I’m starting as a medical receptionist for a dermatology/ aesthetic surgery practice in two weeks. I have no previous experience in the medical field but they said I had the right personality and attitude for the job(: thank you for your video, it gives me a little idea of what to expect. I’m nervous to learn the systems because they are all new to me but I’m hoping it goes well!

Hello! My name is Drew and I start today as a receptionist and assistant at a chiropractor office I have no medical experience but I am a very good person when it come to computers and communication since I have manager experience in the restaurant industry and I know how to talk to people since I have done sales in the past as well this seems way simpler then most jobs but very desk like assignments which isn’t bad im pretty good at just doing about that. Hardest thing sounds like talking to the customers as far as setting up over the phone appointments and checking insurances and prescriptions/medications other then that im a fast learner very polite and I am driven to learn I always try to do my best I like reading a lot and writing i don’t know if this is a easy job but from the looks it seems more laided back compared to alot of jobs and that gives me a lot of confidence in what’s going to come. wish me luck. Any tips would help! Thank you Drew.!

I like your video I'm thinking about finding a Receptionist job in a medical office as I am burned to the max with my current job, I handle 30 to 40 calls an hour which is very extreme, I also manage some files and input data in the computer, along with processing some AP, and other work not related to my job. I tried bringing it up to my superiors but they keep telling me I need experience, like I've been handling hundreds of calls everyday along with doing other work that I should be paid extra for the past 4 years, what more experience do you have to give me? I use to work as a Receptionist File Clerk at a different place and it was never this hectic like my current job. Maybe it's time for a change and hopefully in a medical office field :). Since I have excellent experience in a office setting at a high volume and fast paced environment do I still need certification to be able to qualify for a medical Receptionist? 🤔
@maricela93
@maricela93 2 года назад
Hello! I’m glad you enjoyed my video! ☺️ I agree 30-40 calls is overboard! If your managers seem to not care that your overworked it’s time to leave! A lot of facilities don’t care at my old job I was overworked also and I was doing other peoples jobs too and that wasn’t fair nobody was listening so I found a different job and I love it now! Honestly you don’t have to have a certificate, it is preferred but not required. I hope you find a job you love! 🤞🏼

So you've been working in the same company for 4 years? Ohhhhh, from what I hear, it's a healthier option to switch jobs every 3 years to increase your wages, since acquisition budgets for new hires are higher than retention budgets for existing employees. Also most don't tend to value you even if stick with them for 6+ years.
@maricela93

Since I live in a smaller town all clinics around where I live will start you at minimal wage sadly. So for now my best option is to stay at my current office.

Dear Marciela. I really enjoyed watching your video. I am thinking of searching for a Clinical Secretary position ( I don't know how different this title is from Medical Receptionist). But to be honest, I am nervous about receiving patients. Let me put it this way. I am not confident about my communication skills and I am afraid of making mistakes.
@maricela93
@maricela93 2 года назад
Hi there! 🙋🏻‍♀️ I think it’s the same.. honestly that’s was one of my biggest issues also was the communication! But I think just as long as your nice to them and ask lots of question depending what their question is then I think you should be fine. It’ll come natural to you. Most of their questions are super simple like what time is their appointment. Making mistakes is ok. It’s part of learning! You got this!

Hiiiii!!!!! So if you want to do reception / M.A. I think it’s a really great stepping stone into seeing how medical is like in case you ever want to take it further. For receptionist you just have to be able to multitask, stay organized and have thick skin! Some patients are on a whole new level! Lol It’s a lot of on the job learning you just need to have your certificate. Also ask questions and write stuff down everything is repetitive so you’ll learn it fast! Let me know if you have more questions 😌
