www.abtinsuranceagency.com | (888) 465-9728. Turning 65 and going onto Medicare? This video explains Medicare basics that you need to know before you turn 65. Medicare Part A is your hospital coverage (usually free), Medicare Part B is your doctor/medical coverage (typically costs $134/month). Parts A and B make up "Original Medicare". Part C is also known as Medicare Advantage , and is an optional way to receive Medicare coverage - not a mandatory part of Medicare. Part D is your Rx coverage.
Once you have Medicare Parts A and B, you have two main options on how to get your Medicare coverage. The first option is to keep "Original Medicare", and add a Part D Rx Plan, and possibly a Medicare Supplement Plan as well. The second option is to get a Medicare Part C/Medicare Advantage Plan, which essentially serves as a Medicare replacement plan. There are pros and cons to either option, and it's important to ask yourself a few important questions before you make your decision.
