Calculations were made assuming the jump was done in a vacuum (no air resistance)
A few things to note when measuring vertical jump with frame counting:
1. Measurement will be most accurate with a jump that is straight up and down (limited horizontal movement)
2. Higher fps videos allow for more accurate calculations
3. Be consistent in the way you count frames (where you mark start and finish)
Formula:
D = (.5)at^2
We know how long it takes to reach the ground from the peak of the jump (t) From the peak, gravity is the only force acting upon your body (in a vacuum/in the absence of air resistance) Using time and gravity's acceleration we determine the distance from the peak of the jump to the ground would be the same as the distance from the ground to the peak of the jump.
