Andrew Barth Feldman was 16 when he started as Evan Hansen! And Sophia Anne Caruso was 14-15 when she started on Broadway! It’s amazing how age doesn’t matter for broadway :)
I saw Mean Girls in April and the girl playing Cady got sick off stage in the middle of the performance so they had to pause the show, close the curtain, and turn on the house lights. 10 minutes later her understudy came on and performed the whole show without missing a beat! It still amazes me how talented everyone on broadway is!
spicy tea I can’t remember exactly but I think she just finished singing “it roars” and then they went to a scene with a classroom with Erika backstage and then they stopped it, closed the curtains and said they would be back in like 10 mins and then her understudy did the rest of the show and she was amazing
Honestly cannot understand the people saying Barrett just doesn’t want to be there. She’s said herself she was sick around this time, and the little problems with her performance sound clearly like results of a sickness and not strain or boredom with the show. She’s literally smiling the whole way through. Some people are just looking out for her because they know she suffered damage from Heathers, but others are just being straight up rude and searching for a reason to hate when there isn’t one.
@@tamarrr2955 She has a lot of vocal damage from Heathers, she still has such a great voice! But her voice definitely is working hard, especially after Heathers.
I’m not gonna lie, I was worried about Renee, not because of vocal skill, but because I wondered whether a 19 year old would be believable as the “apex predator” amongst people in their mid twenties, but she really has that “Regina” feel to her. You can tell she’s put a lot of thought into her portrayal of the character.
I can tell that just from this performance! She’s gonna go so far considering she can do so well at such a demanding role this young! I mean she’s already gone far, but even farther!!
This was my thought too. Janis wouldn't be jumping and dancing and smiling. Barrett just seemed in character to me, and I thought her vocals were great, considering she's been having some health issues.
Imagine being as beautiful and talented as.... Every female actress/singer in this musical cast because everybody is amazing and beautiful not just one person
@@emma-lz6rq she knows herself better than y'all do, plus she's so talented that any show would accept her if she decided to move on, but she obviously isn't yet. Give the girl a break
@@georgesbleps897 I know that, barret herself had a rant on her insta story about giving herself a break every once in a while, especially if she thinks she needs one. Which means she obviously didn't feel like she needed one or else she wouldn't have performed
OMGOMG This is the first Danielle performance I've seen and I could totally see her playing Zoe in Dear Evan Hansen and I kinda need that to happen right now
@@lucycrossley2281 I don't think so; there's a moment in the show where Cady asks if either Janis or Damian have a pink shirt and Janis replies "no" and sounds rather grossed out by the idea.
danielle has a black shirt with the pink shorts (like she got the shirt from janis and became a plastic second), janis is in all black (bc janis), and regina has on the pink shirt with the big print (makes her plastic status known). when casts go to these events they tend to dress at least a little in accordance w their role
Ik that Janis wouldn’t wear something fully pink, but let me just quickly remind you what top she wore in “apex predator” (show, not other performances). But still, the mean girls-pink isn’t completely like Janis to wear

I love how Renée and Danielle bring something new to the character not just try to copy Erika and Taylor, I love how Danielle says some of her lines in her songs especially how well she expresses emotion in the song and Renée is amazing too the way she sings her songs are so amazing and still so different from taylors
@Olivia Erickson can i just say heathers involved a lot of belting and high notes. even if she does sound tired that's likely because most of the rest of this cast are new to the show so it's easier for them to be more energetic. She's dancing around and bopping her head, she's okay. Barret is a very strong singer and she's smart, she'll give her voice a rest when she needs to, she had a whole rant about it on instagram.
People are not appreciating that Barrett actually has the hardest songs/hardest role vocally. And she's soooooooooooo good. She literally gets no rest in the whole I'd rather be me song, so high and fast all the damn time, I was exhausted just from listening to it
danielle has the perfect combination of staying true to the songs but also adding her own personality and customizing it to be her own, but in a way that it sounds very natural and not like she is trying to change it
I personally think Barrett sounds really fabulous here. I understand where people are coming from though. she’s not wearing a load of makeup so she’s more natural faced. She was sick this whole week, so that also factors into it. I’m not trying to sound insensitive by saying she shouldn’t take a break. Not at all. But Barrett is incredibly talented. Take all the other things into consideration and pile that on top of performing it outside, where some sound gets distorted, and the fact that she’s been doing this for years. It makes sense that she’s really tired, but she still sounds great! She’s really a performer who puts out her best no matter what❤️
Ok, I have not seen a single comment saying barrett was bored, and yet people are saying “everybody’s saying Barrett is bored, that’s her character.” Seriously, stop
It’s just amazing to see how much Renée has grown into her character. I mean she was already phenomenal and a lot of times belting out those songs on pretty much a daily basis destroys the actor’s!actress’s voice but it just made hers that much stronger
Barrett is a true broadway superstar. I could listen to her sing all day long. A truly glorious talent. I wish her the best for a long and distinguished broadway career.
I don't feel Barrett is tired, given that she's had some health issues recently I think she killed it. She's in character and yeah ok maybe she missed a couple of the higher notes but she still killed it in my opinion. Dead good :)
barrett is usually given very vocally demanding roles. with that being said, having a solid technique comes into play. barrett is EXTREMELY talented. she booked Veronica and now Janis for a reason. that belt is out of this world. but to me, Barrett at times gets lazy with her technique and it shows. if Barrett truly is sick, which makes sense due to the shakiness of her sustained belts, and the nasal quality in her voice, then i applaud her for performing here. singing when you’re sick is literally like asking to die. so. barrett could do better if she kept up with a healthy technique. also, i hope she feels better.
the thing about her “technique being sloppy” is that her character isn’t a prim and proper character. Her character is very just whatever punk rocky! So would you imagine a punk rock singer to have perfect technique? no of course not! AND this is just a mini concert so she might have just been pulling her punches because she has to do this show and these songs 8 times a week on top of this 🥵 just my thoughts tho
I saw Danielle Wade on tour, and I definitely think she captures the role of Cady. She’s no Erika Henningsen, but wow she is amazing!! And she is the sweetest human being ever, I met her at stage door
everyone else in the comments is talking about how young Renne is but like imagine the kids in matilda, annie, school of rock etc. thats when its incredibly impressive
Grace Ersek while those kids are impressive too, they’re also working with other kids and only competing against other children for their roles. i think renee is specifically impressive because 1. she’s beat other seasoned adults for this and is now working alongside professionals who have been in the field for years and years, and 2. this is her broadway debut straight out of high school
barrett is so funny during this lmao i love how she sings “we’re supposed to all be ladies and be nuturing and care. is that really fair? boys get to fight; we have to share!” she sounds so unserious but then again her singing skills are amazing 🙏
when i was supposed to see it in april with all my friends and then corona happened:( and now i listened to the soundtrack and i’m even sadder cuz the music is SO good
