Hey rabbits!
I think we all agree that German is a beautiful language. But it differs from region to region. Have you ever wondered how Bavarian sounds like? Or Saxon or Alemannic? Well, let's figure it out together in this video of me trying to speak in 12 different German dialects! Enjoy!

@@hetaluna9844 Standard Italian is known by everyone in Italy, however if you know only Italian like I do and people in Northern Italy start talking you in their language you wouldn't understand much. Same for Sicily and Southern Italy, however Sardinian is the language other Italian understand the least if we exclude Non-Romance minorities. Standard Italian is helpful in Central Italy however, especially Tuscany (Standard Italian is based in literary Tuscan), and also in northern Sardinia where they speak Corsican dialects instead, Corsican is closer to Tuscan and Italian than any other regional language of Italy.

There are many valley's in Tyrol which are only 2h away by car, but I literally do not understand when they speak their dialects. And the closer you get to switzerland and the higher the mountains, the worse it gets. Mind you - Austria is smaller than most US states. So in the mountains it's basically like if people from NYC would have severe problems understanding people from Philadelphia.

I happen to also speak German (lived in her neck of the woods - Wolfsburg - as a kid, then 4 years in Austria), and have been exposed to so many German dialects. I literally cannot describe how impossible it is for her to replicate / shred all these dialects. After watching this video twice, I'm still completely incredulous - what an AMAZINGLY talented women. As a German learner living in Germany, this is my greatest nightmare. I find a vast majority of Germans are perfectly happy to speak Hochdeutsch with me but I have come across a couple of Berliners who refuse to speak anything but Berliner with me then get upset when I don't have the first clue what they just said.

Yeah, they can be kind of stubborn but it is also hard to hide your own dialect. I also spoke standard German up until quarantine because I spent more time with my family. (My dad is from Berlin) so yeah Good bye my dear pure dialect free German :/ Once you start speaking with that dialect there is pretty much no going back.

As a German born and grew up near Hannover, where they speak Hochdeutsch, I am almost unable to understand a person near Koblenz where the speak a special regional dialect. I also have serious trouble to understand bavarian or swabian if they don't speak standard German. The same happens when I travel to austria or switzerland. Even though my English is something between B and C Level still with trouble in grammar and vocabulary, for me it's easier to understand some English dialects. But when it comes to cockney Englich for example, I'm out as well ^^

As Dutchman I heard many understandable words, but I also learned German through hearing TV, as my dad loved "Krimis" and German TV was often his choice. On top of that, my parents were from Groningen, in the North-East of the country, and their dialect is quite similar to Ost Fries. Then I'm married to an American lady who spoilt my school English, which was closer to the queens English... ;-) In the Krimis, I also often heard Platt Deutsch words... All in all, German is just like a dialect for me, as is Gronings!

Hab ich gesagt, dass ich es kann? Nein. Aber ich weiß, dass es falsch ist. Zumindest kenn ich keinen bayerischen Dialekt der so geht.... Bist wahrscheinlich irgendso ein Möchtegern-Bayer... Außerdem schreibt man keinen Dialekt.

Add Swiss and southern Austria into the mix with a few beers and a glass of wine, just for a good time.

Köstlich! Herzerfrischend dargestellt. Am besten gefällt mir in dem Fall das Sächsische; klingt irgendwie süß. Cool gemacht.

Plattdeutsch ist tatsächlich kein Dialekt, sondern eine eigenständige Sprache, zumindest in Bezug auf das Hochdeutsche.
@strawtato_291
@strawtato_291 8 лет назад
Nein, das ist ein weit verbreiteter Irrtum. Plattdeutsch ist wirklich keine Sprache. Friesisch hingegen schon.

My comment was intended to be ironic and make fun of the stereotype--AKA trope--German authoritarian or the British evil genius. Technically, it wouldn't be racist to use a trope such as I did. This was tongue in cheek. And one's nationality is not a race. I was playing off Seekarr's comment.
