Genial video! Felicitaciones!! - Te recomiendo venir a Cusco, en Perú! La parte de la ciudad (downtown) es cosmopolita!! Hay gente de todas partes del mundo, y se habla varias lenguas cada día; pero, principalmente, español e inglés. - Most of people there, as a matter of fact, speak English very well :)

Hi Daniel!! Thank you so much for visiting Colombia, and specifically Medellin! I am a first generation American, both of my parents are Colombian, though I’ve only visited Colombia a few times in my life. I’ve been wanting to visit and experience Medellin, so thank you for providing this “preview” of the city. I would so want to connect with the lady who is a tour guide, that may be something I would like to pursue doing!!

Great people, and regarding to their language, their accent is very interesting and easy to recognize, very different to the accent we have here in Mexico, I’d love to know more people from there and visit their country in the future! As you might noticed it, people in Colombia don't use to speak another language but Spanish, this is related to all countries close to us speak Spanish as well. It's not necessary like it is in Europe, for example. Few days ago, I just saw your video talking about your experience in Medellín, what an amazing video. I'm glad you came back, always welcome to the best coffee land.

@korelamerikano

🐢 Iwent to Medellin 15 years ago with my exes family. I spent time visiting an all girls school where they asked if American schools were really like how it was portrayed in the movies: cliques and Americans don’t care as much about school/study. In the 2000s a lot of movies geared towards a younger teen/young adult demographic put a lot of emphasis on the social structures and hierarchies of attending high school. I loved visiting Medellin even though at the time I was unaware of the dangers in those days (many shops and places like McDonalds had militia with guns stand at the door). But I was struck by how friendly the people were and how the parks were filled with entire families (grandparents, parents, kids) spending time together and picnicking… something you rarely see in America. Also, the sheer beauty of the mountainous city was unforgettable. My grandmother was born in Panama and grew up in Bogata before she married at 15y.o. In America. It was nice to see Medellin as a glimpse into Colombian life even though I couldn’t go to Bogata. When dancing in Medellin an older man in the family I was staying at referred to me as “costeña”. Maybe someday I will get the chance to go back and visit.

Dan you have some great people in this video. The tour guide was amazing with her language skills. I taught English in Mexico for many years. Latin America is not Europe when it comes to knowing languages. (Though it may be a step above the US.) Most people speak only one language. But you'll find many people who speak some English. As you know I'm living in Brazil. A good Brazilian friend (who speaks English quite well) told me that 10% of Brazilians can speak English. 5% speak Spanish. And 2% speak another language.
@publicminx
@publicminx Месяц назад
lets be realistic. despite the stereotype you have in the US much more ppl speaking other languages than in Latin America. Spain and Portugal were also shit (like France btw.) in the 20. century but since then (especially Portugal which is now under the best 10 non-native English speaking countries in the world) the are evolving fast (France sucks still (as every online gamer knows, in fact it get surpassed by one other european country after the other). Anyway, in Latin America most people didnt travel abroad, if anything just get more about their neighboring countries. The situation is also a bit similar to the US. On one side the US has Canada, another big country and wherever you go there is English except little French or other language enclaves) - on the other side Mexico with Spanish. In the Latin American world there is mostly Spanish (in Brasil of course Portuguese). Ordinary ppl just usually speak one language. The stereotypes about the US vs. Europa are in reality the stereotypes between the most developed western countries. Also other stereotypes. Do you really believe that if one travels around most parts of the world and ask people that you get eloquent answers? are you aware that most ppl in most less developed countries even often dont know from which countries Berlin, London or Paris are the capital? even if this was far more worse in the 20. century you still have many people who even dont know the own country they live in (and this without rigging some videos for clickbait like some fake videos about the 'dumb' us). Mexico should also be much better with English with US and Canada as neighbor - AND English as the global language. It is worse if a Non-English-speaking country does not know English than the other way around, because only English is realistically relevant. Thats why i dont blame UK or the US etc. for learning less other languages than for instance Europeans (because also in Europe basically all talk in reality with English to each other nowadays. People who dont know that are idiots). And thats also the reason why Latin America is still far behind - most live still in a Spanish speaking bubble without much outer contact. But really to blame are countries like France, being already since a longer time evolved with a high education system but performing so bad (see English proficiency ranking). To long to self-centric. In the 20. century most of central western/northern Europe traveled already a lot (Germany was travel master of the world for a long time and maybe is still - likeminded countries imilar) - while France stayed mostly at home. This changed now with the younger generation (but still many only reach Spain). Such things and stupid language laws (ideology) had let France fall back. Spain and Portugal were for similar reasons back but have at least the excuse of a) were much less developed (partly still under dictator ship) which also means poorer a worse education system etc... and b) now catching up much faster.

Hi Daniel, I really like your projects. I think what you do is very valuable and gives us great insight into different cultures and places. I wanted to give honest feedback specifically for this video, I guess you created it quickly and didn't take as much care as before. Details like camera shaking, the frame moving a lot and not remaining stable, dust or stains in front of the camera sometimes, editing style (you used to add some cuts around that place) are slightly noticeable. I hope you bring new videos like your old quality in the future, we love following you🍀
