For me, I carry what's needed for me and my family. Basic first aid. Blood clot, tourniquet, etc. If I'm somewhere with it, something happened, and I'm glad to assist in an emergency or do what I can on my own. That's all a regular dude can do.

Good stuff JJ. I’ve been a paramedic/fireman for approaching 38 years now and I can say without reservation, I’ve yet to see a good “premade” kit. The stuff that’s available is usually full of garbage you don’t really need, and a lot of them these days have items that could do far more harm than good in untrained hands. Then there’s the price tag lol. I get a good laugh when I see what they’re asking for a box of bandaids and tourniquet. I’m sure you get what I mean. Having been a provider in both the military & civilian world, I’ve narrowed it down to what I truly need personally, and what I have available will at least stabilize most emergencies. What folks REALLY need is the proper training to support what they carry. Handing a decompression needle to someone with good intent but zero training/experience is truly horrifying.

@SurvivalDispatch, Everybody nowadays thinks they're a trauma medic or are wannabes. As a former A-EMT NICS/Firefighter/Rescue Diver, who went through 4 years of initial training to become A-EMT NICS Certified, 3 years of Firefighter Training Level I, II, & III (now Classified as Rescue Technician I and II,) 19 months of NAUI Master Rescue Diver Certification Training, seeing all of these weekend medic classes is a joke. You CANNOT learn and retain everything necessary to be a trauma medic. People need to learn Basic First Aid, and ONLY after confidently knowing how to apply Basic First Aid techniques, should they the move on to Advanced First Aid Training. Basic and Adv. First Aid skills are what you'll use 85-90% of the time. And attempting to use "Paramedic" level skills w/o the proper training - again, cannot happen in a weekend - you could be held liable for injuring a person in need of medical attention. And for gawd sakes, do NOT carry advanced gear that YOU do not know how to use. It doesn't make you cool, it makes you an idiot! I've heard people say: *_"but I have the gear in case someone else needs it."_* A person trained to use advanced med. gear will have that gear with them, and it is HIGHLY irresponsible for anyone with advanced training to use another person's gear that: 1. They don't know that person. 2. They don't know that other person's gear or where it comes from, where it's been stored, how old it is, etc.. 3. That gear may be sub-standard, or crap. Internet egos are a dime a dozen, but they need to be checked, and people need to come back to reality.

Thank you, Mr. Morris! I liked this video the first time it came out, and I loved watching it again for a second time... these are important things and we all could use a better understanding of what to do in an emergency... we can't ''be you'' of course, just like you can't be a proper hospital, but we can always ''better'' ourselves a bit... Since ''that's your field'' why don't you start a series about it?... start simple, like things to do in Nature when it ''touches you'' snake and insect bites could be a good example... both ''natural'' and ''off the shelf'' treatments... and you can go from there...

I've been out of the medical field for 2 years. I haven't done a needle decomp or cryc since I was in the Navy going on 9 years ago when I had an expanded scope as an HM. All I carry now is stuff for bleeding. I don't even carry an NPA. It's unfortunately all because of liability, but if I haven't done it in years, why would I risk someone's life and cause further issue?

It is about damn time someone made a common sense video on a medical kit. With all the "You need to have this because I have!" crap, It is good to see that someone had the balls to say "If you don't know what you are doing, just have bandaids and call 911." If I was hurt and I saw this gorilla standing over me, I may pee on myself, but at least he knows what the hell he is doing and not just going to stand there with a "cool medical bag" with all the "cool stuff" hoping that someone will use his stuff. Good Job JJ

I heard about quick clot and how it can damage tissues (not Kleenex) at the edge of the wound. You'd be better off using pressure or packing bandages with gauze or a tourniquet. I don't need nor to I buy stuff I don't know how to use. Without training and skills they are useless at best or dangerous to the patient at worst. All you need is gloves, gauze roll, packing bandages, square or rectangular bandages, stretch bandage roll, peroxide, rubbing alcohol (don't put rubbing alcohol on a wound), bandaids, antibiotic ointment (preferably A&D Triple antibiotic), burn creme, surgical tape, Mylar blankets, ofc meds, tweezers, etc. The basics. You may realize that you already use many of them.
