SEMPERFI BROTHER..BE BLESSED... GREAT FAMILY..MY DAD PASSED AWAY 10/22..HE WAS 90.. SERVED 40 YRS IN THE CORPS.. BURIED HIM ON NOVEMBER 10.. MARINE CORPS BIRTHDAY...IT WAS SPECIAL...
In August 1969, his unit was ambushed outside of Vandegrift Combat Base in Quang Tri Province. Carter had stopped the enemy's advance when a grenade landed between him and his fellow Marines - Carter threw himself on the grenade, sacrificing his life to save the lives of others. From this USMC mom to his Gold Star Mom . . . God bless her.
It took so long 45 yrs. to send a body of Marine back from Vietnam. War is a monster/killer over a human. I was lucky twice during the combat in the Vietnam War.
This is my only gripe when awarding the MOH. Young enlisted personnel mostly earn theirs by dying. Yet, senior officers earn theirs simply by sending these young men and women into battle. Throughout our war history there are many enlisted men who should have been awarded the MOH but no there to document their heroism mainly because their buddies also died. I remember when my unit went to 'Nam, our career officers submitted requests for a Bronze Star. This would have looked good on their records. Gladly someone up the line nixed this.
@@XJarhead360, it is, as has always been the case, that the brass rarely earn any of the accolades handed to them. There is a saying in the military that"S--- flows downhill". The lower ranks pay in blood so the brass can be rewarded with promotions and medals. I'm a Vietnam era vet and my time will soon be over. Until the day I die I will NEVER understand the horrid waste of so may lives both in Vietnam and in Afghanistan. At least the young men and women today can wear their uniforms with pride whereas we had to hide ours once we were stateside.
@@janetbrowning9089, my heart goes out to you with your loss. The day after Thanksgiving, the 26th, will mark 22 years since I lost the greatest gift God ever gave me to cancer. Sadly, one of the biggest outrages of that phoney "war" was to find bottom feeders like John Kerry, who was supposed to be one of our own, jumping ship and joining forces with Hanoi Jane to benefit his political ambitions and knifing all of his fellow military comrades in the back. John McCain, the songbird of the Hanoi Hilton was another, who sang like a canary for the NVA. Those are some of the really hurtful things our men and women faced when they returned to a nation that didn't want them.
The greatest thing I did today was watching this escort I don't see it as a Final Salute PFC Bruce Wayne Carter - Company H, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division Posthumous MEDAL OF HONOR Vietnam War All Americans salute this man / soldier / marine every time we stand for the flag! Thanks to all that made this escort amazing & special thanks to Patrick J. Hughes for taking the time.
Mike Simpson, just wanted 2 let the 🇱🇷 know that our colors don't run, Our military men/ women are should be considered heros these awesome group of people who put there🇱🇷 lives on the line every damn day month or even yrs what an honor what grace, and true humility dignity. God bless the 🇺🇸.
Whiskey sierra delta Delta . You think your better than him . As you know in history it was always said soldier soldier soldier . Seems like your the. Civilian. You could have just said nevermind but nooo you try to be cool speaking radio code smh shame one you . 3rd battalion fifth marines . Smh if you really served and think your better than a civilian than truly shame on you we enlist for country meaning anything in it smh 🖕
I've always wondered where these men and women come from. Ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Some of the books I've read about WW 2 and Viet Nam, I read a page or two then I have to stop because I can't see through the tears. God bless all our service members.
Welcome home Patriot, PFC Carter My Sincere condolences to the Family of this Marine! The commitment demonstrated by your service is immensely appreciated!
There can never be enough said to make sure that this man has the honor he deserves. A medal of honor winner is someone who has given his all and in doing so has saved the lives of countless people but has done so in such a fashion that most of us dont even realixe that they did anything different or unusual. These are the true heros. The ones who do wonderful things without of reward
Just one thing... I am not American, I am Greek and I have the impression that you don't win the Medal of Honor. It is awarded to someone for his actions beyond of call of duty. If I am mistaken, please correct me.
@@paparia_mentoles, As Patrick Holland stated, you are correct. To a person, though, every recipient of the MOH states or has stated that it is not their medal but belongs to all of those serving with them, both the survivors and those that paid the ultimate price, they are just wearing it for them. This is the calibre of people that receive this honor.
@@paparia_mentoles you are correct. It is an honor bestowed on someone that went above and beyond the call of duty without thought of the cost, life or limb, usually both. It’s laying on that grenade thrown in the middle of your fellow soldier, it’s walking into the mouth of hell to pull your buddy out or give them a chance to get out while you stay behind. You make the sacrifices so that others may live…
All this is for the living. The last thing that Carter remembers is the humidity, the mosquitos, the flies, the ants and the unknown of what's next in the jungle. His last thought was, "Goddammit. Fuck this shit."
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HHOOAAHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OORRAAHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!! SEMPER FIDELIS & THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE YOUNG MAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They’re commemorative coins for the Marines who rendered the salute in honor of the precious young Medal of Honor posthumous recipient. One day, they may place those coins on the headstone of this young hero resting in Arlington. We can never give enough honor, gratitude or praise to our service men and women past, present or future… ✨🇺🇸 ✨
NOBODY wins the MOH, it is bestowed upon them as a recipient of the medal. In August 1969, his unit was ambushed outside of Vandegrift Combat Base in Quang Tri Province. Carter had stopped the enemy's advance when a grenade landed between him and his fellow Marines - Carter threw himself on the grenade, sacrificing his life to save the lives of others.
I served 2 yrs in Viet Nam with Company B, 34th. engineering Batallion, stationed at Ben Hua air-base my last yr there. Thank you for your service. God Bless.
Hello 4th IN Div Vietnam vet. I went over on the advance party and later joined Co A 4th Bn 2nd BDE 4th IN div as a plt Ldr and was medivaced in 1967 from 3 Tango I think it was also called to Oasis. I served with CPT Harvey as a plt Ldr. I admired Cpt Harvey, because he knew what he was doing , and had been to Vietnam once before. Welcome home .
Given the way we were treated after coming home from Vietnam, it is good to see how things have changed over the past 55 years. Unfortunately PFC Carter had to give his young life to achieve the honor he so richly deserved.
Whenever I meet a vet, I shake their hand and thank them for their service. Having had a uncle who did two tours in Vietnam and having witnessed first hand the utter disrespect given our returning Vietnam vets, I would like to thank you for your service and give you a hearty “Welcome Home!”. Of our paths ever cross the first beer is on me.
God bless the Police Honor Guard for being there and their dedication but they cannot match the precision of the Marine Corps. Respect sends the fallen home so Thank You all for giving those lost that...
“A veteran is someone who at one point in his life wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America for an amount of up to and including his life. That is HONOR, and there are way to many people in this country who no longer understand it!” Go easy Marine, Semper Fi. (Vietnam Veteran, U.S.Army)
@@zuzannawisniewska4464 does anyone understand the word honor today? Let me give you an example of how people think today. I am a Vietnam Veteran. I said that to a high school kid once, he just looked at me and said “I’ve never heard of Vietnam.” Are you shitting me!? That should answer your question about what this generation thinks about honor! 😢👎
@Jacob Russo You're right. On occasions, when there's nothing else to do we often argue amongst ourselves. When it comes to it and we turn together to face a threat to either of us then you'd better stand by. I've worked alongside your Marines,, snappy dressers, good people and always the best kit that we've always been happy to "borrow on a permanent basis" but, happy to fight alongside them. Rest easy Marine.
mirage 455, he never had to face that humiliating treatment that so many of us did. He made the ultimate sacrifice in giving his life to save his fellow Marines. As I have stated elsewhere, the young men and women today can thankfully wear their uniforms with pride whereas we were told to hide ours and not wear it home once we processed out. I have never been, nor will I ever be, an anti-war protestor, but until the day I die I will NEVER understand why our government chose to waste so many of our young men and women in Vietnam and now Afghanistan. We gained nothing but a lot of innocent lives lost and in both cases we abandoned billions of dollars in arms and equipment for our former enemies to confiscate and use. None of it makes any sense to me. RIP, my brothers.
And when he gets to Heaven St Peter he will tell : " Another Marine repoorting, Sir.. I've served my time in Hell . " Semper Fi, Welcome Home, and rest easy, bro.
