Med Mooring. At some time you will have to do it! How to Med moor. Easy or Hard? We look at Med mooring, how the types of hulls differ when maneuvering. Use of slime lines and pulling the lines tight to keep the boat in position.

That's a excellent description of how boat design influences slow speed maneuvering. I got lucky with my sail drive, I can barely detect prop wash. Even so, I find the notion of med mooring intimidating. Too many expensive toys all around, ha ha.

Great video. 👍 Personally, any boat new to me, first time out with it I devote most of the time to maneuvering up to, around and away from a usefully located Buoy, or a nice large Round fender with about as much line with a weight on it forvthe depth of the water, and I do that until I'm happy that there won't be any unexpected surprises. Brilliant honest alert for people about that ridiculous Fashion Fad that is twin rudders as well. Variable thrust Bow and Stern thrusters imho really are needed for them not to be a complete liability on a boat imho, plus you lose what is vital to me Rudder Feedback and particularly Early Weatherhelm feedback to depower the Sails in a timely manner. Once you know your boat's ehaviour in all directions, I think forward anchoring prior to reversing back should be a doddle? Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

What is the process if nobody is on the pontoon to throw you the stern lines ?

Generally there is always someone there in daylight hours as they are quick to get the charges or sometimes they leave a local there who you tip. If there is no one there or you dont want to tip someone then you pick the lazy line up from where it goes back to the dock. You or the crew then feed the line alongside to the bow.

The 3D is drawn in Google sketch-up. I think it is now called Trimble. It was free, it's now a a pay for programme. It is also in our other mooring videos. Sail Safe mate. Ant & Cid

Thanks for the video! Sorry, but I'm curious how the slime line was picked up. Was it handed to her by the person in the tender? What do you do when nobody is there to hand it to you? Do you pick it off the dock using boat hook? Also, is it typically obvious as you enter if the set up is slime line versus anchoring?

Good questions Daniel. Yes the guy in the rib hands the slime line to you. Some marinas they jump aboard and do the hard work too. Sometimes they just hand you the line from the dock and stand there with folded arms. It depends where you are. If there are no marinaro's you pick the line from the dock or a small line buoy as you come in to the space. It's not always obvious if there are lines or you are to anchor. Take a look at the other boats to see if there is anchor chain out. Marinas tend to be lines and ports or harbours it is anchor time 🙂 Sail Safe mate. Ant & Cid

We moor almost the same. And indeed, the marinero's are, most of the time , looking if they are on pills.

Yes. But its not always so. You take pot luck. I depends on how good the marina is.
