I’m in the UK every household here will have a “kettle” as we drink a lot of tea (tea bags) and mainly instant coffee. So cute to see lots of the USA bloggers discovering our kettles 😁😁😁

@@green_willowtree legally the system has to be hot enough to not breed nasties but then it must pass through a mixer to bring it down to a "safe" temperature. Its super inefficient and annoying. Plus our kitchen is not super close to the hot water system so it's such a waste to pull through several liters of cold first then loose several liters of hot in the pipes after.

I have a hint I used when my sons lived at home. when I bought large amounts of ground meat. I would cook 5-10 pounds at a time, drain it and freeze it in freezer bags...you take it out and break off as much as you need. It can be warmed in the microwave or stove top. Good for taco or burritos ....chili or meat sauce for spaghetti, soup or casseroles. It saves time cooking and clean up.

for the stuffed peppers my family makes the filling raw, meat, rice, onion, herbs, salt and seasoning we leave the peppers raw also we stuff them and then we put them in a pot with tomato sauce and a splash of water and put it in the oven. It's faster this way and all the flavours are mixing together. Regarding the kettle, I use it to boil water for pasta, soup, vegetables, anything can be made quickly if you boot the weather in the kettle and then begin your process. :)

I've had an electric kettle since my college days in the 80's! When my kids were young, a quick and easy meal would be boiled or fried hot dogs with mac 'n' cheese and raw veggies. Now that we're almost empty nester's, only one child at home a quick meal is chili or rivel soup or pasta alfredo with some sort of meat included and a salad on the side.

Sarah....I recently found this out...if a pepper has 3 bumps on the bottom then it's male and best for cooking. If it has 4 bumps on the end then it's female and best for eating raw. If you have ever thought that your pepper just wasn't as tender or crisp as you would like then likely you were using the wrong one for the wrong thing. Crazy huh?

We throw it all in a pot, heat it up, add some chili powder, garlic salt, etc. Put it in burrito wraps 🌯 with some shredded cheddar cheese that will melt. Then we serve it with sour cream and black olives. Goya yellow rice is great with it too. No meat needed, but ground beef could be added. We always have the ingredients in our pantry!!

@spicybbq33 4 года назад
Sarah, the reason you probably heard not to cook tomatoes in cast iron is because if your pan is not well "seasoned", the acid from the tomatoes reacts with the metal and can cause some of the iron to leach out into the food. The health risk of that is extremely low, but it can cause the food to have a slight metallic taste.

We love curry too. One of our favorite curries is “curried sausages” all I do I’d fry up some bratwurst sausages and once cooled chop into 1 inch pieces. Next I cut up a large onion and garlic and fry up in a big put with some oil, once half softened I add curry powder and cook for a couple of minutes then add flour and stir to combine. Then I add some a couple of cups of stock and the cooked sausage to the pan. Boil and simmer for about 15 minutes, then stir in a bag of frozen peas cook a few more minutes and serve over rice.

There's one more thing you should know: it's a bad idea to cook tomato sauce, or any other super acidic food, in cast iron. Acid reacts with the metal and can cause some of the iron to leach out into your food. While the potential health risk is extremely low, it can make the food taste metallic.

@pamelayoung7744
@pamelayoung7744 4 года назад
Most common drinks in the southern states of America are coffee and iced tea. Normal kitchens have a fancy coffee pot which can be quite expensive with timers, or even espresso makers with milk foaming abilities. Instant coffee is only normally made by old people. At least I only know of older grandma’s who make it. True coffee drinkers would turn their noses up at instant coffee. I myself am not a coffee drinker. I drink hot tea with milk and I use my electric water kettle constantly as does my daughter. To make iced tea, we boil water, put three tea bags ( or one family tea bag) in the plastic pitcher ( 1/2 gallon size which is 8 cups). We pour on the hot water and let it steep for 7 minutes. Remove tea bags. Then add about 1/2 cup of sugar if you are making sweet tea. You can also add mint at this point. Then fill pitcher with cold water and chill in the refrigerator. This is the most popular southern drink. Many people add a slice of lemon when serving it. Then it tastes almost like lemonade. .

There are two go to meals that my mom always made for us on a low income budget. And one my Aunt Janice taught me to makethat is quick and easy and is very similar to one of my mom's meals. Mom's go to Meals: 1.) Ground hamburger beef browned to almost done. Then you take a big pottake cream of mushroom soup and poured in the pot put the ground beef in the pot to finish cooking. (Now we normally drain the fat off of the ground beef. Some of my family don't drain off the fat. So it all depends on your preference.) Then you make mashed potatoesand one thing my family does with the mashed potatoes instead of just using milk we use 90% milk and we put a dash of cream cheese in them to make them a little richer flavor. Then do you place the mashed potatoes on the plate or the cream of mushroom and hamburger meat over top.then if you like banana peppers/peppercinis you can put up some on the top with salt and pepper to taste. Now it is all put the seasonings you prefer on it so it's season to taste. 2.) Grilled chicken to be about 90% done.then get a large pot put multiple cans of cream of mushroom soup in it.then take the chicken that is 90% done put it in the cream of mushroom soup for about 10 to 15 minutes to finish or until chicken is done. Then you boil some rice your preference on the rice.then you played it by taking and putting rice on the plate then put the cream of mushroom soup, chicken, extra mushrooms and put on top of the rice. Then salt and pepper to taste and you're ready to eat. Aunt Janice's go to meal: 1.) Is grill some chicken in a pan to its 90% done. Then take a giant casserole dish poured in the chicken gravy into the casserole dish(now my husband adds a little Tony chachere and a dash seasoning salt. Again it's all to you or seasoning preference) . Then take the 90% done chicken place it in casserole dish. Then put it in the at 325° oven for about 10-15 minutes or until done. (or you can cook it on a saucepan on top of the stove for the same amount of time it just doesn't give the gravy that kind of Browning on the top that adds a little bit of flavoring to it.) Now while the chicken is cooking you then make some rice again it your preference of rice. Then place the rice on the plate put some chicken and gravy on the top. We normally take white bread and put it on the table to soak up the gravy. An you can eat it with white bread, Italian bread, wheat bread, or whatever bread you want (again it's your preference)eat with to soak up the gravy with. No we do I add vegetables with every meal. Now it all depends on what's in the freezer and what each person will eat in vegetables and what is quickest to make. Especially if it is a day that we've got to get stuff done quickly. All honesty these meals only take maximum 30 minutes to make. Now that's only if your hamburger or chicken or frozen! If they are fresh it takes less time. That's why I said 10 to 15 minutes depending on if your chickens Frozen or fresh is always going to take less time. You can also make this for one person or thirty people it's just a matter of how much you cook. You can pretty much add as many cans or as much chicken or hamburger as you want to eat to make for this recipe. An now we used to make it for 5 people and my mom would take three gigantic cans of cream of mushroom soup a bag of Frozen chicken breast and defrost them in a skillet and then when they were majority of the way cooked throw. Them into the cream of mushroom soup and then leave it all in the pot with the lid on it to cook until it was done. My husband has also made it for just me where he takes one can of cream of mushroom soup 2 chicken tenders and just make me a quarter cup of rice. You can also do that with the chicken gravy and the cream of mushroom soup meal. It's just a matter of however many you're making up for you just buy as much as you think will feed your family and go from there. Now you can also do this in the Crock-Pot or pressure cooker if you want. An if you don't have 10 to 15 minutes or you don't have the 30 minutes like if you need this by a specific time and you've got 5 minutes before you have to be back out the door you can pre-make this and reheat it it is still just as good. If any one what to make this and have any questions please feel to ask me. I hope everybody has a wonderful week.please forgive any spelling or grammar mistakes I may have made. I have dyslexia. I highly recommend Vietnamese chicken curry! I’m viet and it was a dish well known in my family growing up because my grandma had 8 kids and chicken curry was fairly cheap to make, it’s mostly carrots, potatoes and any cut of chicken with bone. My grandma would make A HUGE batch that would feed us for days and serve it up with Viet baguettes! It can so be eaten with rice or noodles, the flavor is amazing and it’s not a thick curry, it’s more of a soupy curry but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t compete! You can easily find a good recipe of this online!

Sarah & Solo, keep your kids at home, if you can! Here in Belgium (EU) today the sad news came that a girl that was healthy and only 12 years old died of Covid-19 today. The virologist who came and announced the news was visibly shaken. Meanwhile much older people are recovering fine. I guess it depends on the strand you get infected by. It is such a tough issue. It was thought that children were immune or at least better equipped to deal with this, but I guess not. I guess if it's your time, it's your time, however harsh that sounds. :( The news has probably gone international by now. The only written resources on it I can find are in the Dutch language. BTW, thank you for doing these videos; they are such a welcome distraction to us all here!

Im from New Orleans so our go to quick and easy meals are: Red Beans and Rice w/smoked sausage or Navy Beans and Rice w/ ham - we will use the Blue Runners brand which I believe is local (maybe not) but its Cajun and its the ONLY canned beans that we have ever used that are good. The same brand has a gumbo base and we use that too for a quick and easy 1 pot meal. Making these meals from scratch is easy too but with soaking the beans and letting them soften it can be an all day affair.

An easy go to meal is shredded beef 👌 cut a roast into 8-10 chunks then season with salt, black pepper, onion, a bit of green pepper, and thyme. Cook in crock pot with a scotch bonnet pepper (for spice) for a few hours until it shreds. Perfect on its own or in tacos, sandwiches, etc.

Hello sarah, i steal your recipes all the time so it seems fair to give you a recipe with curry ;) In french this dish was called "rougaille" ( it's a reunion ou maurician way to say curry dish) it's a simple meal made with onion, crushed tomatoes, and curry, you can make this meal with fish, sausage (my favorite), chicken ... for the sausage kind you will need : 1 sausage per person , 4 onions , 2tbp of crushed garlic, 1 big can of crushed tomatoes, 1 tbp of curry, 2 tspn of ginger, 2 tspn of massale, coconut oil and optional 1 tspn of red pepper flakes, cook the sausages in boiling water for 10 min, drain and cut them into 1 inch pieces In a large pot, melt some coconut oil and cook the onion until translucent, add the garlic and stur for 1 min or 2. Add the sausages, stur for 5 min, add the can of tomatoes, the curry, the ginger and the massale ( and the pepper flakes) let's cook covered for 20 min or so, add some liquid if it's needed because you want this dish very juicy. Serve with rice of course I hope you will try and enjoy this meal I made Solo's way to make the rice all the time it's a family favorite here. Hugs from France. Lyly

I'm from a large family also, 13 children. We were farmers and grew and/or raised most of our food. It was a lot of work, but it established a good work ethic in all of us. We also sewed most of the clothes for the girls and shirts for the boys. We didn't have much money but we never went hungry. Butchering animals was the worst for me, but we had 3 large freezers to store our meat, and frozen fruits & vegetables. We also canned a a lot of fruits, vegetables, jams & jelly from the orchard. The large dinner table brought back a lot of memories. I just came across your video, and can't seem to stop watching. I have your videos on while I'm cooking and cleaning. It's taking a lot longer to get things done because I keep stopping to watch and not focus on what I wanted to get done today. Beautiful family.

My go to meal is Greek chicken. You take a whole chicken or leg quarters, and rub butter all over it, sprinkle it with dried parsley and cook with a lemon cut into quarters, in the cavity if whole or just in the baking dish with the quarters. Then add whole garlic cloves half way through cooking into the pan with the chicken. Serve the chicken with the roasted lemon squeezed over the chicken and the garlic becomes soft and spreadable. Cook at 425 F for about 45 min. ( I always check the temp with a thermometer). Its so easy, cost effective, and tasted alot more fun than it sounds.

Well cant speak for every American but most of us prefer coffee over tea. We all have coffee makers for the most part (historically it traces back to boycotting tea during the revolutionary war and its been an American preference pretty much since) As for the hot water bottle I dont own one dont really need one, i just use an electric heating pad. My heating pad is only used for cramping and back pain though not sure why one would need a hot water bottle other tban for those 2 uses..
@chelingtonmoto9264
@chelingtonmoto9264 4 года назад
We live in "the south" so a hot water bottle in winter is unheard of, and we drink iced sweet tea, not hot tea. You just boil water in a sauce pan, add a few family size tea bags to make it super concentrated, then pour it in a gallon pitcher with some sugar while stirring, then fill the rest up with cold water and put in the fridge to serve over ice. For coffee we just boil water in a saucepan and use the french press. :)
