Microsoft's entire strategy is software and services. That's exactly what Game Pass is. Software on a subscription service. It doesn't get any easier than this explanation.

This guy needs to talk to PS employees. Their strategy of having no new games, charging $700 for a new console with no disk drive and no stand, what company has gone nuts?

People may feel confused because MS is the first consoler maker who is also the biggest publisher. The industry has never seen this before.

The big clue is in the name MICROSOFT. Software and distribution of software. Sony by comparison is a hardware company. Phones, tablets, cameras, T.V's, HI FI's, sound bars and PlayStation. So it makes sense that MS pushes SOFTWARE that they hold the license for to HARDWARE providers. It's this fun little dichotomy that needs each other.

I don't see what's confusing about Microsoft's strategy. In fact, it couldn't be simpler. Everything is banking on Game Pass and they will continue to push Game Pass while bringing select titles to Playstation to expand their customer base. I'd like to see an update from the leadership team on the new console, especially now that Sony has announced the PS5 Pro, and I'd like to see Microsoft continue to work with Japanese publishers like Square Enix to bring games like Final Fantasy 16 to Xbox, but other than that, I'm happy with the direction they're taking.

Microsoft: We want to move away from console exclusive games. We want to expand the reach of Xbox via games, hardware and services. Seems simple enough to understand. It's only confusing if what Xbox is doing doesn't match what you think they should be doing.

Microsoft is, first and foremost, a software company. I'm not sure about the confusion except from those whose expectations were influenced by Microsoft's venture into hardware vis-a-vis Xbox consoles, which was a vehicle for software (and were often sold as a subsidy as software made up for it). I'm curious as to how they'll move forward. I'm thinking as internet connectivity becomes faster and more ubiquitous, they'll make the need for high-end hardware obsolete by building more powerful and efficient servers and offload the processing serverside, negating the need to buy a high end next gen console. That could potentially undercut Sony completely. Just my opinion fwiw...

Unlike a lot of people (mostly just online overly vocal "people") I am very happy with game pass, and with XBox. I love my Series X, and I love the way game pass is going. I'm glad XBox isn't releasing a mid gen upgrade (very happy with the X) and my only concern really is just making sure they are staying in the console business. The next XBox system should be amazing. Am I a fanboy? No, I'm a multiplatform gamer and I just want... games.

Dude, Elite Dangerous and No Man’s Sky are nowhere near the same types of space games. NMS space travel is based on pure fantasy. You can land on the surface of a planet from orbit as easily as driving to the corner store. I love all three games but if SF were to copy either, I’d much rather it be Elite Dangerous. I love all three games but I would be very disappointed if SF went with seamless flight like NMS. I’d rather it stay the way it is. I still play the game everyday.

Just want to put this out there. I actually genuinely appreciate how meticulous you are when it comes to reading quotes/statements. It's a welcome breath of fresh air considering too much of gaming youtube consistently misinterprets whatever it is they're reading &/or hearing. Whether it's a 1st hand or 2nd hand account (which they don't even realize are not the same thing). That being said, I do genuinely think Starfield is not going to age well at all in terms of the case by case thing. I'd also add...I'm in the minority where I don't care about Xbox games going elsewhere. So long as I still get them in Game Pass.

If you want to really see their strategy all you got to do is look at what they receive bonuses for. It used to be console sales, then it shifted to game pass subscribers, now it has shifted to monthly active players on their franchises. Their goal is to get as many people playing their games as possible. That's it. And I should add, that that is a fantastic goal and everyone should be cheering for it. Multiplat is not the devil.

what I don't understand is IF they want GP sub #'s to increase due to cod and whatever else.. why don't they advertise the hell out of it? Where's the full page ads detailing gamepass and cod, where's the series x and series s COD bundles? where's the commercials for how great a product gamepass is? they are doing none of this and just expect the #'s to go up.. if they're not allowed to because of the ftc or whatever else, why not come out and say that? they want to expose people to gamepass, but won't let people know what it is? there are still a shit ton of people out there who have no idea what gamepass is or what it entails.

ill break it down for you. Playstation fanboi's dont like the fact we get all our 1st party and partner games included in our subscription. Playstation Media bias says the exact same thing. Some Xbox content creators and now the media have jumped on this bandwagon of we are confused.. tell us which games are going to other platforms so we know.. Its really easy to understand Xbox's strategy. GAMEPASS Xbox Ultimate/ PC users get all the benefits of being in the Xbox eco system. Day 1 games and partner games. Some games will go to other platforms which is STILL on a case by case basis. I still dont get what all the confusion is about.. WHY would Xbox tell the media and content creators what their plans are regarding multiplat releases etc... i believe its because they still want to console war or have some bragging rights. Like literally who cares. Day 1 games to gamepass at no extra cost on your subscription. if other platforms get the game 6 months to 4 years later... that is more money to go back into gamepass... again who cares if other platforms get to play old games that people have finished. if it makes gamepass even better thats a win win. Some games will still be console exclusive... i dont know how many times Phil has said CASE BY CASE BASIS!!! Also i still dont get this console sold as a metric....Playstation sell their consoles to the same users so no growth. Playstation usesrs dont buy games as its clear with every game that is released on Playstation only %10 of their user base purchase them.. Literally the stats show Playstation is only really used for F2P games and some 3rd party ones. I believe Xbox main goal is to over time fill up the Playstation store with Xbox owned ip that it litterally suffocates it. Gamers only have a certain amount they spend on games per year. the more xbox ip is in the store the more money is taken away from Playstation 1st party games. If a Playstation user spend more on xbox games then the question then becomes.. why am i buying these games when i get an xbox and get gamepass!!! I believe with all the downward trends that we see with Playstation, the PS6 will be their last console.. Sony are more interested in Music, Movies and TV.. They will continue to make games but those IP will be used Film and TV too.

Why does every xbox fan refuse any criticism of it especially when game pass has been question? Seriously just asking with that question... I got both systems and I dont think gamepass is what a lot of yall make it out to be. It hasn't made the quality of games go up at all and PC players only like it cause they get to mod games. What I do like and the only thing is certain games that hit game pass you can try out before you buy not a fan of ol ass games or most games that are 15yrs ago. I've been waiting a couple years and starfield is alright and bout the only game I play on xbox but it's not top tier more of B- area. So I just wonder do yall just base Xbox on past achievements and how those games were cause as someone who doesn't care which system is coming with the games I'm trying to play them but Playstation has been the better selection and they've been Seriously lacking in their quality and if Microsoft was going to catch up it would be the time , honestly COD sucks period for me but I hate first person anything I'd rather see my character not hands or just the gun it's dumb to me. I hate that people want Xbox and PS to chase each other. No, the industry does not need two similar consoles with the same games. Xbox needs to go in it's own direction. Crate a handheld and PC hybrid for next gen. Stop putting out a $500 console to match Playstation. We are just going in circles.

I think Indiana Jones decision came from the top due to the continued ABK merger battle with the FTC. MS flipped their tune awfully quick since Phil Spencer's last comments. if a PS5 version was planned all along it would launch the same day as xbox. Something pushed that decision. IMO having Indy xbox exclusive isn't worth losing to the FTC in their court and having to take it to the supreme court.

Playing Starfield on PC, each load screen is like 1-2 seconds for me so not a big deal breaker. If you think about what they have created. Each main city were bigger than the previous games, had more missions in them than previous games. Some main and side quest missions took you to other planets and system. There are quite a few different hubs around the systems. 150+ unique POI in the starfield universe, more than any other Bethesda game.. Shattered Space which has been in development before the release of Starfield, was always going to be a handcrafted expansion set on a planet.. they even said that in the presentation so i dont think it has anything to do with complaints. if each year they can keep adding this types of Expansions to flesh out the universe that would be fantastic. Starfield was and still is a great game and adding more content like this will keep people playing.

Microsoft gaming is crushing it now that they've abandoned Xbox and embraced third party. Gamepass is definitely not crushing it as hard as they had hoped it would by now.

Games pass is great and sustainable. Our strategy is game pass and subscription services. When we all play we all win. The next day they say it’s not enough and they need more sales and puts games outside of game pass. It might be their fault that some people are confused 😂
