if you have a much bigger ruler it will make a much deeper sound and if you have a much smaller ruler" *inhales a lot of air * I'm so tired of this shit. "it will make a lot higher sound"
Tim, you are one of my ultimate role models in life - you're a rather old fellow who has been through a lot, but then you never lost your sense of wonder, and you're still amazed by all the little things in life... like a ruler attached to a string! The world needs more people like you, and like the people who watch these videos. Special shout-out to the camera person, the unseen hero in every single video!
Gamera God i reckon it's his voice it's kind of soothing I have no other explanation on why I'm binging on this. I have no interest in toys nor hoarding. Good day kind sir.
For those wondering, the curved tailor's ruler is actually called a french curve. They come in many forms, and are used to draw perfect curves, both for artists and tailor patterns.
Guess with this show being from Britain and all, Tim isn't as exposed to the Wrigley company, which has Bubble Tape in almost every supermarket shelf in America.
In light of the recent 50th anniversary of Dr Who, I vote Tim to be the next Doctor! All the mad, bizarre but useful things he could bring on to the show as props etc. I can imagine him pulling out something ingenious from his blazer and using it to defeat the Daleks! Just like 10 had the 3d specs and 11 had the Rubiks cube etc.
Nope, calipers already give you diameter. Pi * D gives you the circumference. His device works the opposite way, automatically converting circumference to diameter (C/pi=D)
I wouldn't normally watch a 12:37 video on measuring tapes and rulers, but its Tim, I love seeing his collections! I used to have some clicking wrist straps like the one in 5:42 and had quite a few of those rulers at 09:14 (but I kept breaking them) and the one of those at 9:42
I love how interesting his videos are and i love the way he talks so calm and relaxed , these videos help me clear my head and calm down my anxiety , he kinda reminds me of Bob Ross the share a way of taking that makes you feel safe and calm, i wish modern RU-vidrs take notice , instead of the loud music and the Extreme bragging.
That diameter tape is a interesting tape that is potentially useful. I mean in a normal cylinder/circle you can just measure that. But for circular shapes that does not have a circular face, and too large for a normal caliber to reach. You could actually get some use out of that ruler. OF course you could just measure it yourself and divide by pi. But if you do a lot of measure that require diameter that does not have a flat point for access, it could be useful. It's neat because unlike the other rules shown, this one actually does have a practical use. Time saving measurement. Although I don't see it being that accurate.
another strange ruler is used in sand casting metals for model creating: it's actually longer since metal will shrink and a model should be slightly bigger than a desired part. Described in D. Gingery Lathe book. yet another interesting one is similar to the Japan one, but the offset scale is placed horizontally and spiral line on cilinder is used for showing the distance. It's a Soviet one img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/6614/49737776.2e/0_8f343_ed5dfb84_XXL.jpg
I remember those slap wrist things as a kid, they stop selling them, or the original versions because kids would slap em so hard, the steel thing would come out of the plastic and slice kids wrists.. who knows if that was actually the case or parents were scared. But I missed those.
I’ve used a diameter tape before while volunteering for the local tree survey. One side has regular inches, while one inch on the other side is equal to π inches on the regular side. Also, the musical ruler is awesome!
