The problem lies with the car's design. In order to reach the engine, nearly half of the entire car has to be torn down for it. It's very time consuming and they have to take care not to damage any of the panels.

Considering how few places would be willing to do the work in the first place I bet a fair chunk of that $21k is to cover the insurance premiums in case the techs miss some screws or break a part. Not to mention how many techs in a given area are going to even have access to the training material to work on a Veyron. It's not like its part of the usual AllData subscription package.

​@Hybris51129 Not to mention expenses on things that cost that much don't scale linearly. It doesn't work that way. A million dollar car is gonna have a higher ratio for a lot of service per dollar spent on the car than your average "mid" class car due to the significantly higher level of expertise needed to work on them. You don't get good enough to work on cars like that easily.

I'd be more proud to drive a work truck than any overpriced high trim-level truck. Those things are so ridiculously expensive now, and all the options just make them less useful than before. Those trucks are for the guy who wants to appear as though he needs the utility of a truck when really all he wants are the same creature comforts that a luxury car would have, only now he's paying twice the money on gas to be the single occupant of a truck that never gets used to do any actual work. Always remember, there is honor in being a working man.

Some people do believe that when an airbag deploys you immediately loose ability to control the wheel indefinitely, resulting in a followup crashes. Wouldn't surprise me if people disabled them for that specific reason.

It was a heavily modified Gemballa, I would put money on the reason no safety features went off is because this guy or whoever he had work on the car intentionally bypassed them

Well, I googled his name and got multiple articles and videos of this pretty much on the first few results. So, while he might be very litigious (and a massive c*nt -> please sue me if you're reading this), it would appear that there are some limits to what lawyers can achieve, especially when they may have to face internet megacorps. But this not being prosecuted (apparently was DUI as well) is a massive travesty. Any car guy should simply just snub him, whenever they see him. Because he clearly does not deserve to be behind the wheel of any great car. Apparently not the first supercar he crashed, but he seems to very invested in and very passionate about the car scene (going on what google told me).

Main reason for the electric motors is for running in the pit as part of the fuel saving initiative to make motorsport "green and environmentally friendly". The nice side effect is no need for starter or "pushboy"

@@JoriDiculousIn the 24 hours, LMP1 cars are not required by the rules to have hybrid drivetrains. They can have only internal combustion, and still race. The reason they use hybrid systems, is because it solves a ton of problems with going insanely fast for a long time around a track. If the tech sucked, and wasn’t useful anywhere else, we wouldn’t see it anywhere besides racetracks. But more and more Super/Hyper cars are using hybrid systems. There is a reason cars like the mclaren P1, Aston martin Valkyrie, ferrari La Ferrari, and etc use similar hybrid systems. The use of electric motors in that way was a very deliberate and very smart engineering choice. I’m also not a fan of every brand going electric; I mean hell I daily an 03 ram 1500 which guzzles gas like there is no tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean I can’t respect some insane race engineering when I see it.

You also get to reduce the amount of abuse the breaks take when slowing down while simultaneously extending your fuel range

Built shows care, experience, and effort. Bought shows you have money. The only respect I can give to supercars is the new tech in them, Koenisegg's cam-free engines are one of my favorite examples. I've been wanting to mess with solenoids on a non-interference motor ever since I heard of free valve.

As marvels of engineering I do respect and admire them. Koenigsegg is ground breaking for sure. But they don’t tickle me much emotionally. I understand it’s weird, but I think we have become desencitized somehow. Fixing audi tt’s in driveways was more interesting car content. For me anyway. Especially now as EV appliances can be as fast as some supercars of recent times. It’s about character cars and even driving slow cars fast. But I understand that there’s room for everyone.

Exactly. Anyone with enough money can buy into a really fast supercar (with no skills I might add) but it takes a gearhead to take a POS and make it fast. That's far more interesting to me as a gearhead than watching some rich prick write a check.

Vipers and Testarossas ain't tough cars bud. They may look tough but they're not meant to crash and are less likely to protect the occupants.
