"In Africa" Where? You mean Algeria? Benin? Cameroon? Egypt? Ethiopia? Kenya? Mauritius? Senegal? Zimbabwe? Got to say it - the American movie industry, just like the American school system, is awful at world geography. "I'm from Africa." "Which of the 54 countries there do you mean you are from?" "Oh you know... any of them" "Riiiiiiight."
@@TheCasualObservers Listen dude, it's just a movie. I just commented saying I thought Lindsay Lohan looked cute in pictures. You're looking into this too deeply. And before you go acting all pretentious about knowing world geography, has it ever crossed your mind that maybe they didn't just settle down in one African country? They were research zoologists after all, they could have been trekking all across the continent, not just settling in one country; that's why they didn't name one.
@@TheCasualObservers because that's not necessary? whichever country she was from in Africa wouldn't contribute much to the movie anyways. the movie literally revolves around high school stereotypes, how is geographical info useful here? and like the person above said, her dad is a research zoologist. the family could've been moving here and there.
@@TheCasualObservers stfu bro, you're kinda embarrassing. you want them to give their home address and their place of birth as well??🤣🤣 it's not by force to state the exact place bro, you're doing too much.
@Freak Show No it wouldn't. The joke of that line is clearly pointing out the hypocrisy of that comment and how ridiculous it is to assume someone's culture based on the color of their skin. Cancel culture is not "too much". Holding people accountable for their harm is a good thing.
@Freak Show First off, your example - no. They wouldn't. Secondly, people have the right to feel personally offended by something. You don't have the right to invalidate someone's experience just because you disagree or you can't understand. You clearly lack empathy - and frankly, that's really sad. I feel bad for your mindset. Have a good day.
My religion teacher says he was an extra in this movie and sat in the back of one of the classes, I don't know if it was one of these classes or if he was ever on camera but I'm still trying to see if any of the students look like him lol
@@90s-h7l I know that....but my question is ...Katy is the only new student....so The teacher would know it's not her..... and I don't think the teacher is new
Omfg I love this movie so much! The last scene when she’s eating her meal in the toilet made me emotional because it reminded me of my school days when kids didn’t let me sit with them and I was eating outside cafeteria on the floor
The only Bad thing about this movie is that its hard to believe she lived in Africa for 12 years. Also where exactly did she live cause Africa is a whole continent
@@valendussan i know. But a lot of people also think America is a country or europe. Its easier to say I’m asian australian american or European when i tell people I’m from chechnya the have no idea what I’m talking about😂😂😂
I'm with Cady, everyone for some reasons thinks all homeschoolers don't have a social life and are hippies.... I mean there not wrong in some cases, I've met some very socially challenged homeschoolers but you should'n't put us all in that category. Like if you were or are homeschooled.
There were references to east Africa (which could be Kenya or Tanzania) and Ndebele tribe which could be South Africa or Zimbabwe. I'm assuming her parents moved around the continent a lot hence no specific country and since they were researchers it makes sense.
The part where she eats her lunch in the toilet 😭 I haven't been able to watch that scene in years. Kids bullied me for the way I eat...well, for everything. That left me eating in the toilet, until girls caught me. After that, I was allowed to go home. Wednesday was awesome, not because of pink 🤣 But my nan would visit every week and she'd have an omelette waiting for me 😊❤
yea. the scene where they danced together in the spring fling was so cute tho. in mean girls 2, its a hint they’re married since mr duvall has a wedding ring on his finger
My friend Justin and I watched this together. When she said "Jambo!" I was like "I wonder what that means. I had no idea Justin knew Swahili until tonight, it means hi. It's also his culture so good for him!
It means Hello in African. I know because I used to have staff that works in Aztec he's from Africa I asked him how to say Hello in African he said Jambo
Why teens need to be so mean in american movies? Is it the case in the schools indeed? Everyone has antisocial behaviour. Are they all from troubled families to be so messed up in this young age? That looks patehetic.
@@e.m.rivera8948 if they moved around, then she would have said the last country she came from. Even if she lived in all the 54 countries (which I highly doubt cause she kept on referring to only the savanna) she would have said the country that she just came from
@@delilah7376 no that's how it works. They didn't say name all the places you've traveled to. They said where did she move from. Simple. And she kept on talking about Africa like it's a monolithic place. For example that jambo scene
Nah, Most schools when they introduce a student from somewhere non- North America start with continent and then ask where in _____ they came from and something about that place. It's done that way to encourage conversation by starting with something easy to answer. But in this case the teacher put her foot in her mouth so they got off the subject pretty fast. As to where she's from we could take a guess bu the fact that she greets the black kids in Swahili so that would narrow it down a bit.
lol, they all lived in africa for 12 years and have pale skin and their daughter has an american accent. this whole film cracks me up, it is soooo funny.
*Me who is homeschooled* Anyone who says that can talk to my middle school butt that has a 12th grade reading level, is learning how to debate formally, learning Latin, and is currently preparing to argue a legitimate court case in mock trial? No. Mentally prepared an most middle schoolers? Yes.
The last teacher supposed to talk german, but even as a girl from Switzerland, I didn't understand a word. Why is german in english movies always pronounce so bad?
you have not heard russian yet :) especially for shop names or text in general , they just put random Cyrillic letters and call it a day :) 10 seconds of google would fix that , but no :)
"I had lots of friends in Africa" Wtf line is that. Did the person who wrote this not realise Africa is a continent? Who the hell would describe where they lived on a continent level? "I lived in North America" "Where? Canada? The US? Mexico?" "Yes. There." "O.....k......"
@@e.m.rivera8948 In South Africa we love eating Russians. They are very tasty when you grill them and the skin is Soo crispy but soft in the inside, delicious with chips Mmmh tasty...to any one who hasn't eaten a Russian yet I highly reccomend☺
@Yes, I agree That's the famous line that white people say,"I have black friends." To justify being racist. And the writing was intentional to make a point.

I still think of Lindsay like this. To me, she hasn't changed a day over 2004. I do not see who she is now or the phase from 2008-2013 or so. I only see her pure and innocent like this, my brain cannot even see the later her. I also liked her before she was trendy and liked her when the media hated her. I liked her because she was being bullied and was afflicted and wanted to stand with her as she was deemed a "weirdo" for doing drugs and the DUIs but to me, she was a rebel wild girl and I loved her for her difference. Everyone else was putting her down and judging her. Now, sadly I am kind of not into LiLo because she has become "normal" and just submitting to the whole married and mom culture clout thing how everyone on social media either has kids or dogs and shows off on how "well put together" they are. I also don't agree with her plastic surgery. LiLo is wild at heart and now she is tamed and it bothers me. Everyone is applauding her and it has become a trend. Liking LiLo used to be only for freaks and unpopular people to applaud her. I was one of those freaks and very few saw how sad it was to see her being bullied by literally everyone back in 2008-2013. If you watched Lindsay Lohan movies in high school (rented them from Blockbuster and if people found out) you were deemed an ultimate, juvenile, immature "LOSER" like I was. I stood by her movies and rented them frequently in 2009-2010 as well as had a poster of her on my wall from 2007. It just bothers me how now it is trendy... all that sacrifice being deemed a weirdo and loser and the torture ensuing from being there for LiLo and now she is a damn trend because she did everything she is told to fit in? It hurts. I am NOT going to do what I am told and am going to keep being a rebel and not give into trends. I wonder what would have happened if she just stayed apart from everyone. It is so trendy to get a husband and get married and have children. Everyone buys the lie.
I want to use this for my ESOL class but Tiny Fay's coffee shirt just simply won't fly. Lot's of similarities though for my students moving to the US. They have told me they have felt a lot of what Cady felt in this little scene. Culture shock at it's best. :D
Janis reaching out to Cady first was Really cool and good of her to do. She saw an absolute newcomer with a walking target on her back timidly walk by, and decided to take her in thinking that Cady was otherwise going to get slaughtered by the other kids. Janis also knew though, that as long as They were friends (and friends with Damien too) it wouldn't matter what other people said because Cady wouldn't give a fuck. The three could've lived happily ever after and then the credits roll, but then some d&uchebag sexually harassed Cady in front of the Plastics and Regina decided to step in. People slam Janis for manipulation, but she wasn't, really. If Regina hadn't interacted with Cady there would have been no mission to get with Aaron (this probably would've happened sooner without Plastic interference) OR sabotage Regina (for backstabbing her on Halloween). Hell, Cady even admitted Janis getting bored with the nonstop discussion of Regina and invited her to a Plastic-free art show, and even though knowledge of the art show convinced her parents to leave the house to her that weekend, it was CADY who fucked up by missing the art show and deflecting her role in it, not wanting to admit that she chose to throw a house party for the purpose of getting with Aaron AND deliberately excluding Regina, then responded to letting said party get out of hand by getting so horribly drunk she pissed off Aaron after seeing who she became. Janis probably had a legitimate apology to Cady written out for her stake in the plan (taking Regina down so Cady gets Aaron alongside Janis' Own revenge with one stone), butttttttt Regina Had to make her stupid comment, and Janis decided to say Fuck it and laid it all out. I would've done the same thing.

I seriously don't get this "i didn't make any friends so I sat in the washroom cubicle eating my lunch". No sane person would do that. Then again, might be an American thing.
Instead of giving an unnecessarily rude response I will tell you the song is Rip Her To Shreds by Blondie but I do not know who is covering it for the movie. Imo Blondie's original is better.
*sigh* i miss the times when ppl could joke like in this movie 1. Theres no specific country of Africa mentioned. Considering her parents were doing research, they probably moved around different parts of Africa, hence why Cady was homeschooled instead of enrolling in a local school. So she just says "Africa" bc theres no definite part. 2. How is it so unbelievable that she lived in Africa for 12 yrs? And that she has an American accent? Her parents are American. Ive been living in Guatemala for over 12 yrs and im half Guatemalan by blood, but bc my dad was American, i kept my American accent. 3. THESE ARE JOKES. Stop saying Oh So RaCiSt and have a sense of humor. Honestly if it were a Hispanic race joke i wouldve laughed! 🙄 4. Its Cadys first day, probably a week or two after school started for everyone else. Otherwise the principal wouldnt point her out. Janice and Damien are juniors and its already been a little while, so they know their classmates. Ms. Norbury, on the other hand, has a lot of students and wont remember each and every one of them. 5. This is a 2004 movie. Not a 90s movie. 6. And this explains why movies nowadays are so unfunny and cringe. Go watch Mean Girls 2 instead, the jokes there are more your style.
I agree. And the racist jokes are what they are : jokes! I feel like nowadays, people don’t get that when there are racist jokes in a movie, it’s not the producers and writers that are being racist, it’s the characters. And it’s made on purpose. These characters are very caricatural, and clearly the point was to make them a little stupid and simple-minded. So the producers of the movie were well aware that racism is stupid and wrong. Anyways 🤦🏾♀️ people take things way too seriously now. This movie could never be made today, the entire cast would be canceled.
