So, what if it is a long bow style, but its not as long as most long bows. It is 57 inches and but shaped like a longbow, they are calling it a stick bow.
My bow store told me i need a 64" string for my 62" satori. When i questioned it they said ahh just twist the string. The string ive got is a fastflight. Im not so sure on these guys anymore.
It would be 4" less than the AMO or bow length for Dacron B-50, but the string length would be only 3" less for D-97 or Fast Flite. REASON: The Dacron B-50 will stretch up to about an inch, the others will not. Tutorials should be made by knowledgable people..
If it is an endless loop string that would work if it is that long from end to end. Depending on the draw weight you need a certain amount of loops (6-8, or 12-16 strands). Then serve the loops with serving thread. Flemish twist strings are more complex than I can explain here.
If you have a recurve order a B-50 string that is 4" shorter than your bow length. 58" bow = 54" string, 60" bow = 56" string, 64" bow = 60" string etc. does that answer your ?
Start with following those string lengths, then tune the brace height of the bow to suit your taste of speed and sound. Twisting the string to be shorter (counter clockwise) or longer (clockwise) bowmakers give a brace height recommendation for each bow.
I am ordering this string "B-50 Dacron REPLACEMENT RECURVE BOWSTRING" from amazon and I have an old INDIAN Red coloured recurve bow. I took the string off and then measured the bow its coming to 60", so should I order a 56" string ? Thanks.
Chad W it is a bow my Dad made in a high school shop class in about 1975. Not sure what the kit was called. Shoots great though, not ultra fast, but it's quiet. It got me started on traditional archery and gave me the bug, I've owned many different bows since.
MyREDTAIL if by LGT that is denoting length that would be correct. That is also assuming you order a string made from B50 material, B50 has more stretch and unless you have a modem bow with reinforced tips you want to use B50.
how to you measure the string? If i am pulling a string off a spool, do i pull off the length that I need? (my bow is 68 inches, so i need 64) Basicllay, I am asking if 64 inches of string pulled off a spool is a 64 inch bowstring once loops are added
No, because it depends how many strands your string is. Like typically bow strings are made with 14-16 strands of bow string material. Which means 14-16 x the length of string you need. Check out Nu Sensei on RU-vid, he has a string making playlist, that I watched and learnt how to make strings myself. I now make and sell custom bow strings
