Input: yellow screw driven by a electric motor.
Violet frame carrying pink pinions that engage with stationary grey racks and with green racks fixed to green frame.
Green frame carrying orange pinions that engage with violet racks fixed to the violet frame and with blue racks fixed to blue frame.
The yellow screw - violet nut drive makes the violet frame goes up down.
The green frame moves two times faster than the violet frame.
The blue frame moves three times faster than the violet frame.
Front part of the mechanism is cut-off for easy understanding.

Thank you for this. I was looking around on the web for a gear-based (i.e. non cable/pulley) telescoping system. And this is the type of system I was hoping to find.

Hello everyone- this strikes me as a great place to ask this question- I am building an RV solar system- if I use double axis tracking I'll need 40% less panels- cost may end up being a wash but or more expensive implementing my idea. Panels have to be able to lay flat on the roof while the RV is traveling or the wind could very well tear them from the roof- I'm trying to integrate a telescopic poll (hand cranked would be acceptable) or a 12v motor with built in gear box maybe- so that I can use a dual axis solar tracking system which depending on the size of the panels needs to be several feet above the RV roof to allow the bottom of the lowest panel to tilt down without hitting the roof. I'm willing to put a hole in the roof to facilitate the telescopic poles- prefer well built, weather resistant and costly over cheap and flimsy. Prefer aluminum or stainless- dislike powder coated steel and aluminum is great because weight is always a factor in RVs. 4 feet of telescopy (word even?) I think would do the trick- when not extended the poles could come down into the RV so they wouldn't necessarily have to be telescopic but for interior asthetics that mmight be better. Any advice as to where I could find a product like this or who could fabricate a few of them for me? Thanks

Another great video Mr Thang! I have a question: let's consider the bottom of the stationary rack our reference (0 m) the lenght of the grey rack is L. Would it be correct to say that for each frame on the mechanism the maximum height on full extension is increased by approximately 0.5 L? For example, in this video we have 3 moving frames (violet, green and blue) so the maximum height would be L+3*0.5*L=2.5 L
@thang010146
@thang010146 4 года назад
Please say that if the violet frame moves S mm, the blue frame moves 3*S mm.

when its fully extended, is the blue box fixed? it looks like you could push it back with ease because of the gears. Your videos are really helpful by the way!
@thang010146
@thang010146 3 года назад
Yes. The blue box and other movable ones are kept steadily at any positions thanks to the self-locking feature of the yellow screw-nut drive.

Is there a way to optimize the system and get it up as high as possible? Could you kindly show it in a video? Thank you so much. You are my source of inspiration. Greetings from a student of the federal Polytechnic of Zurich (ETHZ).

Is there a possibility for you to explain and show me a mechanism that is as thin and flat as possible, but extends up as far as possible? It would need a mechanism to lock in place once it is raised and a mechanism to move it back into it's fully retracted state. I am searching all of your videos but I just can't seem to find it. Help would be appreciated!

Can you please help me out? I need a similar mechanism (that would start off being small and then extend outwards) however I also need it to work in a cycle, such that first it extends and then it retracts back. Do you know how I can solve this problem? Sorry, this is my first time working with such mechanisms!

Please control input motion (for yellow screw) for example, by using a step motor to get desired output motion.
