Thank you for posting this video. You provided a huge amount of good advice. I would like to inquire about the portfolio, since that aspect of the hiring process is unique compared to a typical job application. Is the portfolio typically a hardcopy of all possible articles that you have written? Would the hiring manager expect a binder of your work or would an E-mail be another possibility that will suffice?

There are online resources you can take advantage of at the American Medical Writers Association and network with people in the field! Medical writing involves understanding different target audiences, regulatory guidelines, and best practices in medical communications in addition to our foundation of medical knowledge.

The medical writing jobs you are talking are mostly posted by multinational CRO. Can a foreign doctors who have experiences apply for the jobs ?? Or Do i need working visa to apply even the jobs will be done remotely (Fully Remote) ?

Hi Chizoba, I would start with Coursera. They have quite a few courses on medical writing which aren't expensive and can you read other people's reviews on them. I don't think you have to spend too much money learning these skills and it's good to just understand the foundation and put it into practice! There are definitely remote opportunities for internships especially in the tech industry where a lot of employees are remote. Reach out directly to the team and company you're interested in working for and ask to intern with them as a medical writer! The more people you reach out to the higher chance you'll find the right opportunity for you! Good luck!

I'm starting a career in medical writing. What type of insurance should a medical writer carry? E&O doesn't cover bodily harm. If someone sues based on educational materials you publish, what would protect you? Thanks!

You can definitely apply to these jobs online since they can be done remotely. You will need to establish strong relationships with the companies and organizations first or try going through an agency.
