Meat Loaf - Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad (PCM Stereo) Reaction 

Meat Loaf's songs were written by Jim Steinman, the guy playing piano in the video. Steinman and Meat Loaf were a perfect fit for that grand, sweeping operatic rock sound. He wrote for other artists too: "Total Eclipse of the Heart" for Bonnie Tyler, "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" for Celine Dion, "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" for Air Supply. Still, there was something about the Steinman/Loaf partnership that was like no other. Steinman died a few months before Meat Loaf.

There's not a time that I don't remember Meatloaf. This is one of my favorite songs. The line about crying icicles instead of tears was genius. RIP MEATLOAF

Such a beautiful song. Meatloaf has such a beautiful voice. I know the meaning of the song is always open to interpretation, but this is how I see it. He is explaining to his lady that he cannot fully, emotionally commit to her. Then, we are told that it is because of his broken heart. Long ago he fully committed to a woman, who wasn't able to fully, emotionally respond. In her explanation, she explains that she can fully, emotionally commit, because she had a previous love interest whom she pour her whole self into, but he did not. So, it's a domino of broken hearts who cannot move forward.

Meat Loaf was one of the best selling artist ever so it would be almost impossible for you not to have heard something he sang. This song has always struck a chord deep inside me and been my favorite since the first time I heard it.

I luv his stage-placement next to the piano, like some cheesy lounge singer.......and THEN he delivers the goods. Boom!

Jim Steinman (piano) wrote all of the songs on this album. Unfortunately, we lost both of them within a couple of months of each other.😭😭😇😇 I still have this album on vinyl. "I know you're lookin' for a ruby in a mountain of rocks, but there ain't no coupe deVille hiding at the bottom of a crackerjack box".

Wonderful... I've followed meat loaf since my brother bought me bat out of hell the year it came out, I was 7 at the time... And followed him all my life. I'm 50 now and have been lucky enough to see him 7 times over the years... Sadly no more... And Jim steinman ..the genius writer behind it all sadly also died last year (he also wrote bonnie Tyler's total eclipse of the heart, holding out for a hero and Celine dions it's all coming back to me now)... You really HAVE TO react to For crying out loud.. and objects in the rear view mirror... Also.,another from bat is heaven can wait.... Very meaningful lyrics now he has passed.., you'll see what I mean... The three bat albums... Were the soundtrack to a musical steinman did, called Neverland... Over the years he kept adding to this vision... He had at once intended it as a movie... A futuristic Peter Pan set in a post apocalyptic world in a city made of chrome... As to the meat loaf name... Meat admitted the football nickname story was made up... The real version is that when he was born, he was so red.. his father said (or something close to these words) he looked like the meat without the loaf! And he was called it ever after ... Anyhows... You really have to react to for crying out loud., Very powerful ... Rest in peace meat and Jim... This Englishman will always love you both... Oh and.. if it wasn't for this damn virus., Meat was going back into the studio this month to start recording his come back album... Heartbroke.... Simply heartbroken

I have watched quite a few talk shows that had Meat Loaf preform, and then talk to the host. One of the most asked questioned was why , or how he got the name Meat Loaf. He never gave the same answer twice. One was simply he wanted a name that was so different everyone would remember it. One story was his dad said he was so dumb his hear must be full of nothing but meatloaf. Another was about him doing some pretty stupid things with friends and them calling him Meat Loaf. Another story was the football story. Still another was that he loved meatloaf so much as a kid his parents started calling him Meat Loaf. He had quite a few stories about how he was given the nickname Meatloaf, most of them funny. . So, nobody except Meat Loaf himself ever really knew how, or why he chose that name for himself. Not ever really letting anyone really know why he decided on such an unusual name was something he had fun with. The only thing we know for sure is that Meat Loaf was a completely original,, and unique talent. There is only one Meat Loaf.

The world lost another legend

My take on it is he's had a heart to heart with his partner at the moment and she's throwing him out and he's trying to explain that he can't give his heart to her because he gave it to someone else many years ago and THAT woman told him that she couldn't love him, for the same reason he now can't love his partner. And basically it's 3 people all being quietly destroyed by love for someone else.😢😢❤ And, I might add sung SO beautifully and with such pathos.

The part that blew my mind was, after hearing this song for years, that the first two verses were from the woman's perspective.

I've heard a few versions of why Steinmann wrote the song. Someone told him his songs were dark and depressing. Couldn't he just write a song like "I want you, I need you, I love you" like Elvis sang? So he took it as a challenge, but he said the best he could come up with was "2 out of 3 Ain't Bad" - of course he was being facetious, he wrote several love songs for Meat Loaf (and others, I believe), but they were just more dramatic in tone.

His name was Robert Paulson.

Hi Doc. So...nobody gets this song's meaning. He is singng to the same lady who "kissed him and got out of his bed" and said the same darn words to him...then she came back when things did not go her way...so, he is NOT a jerk...he is basically saying, "You destroyed me, and I will never again open my heart back up to you!

Loving all the Meatloaf reactions! Would def recommend checking out: Dead Ringer for Love and For Crying out Loud. Both brilliant. Also, a curveball but one of my faves is Everything Louder than Everything Else. He also 'covered' All Coming Back to Me as a duet in his later career, and again would recommend checking that out! I was 10 when this was released, so it was never one of my go to breakup songs. I did, however, finally get my youngest son to actually listen to the words right after his first heartbreak. His response? Damn, that's cold. LOL..I think he's going to be okay.
