We'll learn about the amount of pressure that the air around us exerts, and we'll see how to measure pressure using a U tube barometer or a manometer with a vacuum. The units that we get are in mmH2O and mmHg. The amount of pressure changes depending on the altitude above or below sea level.

Hey Tyler!!! I had to pause the video to say that you are a great great teacher, I love your teaching style, you explain the concepts clearly using visual drawings for different scenarios which makes understanding difficult ideas easy. I wish my science and math teachers 30 years ago was half as good as you. All the hard work you put in is so worthwhile, I hope many many young students discover your channel and benefit from it. Thank you Tyler.

Fun fact: if you replaced all air with average ping pong balls and sat at the bottom of it, it would apply 443098.989562 pounds of force (200986 kilos) on every part of your body; enough to crush you in an instant.
@s77-t3n
@s77-t3n 5 лет назад
At 7.56 why you said that if we use the water it would be a larger distance and would be bigger pressure than mercury??! I knew before that the object that has a bigger density has a bigger pressure because we need more force to act on. Plz answer my question⁉️🔴
@AnsarAli-nf6ch
@AnsarAli-nf6ch 3 года назад
Atmospheric pressure does not make us move because our lungs exerts the same pressure which is 100 kPa ( force of 10 cars) causing each force cancel resulting in not movement

+Tyler DeWitt the height should change if we change the diameter of that tube thingy 😗 why doesn't it change?
@charliejonsen2883
@charliejonsen2883 8 лет назад
+sarah ghazi The reason is because the greater the diameter of the tube, the more air will be pressing down on the contents of the tube.

What kind of relationship does gravity share with the atmospheric pressure? Yet, gravity is greater. Or pressure does not exist in space. Therefore, gravity plays its role.

but wouldn't the weight of the mercury itself weigh down against the air pressure? And since water is less dense, isn't that why water would go up more?
