I am currently trying to recover Medabots' lost german dub. We only got the first two seasons but they can't be found on the net and didn't get a resyndication for the past 15 years. We obviously never got a DVD release either. However I found out the german dub is included in a older UK DVD release of the complete medabots series. Does someone own this version and can help me at least clarify how it looks like? My search is pretty much dead at this point unless someone specifically lists this for sale somewhere or someone tells me what to look for at least. I was a huge fan as a kid so I would love to experience the german voice cast one more time - please help me out if you can. 😄
Ah dude I searched everywhere I could for you, no luck. I have pinned this comment so hopefully someone who may know where you can find it will see this 👍🏽
@@lrblueslowbro5302 it aired on Fox Kids (PayTV: Premiere) for brief a while. The show actually was pretty prominent there and got some reruns. After that it apparently got a short rerun on Tele5 but I never caught that. Are you really sure you watched "every anime" though? 😄
I'm 31 years old, and if I get drunk enough, I'll always inevitably end up drawing medabots. . . The designs were just such a perfect blend of simple yet cool
I watched Metabots as a kid and while its not at the forefront of my mind most of the time, I definitely didn't forget about it. Gosh, the nostalgia! I love when you touch upon the older series like this!
I honestly never forgot medabots. Between the medabots’ designs and the world they built? I was obsessed for years. I just purchased the whole series recently and am very excited at the prospect of you covering it.
I watched the Dutch dub of Medabots as a kid and also played one of the games. I fondly remember the franchise to this day, but could never really articulate why and never bothered to go back to it and find out. I always felt like the only person who remembered this show so I never delved into it. Glad to see I'm not alone in remembering it.
Your not alone in that, so many included myself also forgot the show too 😔. I definitely recommend giving it a rewatch, it holds up well even today 🙌🏼🍻
I hope you enjoyed the video.😊What are your overall thoughts on Medabots? I’m currently working on an episode by episode breakdown of Medabots first season. So if you look forward to seeing that, please do like the video and subscribe to the channel 🍻😊
I was so sad for a second thinking we were only getting a short video on Medabots. I’m hyped for the full season breakdown!!! Can’t wait and keep up the amazing work. So happy to find this channel!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
This and Shinzo have got to be the best forgotten gems that aired 20+ years ago. The animation in Medabots lives rent free in my head--so many vivid memories!
I could never forget this gem. I had a couple of small toys where you could switch out the parts to customize them. Dollar store toys but super cool. I honestly would like this to get a remake. Though I don't know how well they would do with it
Needed toys alongside games! I remember seen wagreymons and metalgarurumons as well as pokemon plushies but not a single medabot action figure as kid, it would help to build nostalgia
I never forgot, it was my favorite growing up. The idea that children could buy robots with machine guns and battle in the busy streets was amazing to me. It also helps that the bully makes a significant appearance in the power puff girls doujin.
Medabots had an insane amount of behind the scenes talent, just about every animator and animation director went on to massively influential projects and success.
I never forget about Medabots, the concept, world and a lot of the characters were amazing. It was however marketed at a younger audience than me even when I was a younger audience and the stories were kind of dull so unfortunately better stories stole my attention.
I remember this show! I had an account on the original website where you could build your own medabots and battle against the computer. I remember my favorite character being Rokusho! One line I'll never forget from the show is "Dude, I rock. MEDAFORCE!"
Man I wish I knew about that website when I was a kid 🥹 Rokusho is awesome, I don’t know why but he reminds me of Mewtwo. Both powerful as hell and are guided by their own virtues and morals.
I remember getting the toys for this show. Those were some of the best anime toys you could get in America at the time. The actual "robattles" you had in real life were iffy, but damn such cool designs for a toy.
I watched Medabots and seen most of the episodes. I didnt get to see how it ended though. I think I was older than the main demographic so it didnt really stick with me later but I sorta appreciated the art style and Ikki and Metabee's dynamics xDDD. The show feels like it be best treated as a slice of life shonen comedy. I like how sorta mundane the kids' life and environments are so it makes the more ridiculous aspects more hilarious xD/.
I watched it as a kid, and never forgot about it. The characters designs and limited animation inspire me a lot as an artist and animator. I collect figures from this show to this day. :)
Nah i could never forget my OG, I credit Medabots to bei9ng my first Anime alongside yugioh! This has always been in the back of my mind and ive gone back to watch it twice in the past few years. Such an epic trip of Nostalgia !!
It's honestly a classic. I can't say it's truly been forgotten. And that in part goes to DISCOTEK getting the series a re-release on Bluray over the past few years. But it's definitely avoided general discussion for some time due to the passage of time. It was always just a fun show. Loved the personalities. Metabee was a riot most of the time. It's great seeing this show get some attention.
Man I loved this show!! The for the video great watch!! I didn't realize how much this show gives you a sense of empathy and care for machinery AI! Like each of the robots have a very unique personality and even emotions. It teaches you lessons of friendship even if its just a programmed machine, you should always respect and bond with your partner and not to treat them just as tools for use and discard!💯
I loved that show and still do. I got all the American dub DVDs and the whole series is up on RU-vid. Just to warn you a lot of the episodes are out of order on the playlist. I think the animation has its charm. Clearly not as polished but still lift it open for some wilder motions. I remember a shot when Samantha learned Spike had lost to little kids, she takes a single hyper-long step to be right face to face with Erika. It was that kind of stuff that made it easier to accept the more unique animation style. The show itself, at least for a while, was fun because it wasn't high stakes, world ending stuff. It was just kids playing to small robots. The first tournament Ikki ever took part in was held in a grocery store parking lot. Then the whole Metapart system was great because it was designed for strategy rather than power scaling. Ikki had a strategist's mind when it came to picking the right parts. The only flaw I ever saw was that in the two fights with the Rockers, he never took the Pheonix leg parts to give Metabee the ability to fly. I even collected all the little figures with the interchangeable parts. It was always fun to imagine I had a Cyandog following me (my personal favorite) and to imagine what medabots I would see other people using. I even imagined customizing medaparts. Like having Cyandog use a sword and shield combo. But repaint them so the right Samurai arm would match the color scheme and even have a yellow blade. While the left Megaphant arm would be painted with a lightning bolt over the shield to match Cyandog's forehead.
Dude, thanks for sharing! I love how we all got to grow up playing with physical toys and figurines. Using our imagination to fill in the ‘action’ was where the fun was at 🙌🏼🍻
I Love Medabots! i grew up watching it in the early 2000’s and i haven't forgotten it, the characters and worldbuilding were very unique, it really sparked my imagination. I still have the gba game that’s like a fighting game and it’s one of my favorites.
With Small Soldiers making a comeback, I hope more classics like Medabots do the same. I didn’t know the show got a second season until I found all the episodes on RU-vid. My parents got me a dozen of those tiny changeable medabots for Christmas when I was a kid and they used them to decorate the Christmas tree
😭 Small Soldiers, I both loved and feared that movie. It’s like Toy Story but the horror version of it 😫. The second season does fall short but I still recommend anyone who enjoys the franchise give it a watch
Medabots was an amazing show and I really enjoyed when I watched it again. As I said before Mr Referee was the star of the show along with Metabee and the main cast. I liked how each character had their own arcs and development, like how Rokusho started out as a Mysterious Medabot with no Medafighter and his story and name at the time was a Mystery and as the show went on we learned more about him and his backstory, even Seaslug of the RubberRobos, Spike and CyanDog got some time to Shine. I am eager to to see the full episode when it comes out.
I was one of the peapole, that have watched it in my child hood, and now I have re watched little bit of the first season now that I need to continue binge watch it.
I watched Metabots when it was on the Fox Kids Saturday Morning block in the early 2000s and there was a rule that was mentioned in the series by Mr. Referee (even though I don't recall the actual episode name), where he encountered the Screws gang and explained to them in order to prevent cheating, that only first-time battles count in the point standings and participants must face a new party in order to earn points unless a rematch involves someone using their real name.
Man ‘Fox Kids’, just that name alone floods me with so much nostalgia! Yeah the rule set was quite tight which is pleasantly surprising given how in Pokémon and Digimon often times they deviate from their game counterparts on that front.
Here in Latin America Fox Kids was a 24 hours TV channel, during the early 2000s it began airing anime series like Digimon, Shinzo and Shaman King, they even had a block called Invasión Anime where they shown more series like Patlabor and, of course, Medabots. I really liked Medabots as a kid, it had a great combination of action, comedy and impressive mechanical and human designs and animations which I can approach as an adult The Spanish dub was actually based on the English version, but it actually worked pretty well, not to mention that is one of the better anime dubs, alongside Slayers, that was made in Venezuela, most people tend to remember the anime that were dub in Mexico, but the Venezuelan cast did a great job, Metabee was voiced by the same actor who voiced Cat in CatDog, Plankton in SpongeBob and Superman in Justice League I wasn't that big of a fan of the second season, though I watched all the episodes as well
if it wasn't for my local movie rental store carrying medabots infinity for the nintendo gamecube, i probably never would have heard about it. i'm a huge fan of the anime.
I definitely watched Medabots growing up and had a lot of the figurines and played with them every day. I also forgot about them until the Twitter color wheel challenge when people used Medabee for the yellow color. I then deep dove into the internet to remember what the character was and then found that I could watch it on Tubi and began to watch it again as an adult. I agree with every point that you made in your video, and still found the nostalgia of watching it again, very satisfying.
Yes, Medabots! I loved this so much when it first aired! Sadly I never did get to see how season 1 ended, but I've wanted to. This show does not get talked about enough.
The entire first season is up on RU-vid, the English dub version. The subbed version can be easily found online. Such an awesome show, I definitely recommend finishing it when you get a chance, I’m working on a retrospective for it too 🙏🏽🍻
Medabots is probably the most underrated 90's show. And no. I personally have never forgotten about Medabots. But out of all the 90's shows it's probably the one that's the most forgotten overall. But personally it's the one i keep coming back to. I've replayed the GBA Medabots games multiple times at this point. I honestly wish we kept getting more Medabots in the west like we do of like Pokémon or DBZ.
no i have not forgotten abt it! it's one of the few things that i remembered as a kid and will always be at the back of my mind. This, Mengaman NT Warrior, Crush Gear etc. Best shows that kept me glued to the TV as a kid. Loved it till this day
My introduction was the GBA game! The Rokusho version specifically. I had no idea who Medabee was until YEARS later, but man I was surprised by how much fun I had with the anime
I remember Medabots being the reason why I wanted to be able to build robots. It deepened my admiration for Technology and I have a BSc and MSc in it now. I always wanted to be Rokusho's owner.
I'd really like a retrospective of Medabots, they deserve it. I was born in 93, so the late 90s, early 00s style anime is a soft spot for me. Medabots, Cardcaptor Sakura, One Piece, Sailor Moon, HxH, Detective Conan and, of course, Digimon and Pokémon, are extremely nostalgic 90s style. Even the DragonBall that is actually mid-80s is a bit similar. I still remember Medabots because it's very unique and fun. I even played a bit of the mobile game last year. Now this video warrants a rewatch.
What you talking about, the animation is Jaw dropping! The animation and spacing are so consistent! The animation doesn't dip like alot of other shounen anime. Medabot is known for having good animation in the animators community
That's some good stuff. I do recall watching in in my childhood, but TV broadcast wasn't consistent, often going back few episodes and reprising arcs, which certainly made the progression of the anime weird. Eventually in 2010-2011, I found myself stuck at home with a quite poor health condition and I began watching anime more frequently and exploring old gems. Eventually I stumbled upon Medabots again and I decided to give a full run in the show that wasn't available for rental nor purchase in my region. So... Fansubs and their vastly well preserved catalog helped a lot when it came accessing this anime again. The show is no groundbreaking master piece, but it certainly have some sweet memorable moments, quite similar to Pokemon in first season. The end of it is on a bittersweet note, especially when you are watching it as a young adult facing the hardships of adult life. In my case, I was in a very bad health condition that halted my life and made me feel like a failure, which certainly made me contemplate if life was worth living. Watching Medabots along other animes certainly helped me to buy sometime before doing anything stupid. I'm not entirely sure if I would watch the whole series all over again and I frankly do not have many people interested on discussing about it, but I guess the whole concept presented on the show is super compelling game material and I did enjoy it a lot. Some time ago I did thought it was quite a shame that Medabots didn't had more animated series, but in other hand I'm kinda glad it didn't got milked and killed like a lot of good old series. It would be lovely to see some of your analysis about the show. 👍
Thank for sharing this 🙏🏽 I hope your feeling better now, and I’m glad Medabots was around at such a time in your life. I will be doing an episode by episode breakdown and give my overall thoughts on Medabots. It’s in the works 🙏🏽🍻
Definitely didnt forgot. I watch it every few years. This was actually more my pokemon than pokemon was. I loved Rokuso , Arcbeettle , and Warbandit. Similadon was dope too. Metabees dub made tgis show though in America.
I absolutely loved metabots as a kid it is so nostalgic to me. I love it and no I did not forget about it and I’m so glad you did this video. It is such an underrated show and if it got a reboot, I would be totally in, I even still have some of my metabots Taco Bell toys from way back
Man ... the nostalgia wave this brought is crazyyyy, I'm from Portugal and I remember this show very well and back then they used to schedule this show before Robot wars and it made so much sense it added much weight to megabots, and that sparked a very huge interest between me and my friends to start learning how to code at an early age thanks to this show 😂😂❤
Hey Arnold, Doug, Recess, Wishbone, Reading Rainbow, Arthur, Mr Rogers neioghborhood, Sesame street, Rugrats, Catdog, X-Men, SpiderMan, Batman, Gargoyles, The Critic, The Simpsons, Animaniacs, Pinky and The Brain, Tazmania, Tiny Toons are all great 90s shows. There are more that i cant remember.
Yes to all of these 👏🏽🔥 I was gonna surprise some of ya’ll with this next video but seeing as though you mentioned it, I’m working on a Rugrats video as we speak 😭🍻
im 35 and wow i can.t belive i forgot about this tv show. i was 11 years old when it came on tv. few weeks ago when i was talking to my friend on discord he was talking about he rembers watching a show called medabots and onces i heared that name. all my memerys of the show came back and all my orther memorys of my child hood flash backs came back to me to. i did not forget the show it was just deep in the back of my memorys and to only way to jog my memory was someone to talk about it. now i remebr everything.
did i ever forget medabots? Ooooh i never did *looks up at the sky* that theme in English just rolls in my head from time to time. like monster ranchers~
Watched it as a kid and never forgot about it. I even played the web game where you'd login every day for points to buy parts etc. and also owned a few of the GBA games. I'm sure if I grew up in Japan I would've played every release of their games since a little into my teenage years I was tracking their new releases and wishing I could play them. Wonderful series.
Never forgot. Hell it’s still kicking over in Japan, well through its mobile game called Medarots S. The last time I heard of that game was that they were having a collaboration with Evangelion and they looked great. The last main game being a remaster called Medarots Classics Plus on the Switch but only in Japan. It’s still popular over there (I think). Idk why the sudden lost of interest in bringing more Medabots outside of Japan hell I would’ve gladly played that mobile game. I think Duel Masters had the same fate, and Megaman Battle Network and Starforce, to some extent, mainly the anime and toy line like the PET and Wave Transfer. Least for MMBN we got the Legacy Collection. Wish they at least remastered the Metabee and Rokusho versions for us.
I wasn't old enough to watch Medabots as a kid in its run. After my formative years, I actually ADORED watching the full series from start to end (Medabot Spirits/Season 2, not so much), and I loved the games
Hard for me to forget this series, especially the medabot designs, most of them are awesome. Shoot in digimon they have an Omnimon variant of metabee and Rokusho called omedamon.
I’m gonna be honest I forgot about this gem. I use to live in Peru and watched it until I was 9 years old around 2003 when my family moved to Houston, TX USA. I use to have the toys and everything they were sick, I remember you could take the armor off to the skeleton and switch armor they were so cool. Never really heard of it when I came to USA and eventually forgot about it until now… thank you for reminding me of his nostalgia.
I watched Medabots back in the day, but I have never really forgotten it; I even would like to see the series get a reboot or revival, provided it was done with care and respect to what came before.
I completely forgot this show. I remembered it a couple years ago because it's occasionally available on the free anime streaming channel available with Roku TVs.
