Input: yellow screw.
Green slider has the green nut that together with the input screw create the first screw-nut drive.
Pink slider of inner thread and the orange screw create the second screw-nut drive.
Jade slider of inner thread and the beige screw create the third screw-nut drive.
The revolution joint (two blue pins and the circular groove on the green nut) allows the beige screw to rotate together the orange screw and move axially together with the green slider.
The revolution joint (two blue pins and the circular groove on the pink nut) allows the orange screw to rotate together the beige screw and move axially together with the pink slider.
The first, second and third screw-nut drives have leads of L1, L2 and L3 mm of the same hand. If the input screw rotates N revolutions, the pink slider performs a displacement of N*(L1+L2+L3) mm.

This has many applications in robotics ! Many many thanks for sharing your designs to the general population free of charge. This is charity of the highest order.

I like the design it's fantastic, however It would require a lot of grease I guess? otherwise it would wear out quite fast. I wonder what materials the screws are from? a very hard metal, together with some way of ensuring grease stays on for 20,000 cycles of rotations? Also the complexity of the parts is fairly high, and so the price of machine the parts... because they seem difficult to cut?

Pretty ingenious!!! For those who may not realise, the word engineer has nothing to do with engines. It was derived from the French ingenieur which means genius in English, or at least that's what I was taught when I was a young engineering student.

Little hard for me to understand how it can rotate out evenly. Took a while to find out, the revolution is blocked to rotate at the same time, so each step is threading out by the same ratio. And the thread base is separate by each step, so depend on each base, each of the step comes out evenly then. Nice complex!
@luke_fabis
@luke_fabis 2 года назад
This is a hybrid of a screw and cam mechanism. Except for the outermost screw, all the screws have grooves cut through the thread axially and the next screw in series has a follower to slide along that groove. This forces them to turn in unison while allowing axial motion. The mechanism expands because the casings have a similar cam design, but are held stationary radially, creating an axial force due to their female threading. Because each screw has a casing that it's paired with and locked together axially with a retaining ring, the screws are pulled outward by the casings as they are in turn pushed by the screw threads. As long as the thread pitch is the same regardless of the thread diameter, the screws will move evenly.
