Salt Lake City, Utah, USA - 2002 Winter Games, Ice Dancing, Free Dance - Medal award ceremony where Gold went to France's Anissina & Peizerat, Silver went to Russia's Lobacheva & Averbukh, and Bronze to Italy's Fusar-Poli & Margaglio.
russian federation and Linnichuk most likely did everything in their power to prevent it from happening. They could not allow that the girl they let go would win gold. Luckily they did not succeed
@@elenamastiukova2787 she didn't). Russian judge did give first place ordinal to Lobacheva/Averbuhk (as did Italian, German & Swiss judges). Btw, Linichuk was coaching swiss ice dancing teams back then)
@@MsRumex French dance pair won fair and square but it was French pair skating judge who started the scandal with the medals. She later revealed that she was threatened to speak out so that Canadian pair could get extra gold. The accusation was that Russians vote for French dancers and French judge votes for Russian pair Berezhnaya /Sikharulidze. See, in this theory there’s was no gold planned for Lobacheva/Averbukh from the start.
@@elenamastiukova2787 first of all Lobacheva and Averbuhk didn't have technical skills to be a Olympic champions. And their compulsory placement very clearly demonstrated this ( they recieved place ordinals from 2nd to 5th, and it was totally deserved). Btw, I think that you are totally wrong, and Russian federation did a lot to secure gold for Lobacheva/Averbuhk, but luckily for French team, Israeli judge didn't get drawn into free dance judging pannell .
@Kevindl1985 Marina lost the insurance. The Russian judge gave her 1st place ordinal to Lobacheva & Averbukh. It should not have been a 5-4 split vote, but it ended up closer than anyone would have expected.
2nd and 3rd place were actually fifth and sixth place or even worse. Lithuanians and Israelis should have been on the podium - Especially Chait/Sakhnovski's Hava Nagila was near to revolutionary and with their difficult twizzle sections they were far ahead of their time. Marina was devastated although they won - I guess nobody will ever know what really happened behind the curtains.
You mean the rumors of their "bought" olympic title? I once read something about it. But I actually never would have thought that she herself had something to do with it.
Yup the Russian mobster that fixed the events was her friend. I would not be shocked if she had something to do with Bourne and Kraatz getting screwed over in Nagano so she could get the bronze medal.
everyone express happiness differently. In 2000, when they first became european and world champions, Marina also did not look very happy on the podium (rather tired and a bit sad).
