Great information, thank you. I’m appalled at the cost of healthcare in the U.S., particularly for seniors. How does anyone on a limited income keep a roof over their head facing upwards of $7000 ‘out of pocket’? The system is designed to benefit big pharma, doctors, hospitals. This has to change.
@Referencez
@Referencez 4 года назад
Depends on what state you live in with the Medicare Advantage plans offered. In Nevada for instance, a plan is $0 premium, 0 copay for primary, specialist, inpatient hosp unlimited days, outpatient surgery, it also gives you dental, vision, and hearing the original medicare doesn't cover. An advantage plan is a route for seniors on a fixed income wanting healthcare (because it covers the exact same services that original medicare covers, they're obligated to) at a low out-of-pocket cost. Not to mention some plans have a maximum out of pocket of $1,000. It'll be hard to reach that because most of your services are covered 100%. The only few scenarios are cancer treatments, and skilled nursing facility beyond 40 days.
@Referencez
@Referencez 4 года назад
larueleroux how so? What a blatant statement, you have no evidence or data to support that. And what math do you mean? Everything I listed is literally 0. Which means you pay nothing. Think you need to write out your post again, for whatever you’re trying to say or get a certain point across.
@Referencez
@Referencez 4 года назад
larueleroux you’re incredibly weak in this false argument you’re trying to make. A simple google search of a standard Medicare advantage plan offered in Nevada could solve this issue of yours of denial.

@@Referencez But what about coverage limits? Real-life example: a friend of mine has Parkinson's, one of the few medications that are still effective costs upwards of $3000 / month. Will it be covered only by advantage plans (from any insurance company in the US), or only by supplemental medicare plans, or by both? Thanks in advance for any additional information.
@Referencez
@Referencez 3 года назад
@@daanwg2796 for prescription medication, like prescription drugs, it will be covered by part D plans administered by private insurance companies. Part D is often implemented in Medicare advantage plans. If not, and you have a Medicare supplement plan, you’d have to purchase a stand alone Part D plan which will have an additional premium. However, there are many part D plans offered in any given county in each state. There are some with higher premiums and lower copays, and higher copays but lower premium. Each plan will have a different formula for covered drugs so i would start there to try and look for a medication especially one that’s very expensive like that. It will often fall under a “tier”. The higher the tier the more expensive it is. There are savings programs and government assistance for folks with lower-mid income to qualify so they can save on drugs as well.

Steve, this means that Medicare Advantage plans are regional, and plan availability will depend on where you live. If you move outside of your Advantage Plans’s service area, you will have to change plans. Additionally, some plans only offer non-emergency coverage within a certain service area, so if you are traveling, you may or may not have non-emergency coverage. I hope this helps! I have Medicare part A, B, D and supplemental part F. I have no copay or deductible. I'm covered 100%. No matter what state, or what facility I go to. Supplemental coverage is standardized. Many Advantage plans charge the same or more than what I pay for my Supplemental, yet cover a lot less. Be smart and do your research. It won't be easy, but it must be done. Good thing is, if you like your plan you don't have to change it every year.

I have been with Supplemental N since I was eligible for Medicare. I chose this route because my husband did nothing when he was eligible and he had a heart attack, which thankfully they cleaned out the "widow maker artery," but needed a pace maker. We had to wait for open enrollment to which he got a Advantage PPO and was able to get his pace maker surgery without much cost to us, this was in 2019 Jan. I have been paying $129 a month for my supplemental since beginning and I am thinking about changing to an Advantage PPO so I can keep my cardiologist and primary care doctor. It seems like we never have bills come in for my husband, and yet I am paying monthly payments for my supplemental and I am being charged for Quest lab work and copays. Also, I have no silver sneakers or any other "goodies." What are your thoughts on this?

I have been on disabilty since 2014 and never had part d so I assume I will have to pay a penalty if I choose an advantage plan. Do you think an advantage plan may be my best choice at this point? I have to see a rhumatologist every 6 months so I assume thats something I would need a referralral for. Could I just get a referral from my primary doctor?
@AbtInsuranceAgency
@AbtInsuranceAgency 5 лет назад
VapeKing good questions. Most Medicare Advantage Plans include Part D Rx coverage, so you wouldn’t face a penalty for Part D as long as your plan includes the Rx benefits. Medicare Advantage HMO plans do require referrals to see a specialist typically, while PPO plans do not require referrals. The best Medicare Advantage Plan for your needs will be based on your budget, your current doctors and medications, and your specific situation. If you have any questions please feel free to call or email me - stephanie@abtinsuranceagency.com or 888-465-9728.

HMO Medicare Advantage plans do not require a referral to see an in network specialist. And regardless of whether your Medicare Advantage plan offers Part D or not you still can face a penalty if you did not enroll in a Part D plan when you first became eligible or didn’t have prescriotion coverage that was just as good as the Medicare plan. If you qualify for LIS ( low income subsidy ) or have Medicare and Medicaid, the penalty is waived.

I am considering Medigap in lieu of Advantage. An in-depth analysis says that will cost me $1,000 per year. But. If I look at OuT of Pocket and assume I have a serious health issue then Medigap makes more sense. Over a 10 year span if I get seriously sick my maximum exposure is $45,000 less for medigap for a net $5100 increased cost of Medigap premiums over ten years

I am 61 and on disability. I was told that I would not qualify to buy a medigap plan and if I kept my r/w/b card, I would be responsible for lots of out of pocket. My best and only option, in this person that called me said, is to get an advantage plan. I am coming off medicaid and will have Medicare only. Is that information correct? Also, I am on SLMB with my helping hands. Do I need to buy from my state since I get that helping hand?

It depends on your area- in some locations Medicare Supplement plans are not offered to folks under 65 on Medicare, or the options could be more limited. If that’s the case in your area then you may want to get on a Medicare Advantage Plan in order to help cap your out of pocket Medicare costs. What is your zip code? Additionally once you turn 65 you’ll have a new Medicare Supplement “open enrollment period “ when you can qualify for any Medigap plan you’d like without any medical underwriting if you’d like to switch back to original Medicare at that time and add a Supplement. If you ever have any questions please let me know! Stephanie@abtinsuranceagency.com

There are Medicare Supplements available to people under 65 in your area, but the rates are higher than they would be if you were 65 +. For example, a Plan N Medicare Supplement would be over $200/month for you currently, while the rates for the same Plan N for a 65 year old start at about $78/month. Depending on your needs and your budget you may want to consider a Medicare Advantage Plan as an alternative. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to get you some more specific information about your options.

What about the ‘disappearance’ of Medicare supplement F in 2020? Will I be able to switch to another supplement (like supplemen G, for example), and how do I go about it?
@AbtInsuranceAgency
@AbtInsuranceAgency 5 лет назад
Medicare Supplement Plan F is not exactly "disappearing", but it will no longer be offered to new Medicare beneficiaries as of year 2020 or later. So if you have a Plan F now, you will be grandfathered in forever, as long as you continue to pay your premium. However, many folks are looking to get away from Plan F due to the high rate increases on Plan F that will likely become even higher after 2020. You can switch to a Plan G or Plan N, ect. at ANY time during the year, but typically you will have to go through medical underwriting in order to qualify to change. Please let me know if you'd like Plan G or Plan N quotes and I'd be happy to get you some rates based on your age and your zip code! Stephanie@abtinsuranceagency.com or (888) 465-9728

Which is better would depend on the circumstances of the beneficiary. For some a supplement ( if they can afford)is more suitable and for others it is the advantage plan. You can do only original medicare. And you can opt out of Part B and Part D. But just because you can, doesn't mean it's a good, sound idea. If you only do original medicare, you still have a 20% medical liability. If you realize that liability on your own, on an expensive medical procedure, you'll wish you had a supplement or MA plan. The reason that good Medicare agents have long careers is because many people make poor decisions on their own. You can weed through all of the material and try to make an informed decision. But an agent has spent close to 200 hours getting certified, appointed and studying the plans that are presented. Some of us have software programs designed to put in your data and score the available plans by most appropriate for each client. And there is absolutely no advantage to doing any of that on your own, because your cost will be the same with or without the agent helping you.

@george3737 4 года назад
@@matthewroussel9674 you are right that Part A has a deductible and co-insurance too, not just part B. My point was the Medicare reimbursement rates are so low, it is hard to run up a big bill. @davidyoung6331 4 года назад
Sorry, Stephanie, but you missed some huge, critical differences. A) If you have an "advantage plan" then everything that you need requires prior authorization from the insurance plan. See a specialist? You need prior authorization. Get a CT scan? need prior auth. Have a special test done on the pathology specimen? Need prior auth. Every time the prior auth takes a week to two weeks. But, the scan or special test may be denied as well. Can't get that spine MRI that your orthopedist wanted.... authorization was denied. Although authorization may take a few weeks, they add up. Find a lump under your arm? Takes four weeks to see your primary physician. Then it takes a week for authorization for a chest CT scan. But then it takes 4 weeks for the contracted radiologist to do the scan. Then a week for authorization to see a surgeon. Then three weeks to see the surgeon. Surgeons says... "just get a needle biopsy under radiology" . Takes 3 weeks to get that done. Pathology shows melanoma, so need authorization to see an oncologist. Oncologist wants a special test done on the pathology. Needs a week for authorization. Then it takes a week for the pathologist to get the authorization. But then the specimen must be sent to a different lab and they want their own authorization... that takes another two weeks. Furthermore, as part of a medicare advantage plan you don't have a choice of labs and you don't have a choice of radiologist. The labs are drawn locally but done at a lab hundreds of miles away... so simple labs take longer to get back. The radiology group is capitated, so they don't make more money by doing more exams.... so they delay exams and there is often a 4 to 5 week wait. You have no choice, however. And some contracted specialists, like gastroenterologists do nothing but endoscopies and don't give any advice. And it can get worse than this. Please, Stephanie... there needs to be transparency here. You are not telling the whole story.

All of the negative press against these types of medications caused me to stop taking them. I started taking back injections every 3 months, that is most that I could take. I would take them every day if I could. I never had an issue with Govt medicare they always paid for these injections, the cost for these is less than the cost for pills. Medicare Advantage paid for injections one time and then began denying services and I had to either go back on pain pills or pay for them myself. I called to question why these injections were denied and was told that they never deny any claim. After digging into this I found that they hired a go between company to approve or deny services to the people they insure. This ploy allows them to say they deny nobody services, What a sham this is, from my experiences I would never get into another Advantage plan.

MUCH information was left out. This video leads one to believe that a "Supplement" plan is much better. That is NOT necessarily true. I just switched from a Supplement plan to an HMO plan. My Supplement plan "F" was increasing to about $250 a month, and I am only 72. My new HMO plan is $0 a month (that's ZERO), and I have an annual MAXIMUM out-of-pocket of $1,000. I have NEVER had Part D (Rx coverage), so I also have to pay about $54 a month penalty. I STILL am saving about $1.500 a year IF I end up getting very sick and have to pay MANY co-pays. If I DON'T get sick, I COULD save as much as $3,000 for the year. That's worth being restricted to some of their rules, I'd say. Where I live I won't even have to change Primary Care Physician, Hospital, or ER. Something to consider BEFORE choosing or staying with a Supplemental plan.

The estimate is 33 trillion and is LOWER than what we pay currently over the same 10 year period, with 83 million Americans either with no insurance of under insured. The 33 trillion would cover EVERYONE with comprehensive insurance. Tell me..since you like to talk about costs. How much did the Wall St bailout cost, when they illegally gambled away our money and crashing the economy? What is the budget of the military industrial complex again ( how much is wasted) according to the Pentagon's own FOIA requested budget documents? ( 125 billion a year wasted) How about all those never ending wars? How about Trump's 1.3 trillion tax cut to the rich and corporations?. You really want to talk about 'cost' Healthcare needs to be seen as a human right, LIKE EVERY OTHER INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRY ON EARTH that has a form of universal single payer healthcare.

The system covers everyone with better coverage and COST LESS. Bernie's plan will also cover VISION, DENTISTRY, MENTAL HEALTH and even HEARING AIDS. All for a lower cost than our current system. You have to understand that are two types of taxes.. Governmental taxes and PRIVATE TAXES ( In this case private taxes are Premiums, copays and other out of pocket costs) 85 million Americans are uninsured or just as importantly under insured. 530,000 Americans go bankrupt every year (with medical bankruptcies leading the way) If you are stuck in a job you hate, but can't leave it because of your heath care plan, you can get another job with out that worry. It will also take the companies you work for, using healthcare a negotiation tool for new contracts off the table , which would lead to negotiations for things like....HIGHER WAGES. This question here is this... Why would you not want this? "Who pays for it"? You still do , but will actually pay less, because your governmental tax will be less than the private tax you are paying to the healthcare insurance providers. Let me ask you this Kevin. Have you ever went on one single youtube comment area about Trump's 1.2 trillion tax break for the wealthy and corporations and ask ' How did we pay for that?' www.businessinsider.com/bernie-sanders-medicare-for-all-plan-cost-save-money-2018-7

The Democrats' version of Advantage Plans. Your doctor and you will no longer have any say in what your treatment will be or where or by whom. It will come down to whatever is cheaper so that insurance companies can keep as much money as they can. And, besides, "ALL" did not work all of their lives and have Medicare taken from their paychecks. I'm all for "Healthcare for All", but leave Medicare out of it. Once it is lumped in with other programs, Medicare will be the first to go. Do you see any other "entitlement" programs being cut? Just my opinion as how I see things.
