We got a first look at MechWarrior 5: Clans, the upcoming narrative-driven MechWarrior 5 campaign that follows Smoke Jaguar clan and can be played in single-player or up to five-player co-op. Previewed by Ryan McCaffrey
MechWarrior2 is one of the most pivotal games ever made. Even the market for these types of games has essentially disappeared, i'm so glad there's still a niche band of players of these games. Armored Core 6 sales can attest.
Might be niche but they have an loyal & active communities. Lot of people still actively playing MW Online & MW 5. Even the modding community also still active after 5 years of MW 5 released. I'm quite surprised by that.
Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries does have a story driven campaign, it's that because you are a merc, you have to take contracts to fund your personal vendetta.
Yup he clearly sound like he only remembers how the game was initially during it's early access days lol so misinformed he is 🤦♂️🤣 I expected better from him.
@@MsGhost06 >Expecting better from a (((Games Journalist))) >Expecting better from (((IGN))) It's like you actually think they play games and not exist to force their political ideologies down your throat...
@@bookmanjeb7238 MW5:Mercs was a spiritual successor to MW4:Mercs. This seems like a spiritual successor to MW2... so I've been waiting more like 30 years.
If you liked story-driven Mechwarrior, you could have also taken up HBS Games' BATTLETECH strategy game. That one had an incredible story that played out like a modern day TV series.
Been playing mechwarrior games since MW3. Really hope that the game comes out in a very polished state. Fingers crossed. Demo gameplay looks really promising.
Ok, let´s see about single player story and gameplay mechanics. It looks as updated Mercenaries so far. Let´s hope for the best. But please don´t let Ryan touch the review (cough, cough.... Alien: Isolation)
Is there a difference in the mech combat between mercenaries and clans? Or is the only difference, that one has a story? Also is battletech and mechwarrior the same ip?
“We have no idea what these Sphereoids are capable of. Be ready for anything.” Well, now we know why our protagonists are shunned: using a healthy dose of real logic
Been waiting for this for years. Played MW since the beginning. There used to be a similar game called Starsiege that was fun af also! Which spawned Starsiege Tribes, which I'd love to see again.
People at IGN just can't get anything right can they? Saying MW5 was ALL procedurally generated is completely wrong. There are many many many story driven missions that follow a linear progression along with the procedural stuff if you choose. What a worthless company IGN has become in my opinion.
The "story" part, when describing MW5 Mercs as having "story driven missions" is doing a LOT of heavy lifting. The cost of hiring a script writer was number 20 on PGI's list of expenses in making MW5. Right after "buying the dev ' team a coffee".
Please don’t try to defend that lol. Russ Bullock, the CEO himself, in a recent interview even said that the story DLCs were literally just procedurally generated missions with some extra dialogue slapped on top.
@@faydex86 Nearing 500 hours played? Yes, many times lol. Campaigns, dozens of careers including every story DLC multiple times, you name it. I’m certainly not the person you want to use to prove your point lol
Jesus just splitting hairs here. You know what he meant he meant Assault mechs in general. All the small mechs were in the demo, he referred to the Atlas as its The 100 ton killing machine.
"Mechwarrior 5 doesn't have a story" Ok sure m8, what did you launch Career and never touch its campaign? Its not linear, but it 100% has a story and a plotline if you cared to engage with it.

Man this is made in UE5, a little disappointed in the graphics. Was hoping for better details like footprints in the sand, cracked windows in cockpit view or other details, it's looking pretty much the same as MW 5 mercenaries. Hopefully it's just an early build and some polish will have some of the details in the full release.
Bro we have 360 degree cameras on most cars now, ya don't think they could figure out a camera drone to follow behind a mech in the next 1000 or so years?
The clans had a bunch of holdover mechs from the SLDF exodus. Though they were all upgraded with modern clan weapons. Highlanders and Thunderbolts are such examples.
While story can be nice, Mech 5 Mercenaries is awesome with its freemode/scrounge as you go and build up your outfit across the universe and potentially participate in pivotal battle sequences at key points in history since you start just before the 4th Succession War and go all the way up thru the Clan invasion. Really nothing new except for the AI/map control style.
