface scratchiness). Hence. I sent the device back. Perhaps it's fine for note-taking. Maybe (my initial impression, right out of the gate, was very negative). But I'm a writer. I commonly write for hours in one sitting for many pages, and so, the Note Air 3C was a failure for me. Probably good enough for note takers though. Again, maybe. I have not written on the Supernotes yet. I will make that attempt in the spring.
