This is a video of me talking to the one and only James Hetfield from Metallica!
I have always been very curious of James' songwriting process and I'm very happy he took the time to answer my question.
And haha, I'm sorry for being quite nervous, it was pretty hard to form sentences with mr. Hetfield standing right in front of me!
I had won a Meet and Greet with the whole band on the 15th of August 2008 just before their performance at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium.
It was one of the coolest things ever!

bukofezra Yeah now he is but back in the early 80s my dad met them only one time and this was back when they came to Rochester to record Kill Em All and my dad said that James, Lars, Kirk and Cliff all of them were just a bunch of dickheads and dirt bag motherfuckers.

I love this, she's so happy to see him but doesn't seem intimidated really. It felt like a conversation between 2 honest people with artistic souls. You can tell James was happy to talk with her. I hope she keeps pursuing her art

I love how he has blossomed into what a rock god should be. As many times as he has been asked those questions, he still comes with a real, no hype, helpful answer. Gotta give credit where credit is do. James is a boss!!!

it wasn't me but my cousin Joe met both Lars & James in a real cool setting,& before they were super huge,like around the time of ride the lightning maybe a little prior to Cliff's death,because the way he explained it is that they were in our area because of knowing members of metal church who were born around here & went to school, so around when both toured Europe, but a friend called asked if he wants to come out & party & didn't even mention it,but when he gets there 2 members of metal church are there & Lars & James r both there drinking beer & what not,everyone is just kickin' it partyin' & nobody bothers 'em about being "rock stars" or anything...pretty cool deal...better story than the ones of people knowing Kurt Cobain growing up & seeing him or him & Courtney Love after they're big,what a loser from jumpstreet I'm told,the only decent guy among them was the big tall bass player.My uncle said he was just that, as he & his brother drank red port with them when Kurt was like 15,& he was already staying fucked up on anything he could put hands on,wine, speed,pot,oven cleaner,quaaludes... anything,any time of day...& I hear same from others that grew up around him

Though I've never met him, I've seen different videos of fans meeting Metallica, and James always seems like a friend the first time you talk to him. He's a legend.

Very kewl! I got to meet James, Lars and Jason in 1992 (Kirk had left early unfortunately) and they were really kewl just like in this video. We waited outside the arena by the backstage gate for 3 hours after the show, part of that time was spent in the rain lol, and even though they played a 3 hour blistering set (was the Black Album "An Evening With Metallica" tour) and it was 2am and they were probably exhausted and they didn't have to come meet us (they could've just gotten into their limo and driven passed us) they still came out to the gate and hung out for about 30 minutes to sign autographs, talk to fans, pose for pictures, just all around awesome, down to Earth guys! Thanx for sharing this.

A meet and greet with your favorite band is always a very special thing, it's an experience for life and this one was very touching and the vibe feels really great !!! I still remember mine like it had happened yesterday. The Metallica effect is something really special and that goes for life !!! Congrats !!!

James is such a genuine person.a pretty good role model,now days i would say.i think thats why metallica gets so much negative feed back now ,because they are actually great down to earth individuals and not "angry"anymore.really excited for you, that you got to meet them.

Heck yeah that’s exactly how I’ve always wrote songs. Just play, goof around and stuff comes out. Glad you got to meet him. When I first started learning I practice as much as I could off “and justice for all”. James taught me how to palm mute!

I can't remember the first time I saw this video years ago & I was like WOW ! Wish I was you . Now that I'm watching this I met my hero too & gained a lot more than I ever expected . . It was totally a dream come true . James is absolutely a humble down to earth guy . Truly a legend . I hope every 'Tallica fan get the chance to meet him once . BEST day of my life .

Ever since James got clean and sober, he got to be a really nice and cool guy! He used to be an asshole, or so I've heard. I've got respect for him, getting clean and sober isn't easy, I've gone through it as well.

Very cool that he gave you such attention while others were in line as well. It just shows how much he loves the fans and gives them back just the bit of conversation that could make someones dreams come true. I myself would love the chance to meet these guys. Cizzie kept her cool very well cause I know I would have completely lost track of anything I wanted to ask him. Thanks for sharing this video.

I live in James' back yard. No, really. I do (sorta). His back yard is huge. Hundreds of acres in a Nor-Cal town that I won't mention. I live on the other side of the hill. We had to make a new 2-mile trail to hike/ride/run on that bypasses his property because he now owns the old trail. George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch is essentially across the street from James.

Hetfield is such a nice person, very chatty and polite, a bit like Kirk.You're lucky to have been able to talk to him anyway, i hope you enjoyed it. What also impresses me is that you're not stuttering at all in front of him when you're speaking. i'd be like "I'm sorry, I love you guys but I can't talk to you cause what I'm gonna say will be shit" and bow to him afterwards :D You asked good questions as well!

WOW! That's all I can say. I just watched your video of you playing Blackened just before this vid - I was blown away when it kicked in and you just start shredding and kicking ass. Also, it was great to see that James took the time and was humble in answering your questions. Props to you!! :) I've never met Metallica and have always wanted to. They are the biggest influence on my playing and performing.

Good. The nervousness is OK, it also happened to me when they came to Colombia. I also won a Meet and Greet pass and I can confirm what a gentleman Mr. Hetfield is. I talked with him a lot, he listened to me carefully and he also took his time to answer what I asked him. Congratulations and BTW your Blackened cover is excelent!!! A hug from Colombia.
