MECUM AUCTION RESPONDS IN A BIG WAY TO THE SELLER'S SCAM

It would have been extremely disappointing if Mecum did not make this right. I'm happy they believe their reputation is worth much more than a few bucks.

After watching both videos, I think you handled it well. Everybody gets something. You get your money back and a good video. Mecum gets some much needed good advertising. the original seller gets to learn a lesson from Mecum without his name getting dragged in the dirt. Thanks for your videos Dave

Wow…. So glad to see that Mecum did the right thing. And people who commented… you’re 100% at fault. WTF…. The auction said that it ran… and had keys. When… it didn’t even have real spark plug wires. The SELLER WAS TOTALLY TO BLAME …. And that was fraud.

At an auction you always have to figure that the seller is going to try to hide any minor imperfections, and make the vehicle look as good as possible. However, what you ran into was blatant fraud. I am glad to hear that Mecum is going to do the right thing.

Dave glad everything worked out for you. I would not worry about explaining yourself to those that want to post negative comments. Look at the bikes you have in your shop. I think you know what you’re doing. You take care bud and ride safe.

I sold a car for 40k+ at Mecum. The bidding stalled (they did not work it much) and the Mecum guys were pushing me to drop the reserve. I dropped the reserve, and they hammered the sale. A few minutes later I learned a Mecum worker bought the car. No disclosure from Mecum. The guy had it in the next Mecum auction and it didn't reach the price I sold it for. He dragged it to 1 or two more Mecum auctions before her finally sold at or near his purchase number. Auction houses are just shady used car dealers.

I think taking that down was a mistake. It happened. Mecum is a responsible party in this and I would be willing to bet this has happened to others without recourse. You have a fairly popular channel with an obvious long standing relationship with them so it was easy for you to get things amended. I would love to hear from others who have had bad experiences with any auction house not just mecum. Who else has been taken advantage of only to get the run around?

we got 7 bike from mecum they all said concours restoration . all of them had loose bolts wrong parts no fuel lines missing chain rust and corrosion painted over . dont buy online ya have to be there to look them over lesson learned!!

While I'm happy to hear that you'll receive a refund, I also realize that Mecum did it only because you have a RU-vid channel and lots of eyeballs looking. They've got a lot of bad press this year. As for the seller, he's a thief and this act borders on criminal.

I watched the "Scam" video, with all of the details, and am so glad to hear that the auction company is settling up so easily. I had no idea that would happen. Your "Scam" video is so good, and professional, I'm sorry that you took it down. It was very informative and shows how a "Pro" scammer operates. The Richmond was a beautiful bike.

I still stand by the statement that I put on that first video but that's the way I felt about the situation. I trust no one these days. We live in crazy times where people are out for themselves. Again, I'm glad things worked out for you. That was truly an expensive taking someone at their word. Thanks to Mecum for correcting the con job and the con seller.

Mecum handled the situation perfectly and I was really impressed by the two things, number one-they did not ask you to take down the video and two, you took down the video on your own accord.

It’s a good business practice that Mecum did by making your purchase right by buying back the bike. I think that you taking down your video about that purchase was also the right move on your part. You also explained the outcome and your satisfaction with Mecum is also a good thing on your part.

Mecum is a brand that they want to protect!! Which I truly understand… And by no means was it their fault, but it’s very standup of them to buy the bike back!!! This will be between the seller and Mecum!!!! Their reputation is very important and they stand behind it, which is nice to see!!!

Resolving the issue despite various opinions was the goal. I watched the whole video also, feeling quite sick that something SO misrepresented could slip through like that and I applaud your decision to persue the issue and get it resolved. My opinion of Mecum will not change, they are incredible and sell many beautiful vehicles. Hopefully lessons learned!

I sold a few cars at Mecum in DesMoines before they got big and were on TV. The whole family was wonderful to deal with and it was a very positive experience. One of the cars didn't sell on the block but they kept working and had it sold after the sale.

the buyer can look over some aspects of a bike, but at a bike auction, you can't look over them all, and you don't have time to fully go through everything you *might* buy. Unfortunately you have to rely on the seller to be honest to some extent, and the auction house to help hold them to it. This was probably the best possible outcome under the circumstances

Glad to hear the news. This was obviously fraud on the seller's part, and Mecum is on the ball. Hopefully, they will change the way vehicles can be presented. I think you did the right thing to take the video down, it's a great show of good faith on your part. You never placed the blame on Mecum, and they reached out to you in an attempt to make things right. I guess things can be done the right way still.

At least that shows integrity on their part especially when the seller misrepresented it. Gives you confidence that if it's grossly misrepresented then there is recourse especially for online bidders that can't be there in person to inspect.

My respect for Mecum just went up by several thousand degrees...In Business, your REPUTATION is your most valuable asset !

Your auction thinking is much like mine. I used to buy a bunch of surplus military vehicles through a nationwide auction house. Most of the time you couldn't inspect beforehand, and their "inspection" in the auction listing was horrible. They would try to start the vehicle, if it started they would list "runs", and if it didn't they would list "does not run". "Does not run" could mean anything from dead batteries to the complete engine was missing. Even if they listed it as "runs", there has been more than one case where the transmission was missing. The fun of that game was learning how to look at the pics (one thing they were decent about is taking lots of pics) and try to figure out what you were buying. You also learned that most stuff coming from smaller bases were better vehicles, and stuff coming from bases that had a vehicle rebuild site on the base were more likely to vehicles that were broken or components missing. That was a fun time and I made good money, but they switched auction vendors and the new company does a lot better job of getting them ready to sell, providing a detailed inspection report, and a money back guarantee if discrepancies are found in the inspection report. Stuff now brings almost retail, and I got out of the game.

I'm impressed by mecam. But this buyer beware thing is sad. There is supposed to be an honor among the motorcycle community. I was into buying, road restoration of moto guzzis years ago. I bought and sold many times sight unseen. I never got burned or burnt anyone. I was surprised but found an honor among the community. It would be nice to see that come back. Your last video was in my mind the past day thinking this must be what our world has become. A society of animals with no morals. Your video today renewed my faith in humanity. Mecum did the right thing.

A guy bought a black 69 roadrunner he bought it at Mecum and brought it to me saying it had electrical problems ( not uncommon on old cars ) so I started looking at the car. #1 the car was repainted a different color than the fender tag said. #2 the car had a different engine trans than the tag said. Car was said to be a 440 4spd from the factory but it wasn't. #3 wiring under dash was a disaster that could not be seen by looking unless you went upside down under the dash. #4 he was not allowed to start the car but was told it ran but it ran poorly when it arrived via shipment to his home.#5 after much inspection, research, information and overall aggravation he decided to garage the car and not begin fixing it right away. He was very upset the car was represented as an original black 440 4spd car and I showed him that it wasn't. Buyer Beware. He eventually brought the car to me and I spent a year going over the entire car before giving him back a perfectly running beautiful Roadrunner that starts and stops. I don't know if he ever contacted Mecum but he should have

Mecum is liable for representing the bike as a runner, but it is clearly not. Taking it down was a favor to Mecum. The seller will probable be banned from Mecum.

Thank you for being honest in your anger. And happy Mecum came through as they did. But hope they step up there game

Mecum should do a advertisement video on this. And expose the dealer. Its their right too. And ban Miami dealer for a year. Just to teach them, and all scammers a lesson. I'm sure Barrett Jackson would follow suit.

I knew they would make good on it. Yes, it helped that you publicized it on your channel. But also your honesty and ethics is always on display as it's part of your personality. That's what always makes things right for you when things go wrong. We should all learn to be like this and this imperfect world could be a better place.

I was at a car show recently talking to someone about their car and found out they bought it at Mecum Kissimmee last January. They had to wait several months to drive it because they couldn’t get a clear title. Evidently Mecum doesn’t guarantee clear title. The car’s title had a lean on it and it cost the buyer additional money to get it released.

I think you helped Mecum do the right thing. Great work and follow up.

I'm sure Mecum has received numerous complaints about the seller who is at fault. when I checked out his website, I saw a 1973 Rickman for sale. by the way, that Norton looks great. I think the most disappointing thing is the buyer has ZERO integrity when it comes to honesty and what this does to a fellow human being. All they are seeing are the dollar signs when the auctioneer hits the gavel and yells, "Sold!" Integrity is everything!

Now talk about the Chandelier bidding that the majority don't know is happening at Mecum auctions. Most bidders ,especially mid level cars/bikes.I've seen numerous instances of a father and son bidding on a car ,going back and forth with "another bidder" only to be unaware that the other bidder doesn't exist ,and they were just bid up by auction house. They end up paying $30K for a vehicle that had no other money on it above $20K

Unbelievable. From now on make Mecum the first stop. They earned that with their response. And you are a gentleman.

Yay for you. Yes, some can claim you didn't do your due diligence. But, it was falsely advertised. Mecum did the right thing.

This video has restored my faith in Mecum. You talked to the seller and the person told you it ran, so he lied start to your face. You used to be able to take a man for his word ,but those days are gone. Today to many people are out to screw someone over because all their interested in is money. They don't care about being honest and don't care about their word. If I'm selling something to someone I'm going to tell them the truth about it. I was brought up in a time were you word and a hand shake was your word and truth. I'm glad things have worked out for you.

A few more details about what will happen to the unreliable seller would be nice, but you can't have everything. The NORTON looks super! You've done an awesome job on it.

You are 100% correct on this one and your detractors are 100% wrong. The difference between running and not running is huge! If it runs the rest of it can be roughly estimated. If it is not you have to allow for a complete engine. The auction description said it runs.

Every vehicle sold via MECUM should have a 30 day hold on funds delivered to the seller. The 30 days should start upon delivery of the vehicle so the buyer can verify what is claimed. Any discrepancy effecting value and the vehicle should be picked up from the buyer no charge and money refunded.

Bike looks great! I've been fascinated with Wankel motors for a LONG time. I wrote a book report in elementary school back in the 70's regarding the Wankel motor (back when it was the "next big thing"). Sad to see it never took off, but it's also understood.

I'm glad you put up the first video. It taught me a lot to look for at auctions. I am not a dealer but we work on cars so sometimes I look to replace Customers' cars. Mecum stood up to their standing as retubule service. The seller will probably get banned from Mecum. I heard this before on a classic car that had a vin change to make it something it wasn't

My second motorcycle was a rebuilt Honda CB77 bought from a cycle salvage company. Although I paid the price of a running motorcycle, the seller was devious enough to sell it "as is" and I was a dumb teenager. When I got it back home, I found out that the bike been hit on the left side and the centrifugal oil filter had broken away from the block in the collision. Although it ran, it wouldn't have run long with splash oiling. Fortunately I was replacing another Superhawk that had the top end of the motor damaged when I was hit. I was able to make one bike out of the 2. If I hadn't decided to change the oil before I rode it, it would have been junk.
