I have this very kit bag. I took one of the “levels” and opened up the center for one big pouch. I use it for use on my motorcycle. I love it. Great info on the books!
SkipperT, I love your videos including the Chili one, but youre gonna get someone hurt with this kit. The OPA are too big, you need the kit with 6-8 OPAs and the ability to measure which one to use or youll make the victim gag and choke on their vomit; check your spec ops book pg. 8-2 about hsing j tubes - "Have suction available before attempting." The surgical kit is useless without the secondary equipment; there is no need for scalpels unless you know how to perform a cricothyroidectomy, or relieve a pneumothorax and even then you have no survical tubes. Sewing needles are useless without the thread unless those came as a sterile kit. Also someone is going to get an infection from a surgical procedure because povidine WIPES help on the surface but you cant wipe out a gaping wound with a small towlette size povidine - get fluid and put it in a small carry bottle like the travel containers at a dollar store. If youre gonna cut someone open or stitch them up, povidine fluid poured copiously over and into the wound with ample scrub after saline irrigation is necessary; wipes are good for wiping YOUR hands before procedure, not wiping inside the patient's wound especially with only the four wipes in your bag. These are just a few examples, so without properly disinfecting the site, that surgical kit is useless and will hurt the victim. And if youre going to keep a sterile field, get some sterile prepackaged surgical gloves instead of a box of them - sterile surg gloves come in a pack of two for left and right but theyre sized by number so youll have to try on a few; using gloves you "keep and use in the shop" are guaranteed to be crawling with bacteria. Also, what antibiotics are you carrying? If you use the wrong one for a certain type of infection (amoebic/parasitic, bacterial, spiro, viral, etc), you will really hurt the victim, and most infections are only correctly diagnosed with a lab workup. Different infections can have the same symptoms, so most need labwork which is why most images on pgs A-21 to A-26 show the microscopic image of the infectives. If you give one for bacterial, and its a viral infection, the patient may go into a comma - antibiotics are not as generic as most people think. I am being a bit harsh because you seem to care about people around you, but you should not sit back with a false sense of security that those tools will help with the full knowledge. So rather than take this critique as a bashing, take some of the examples and learn from them with your literature. Also, start creating exam sheets as they will help with assessments, then to diagnoses and treatments. Start with the most critical ones and work back from there - Cardiac exam, Pulmonary exam, Neuro exam. These are the three things we check for immediately. From there, with the help of your literature and independent research, you will begin to learn which tools you will need and how to use them.
+AJ Usog I am not offended, and this is not all the equipment at hand. This is a quick grab and go bag to supplement the rest of the group, A doctor and pa on board as well. I am not the medical expert, but learn more everyday. I will check the references you make, as I am into learning more!! I am also considering taking an EMT course to better prepare for first responder triage. I am certified in first aid and CPR but want to expand the knowledge base. I am doing more to be prepared than the average person I know and fortunately have gotten a few trained personnel involved and active. I am hoping to get more people involved in the post apocalyptic side of things, as in the rebuilding process. Hopefully these skills will be good barter services. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
+SkipperT Sorry wrong button,,, we have had this discussion in our group and decided that covering the hole (as the most likely reason for a collapsed lung) and getting the person back to trained hands is our best bet. With the packaging in the small Molle EMT bag, we should be able to handle this. Also in reference to the pneumothorax we all carry pens, and this is one reason why, we could do this in an emergency. We have been trained where and when to employ. Bear in mind our info is for a severe last ditch effort to save a life, the others can handle this for a longer term situation. Also we have a whole kit of oral airways, at least 6 sizes, the rest are in another box of supplies, we put the 2 most general sizes in the grab and go kit.
