"Me - Stories of My Life" AUDIOBOOK - Narrated by Miss Katharine Hepburn, herself, this biography is a wonderfully entertaining and charming look into the life of a Hollywood legend. Gut-honest, self-effacing and to the point, Katharine tells us the fascinating stories of her well-lived life.
Not all in order and in some areas she is quite frankly scattered and all over the map. However, her story-telling manner is so casual, one may feel as though they are seated across a table from her, sharing a pot of coffee as she recounts her tales of love, career and tragedy. It's almost as if you witnessing her moments of self realization, watching her come to terms with her life, and perhaps even pondering how she may have done some things differently.
When it comes to writing a memoir that is true to herself and the listeners, Miss Hepburn is truly a breath of fresh air. The last portion of the audio book is a beautifully, poignant reading of a letter she wrote to her beloved Spencer Tracy, after his death. Love her or hate her, there will never be quite another like Katharine Hepburn.

She has always been, to me, one of the most fantastic and beautiful actors, of her era. And hearing her read her own biography confirms it. Even read, in her latter years, her voice still had youthful vitality, and had mental alertness, nothing missing. I suppose she knew her voice, was what many people loved best about her, and chose to read her own book for that reason. And she sure made the right choice. Such a unique lady. One in a million.

My god. I'm only 18 minutes in and already I'm inspired to take responsibility, look myself in the mirror and be the best I can be, no complaining. What a gift to have Kate Hepburn talk about her life, her parents and upbringing... Apart from the interest I have in her career, this wipes every self-help book I've ever read off the table. In this era of selfishness and shallowness and, well, Trumps, this reminds me of the best of America, the positivity that is like grace, the real spirit of independence: independence that isn't blind to inequality, suffering or injustice. It reminds me that there is something called character and that you can call it forth in yourself.

It would have been absurd to have anyone else read her story; without that voice. She was an odd duck, but an absolute original. That was her greatness - along with Garbo, Bette Davis , Carole Lombard, Cary Grant and many others of her era (which was a mighty long one).

I adore her style not to mention she is one of the greatest actors ever. I'm so glad my dad used to encourage me to watch all the 'old' films as a kid, growing up in the 70's her films were often on TV in the UK. As I got older I realised just how unique she was in her heyday. She was a beautiful woman, not your obvious stereotypical type, but a stunner years ahead of her time. It's amazing to be able to listen to her and I've probably listened to this at least 4 times. Thank you so much for uploading this.

I love this book.. BUT To have HER read it aloud Is the best💓 I always admired how she aged gracefully didn't fight it like some of that age (Elizabeth Taylor)etc.. "On Golden Pond" is one of my favorite movies, growing up in NH, I remember when it was being filmed.. If you passed her on the street, you wouldn't have had a clue it was Her..Kind, gracious, and everything you would NOT expect from an actress of her stature.

nice. I believe that Katherine, when challenged by a friend///fellow actor when walking in NYC sometime in the 40s, changed her walk and carriage slightly and was NOT recognized by a single person....walked 2-3 blocks...and then re-altered....did her "movie star walk" and was recognized within half a block....surrounded by autograph seekers. Now THAT is a "hidden power"! lol (may have heard this in her infamous Cavett show interview/s)

She is so beautiful and has aged gracefully and is still beautiful in her old age. She once did an interview with Dick Cavit and he asked about dying. She said she feels it's you just lay down and go to sleep and don't wake up and it's peaceful. She was in her 60's at that time. Well, at age 98 she went to bed and didn't wake up again. She died just like she said! I am old now at age 70 and i have admired her since i was at age 30. She has always inspired me and i truely love her. I know she saw Spence when at last she left this earth and i am happy for her that she saw Spence again - in Heaven.

For sure, I enjoyed that part, about her love for Spencer, and giving such an accurate meaning of the word love. Seems that opposites actually do attract. While Katherine loved everything, Spencer had a little sour pickle juice, in him. It's something how we are attracted more by seeing that person has something different about them. And in many cases, those two find they're very compatible, as Katherine, and Spencer found.

Miss Kate Hepburn was born on May 12, 1907. She is a Taurus, but i think her Mercury (the mind) was in Gemini as she has the thin body and the nervousness of a Gemini. She doesn't act like a Taurus at all or look like one. They are stocky and slow and she is fast and energetic like Gemini. Mercury is always either your birth sign or the sign before or after it. Before hers it was Aries and after Taurus it was Gemini. She does not act like a fire sign Aries. She is total energy like Gemini. Rest in peace Kate - we all love you and always will !

I thought she was 98 when she died, but i just read that she was 96 and her very last words were: "They're all dead." She must have missed all her friends and co stars of many yrs ago. She did not believe in the after life either. She said you just "go to sleep". and that's exactly how she died - peacefully in her sleep.

@@marieb.1810 I don't see much Gemini energy here, Gemini energy is somewhat chaotic and very friendly and outgoing, which Kate wasn't. She was pretty much closed off and managed to create a public persona that only partially uncovered who she was. She was extremely private to the point of "confessing" things that were already known, with that she made people think she was opening up, when in fact, she was not and never really intended to. Her Mercury was in Taurus, in 7th house... But her Venus in Aries in 6th house and exalted Mars in Capricorn did their deed in making her insanely filled with energy. She had the physical energy of Mars. Also, her "I'm afraid of it therefore I'll do it" mantra is very much an Aries' logic. When it comes to her overall aura, she was Scorpio rising, meaning her true character was manifested in a Scorpio way - she was secretive, somewhat asocial and never truly opened up about her private life. Her Taurus Sun conjunct Taurus Moon could also explain her extensive need to be close to her family and home, away from the public eye. If you're looking for Gemini energy in Old Hollywood, I'd recommend you to analyse Marilyn Monroe (Gemini Sun conjunct Gemini Mercury), witty, open about her private life and its chaotic nature, yet extremely intelligent and eloquent. Kate was a typical Taurus (private, stubborn and very much attached to her home and family) with a pinch of Mars energy which gave her the physical ability and energy.

Great to hear the author Kate read her autobiography. Yes, those days of film making are gone and will never return because the nature of our society does not allow for individuals, let alone actors and directors , to become their true unique self. We are xerox copies of what might have been. As for her story, I enjoyed it and saw similarities in her character to the other New Englander, Bette Davis: strong, focused, relatively self-obsessed women. As for her independence: well, as she astutely noted, she had Luddy; and then there were her parents, always supporting her climb to the top and whose fame sometimes facilitated her acting entree; and her siblings, who never tried to bring her down, despite her admitted self promotion. I actually do NOT find that independent. She chose to remain childless. But that's not really independence; she was self serving and children would have hampered that. Her life was one of honesty and dignity. I do believe her extrene self sacrificing love for Spencer Tracy which occurred simultaneously (as they acted together) and later following her acting suceess was tied to seeing her older brother hanging from the rafters and never knowing why. Tracy was the adult version of that tragedy and she would not be blind or absent to his suffering, even though she would never comprehend its source or its destiny. She was not independent, except ultimately financially, BUT she had character, something the modern world does not nurture or understand, and she was a great lady.

Hey Kate, gone, but not forgotten; as you planned. I think i would have been a better person knowing you. But all considered, I'm pretty grand as I am...which MIGHT be your story and advice....on we go....

I wonder who put out this video? I just watched her on Dick Cavet... I saw pictures of her canoeing some 50 years ago. This will be a treat. Too bad she is gone!

Brilliant human being and have always adored her immensely (but I have to wonder if that “No pills” remark was tossing some shade at Judy...)

You could be right about that. Miss Hepburn had zero tolerance for drugs and drama. Poor Judy though, one could hardly blame her since she was a mere child when they started her on "diet pills".

I have the biography that A. Scott Berg wrote about Kate ("Kate Remembered") and have read it several times. One of the more interesting bits in that book mentioned that Kate took Judy in at one point and actually weaned her off everything (She would go on to relapse, sadly.)

bWitched86-- Mr Mayer of MGM asked Kate to spend time with Judy to see if the support could help as Judy held Katie in great Esteem. Sadly it didnt, but she did try.

That ending speaks of death almost as well as Emily Dickinson's poems.
