Join me for a quick look at a fantastic event! It's part historical Artisan Showcase, part Arts/Science Fair, and part Show-and-Tell. If that sounds like fun, check it out and consider joining us next year 😃
For more information about the event I went to, check out the event page here: baronyofmadrone...
For anyone curious about what exactly the 'SCA' is -- "The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international living history group with the aim of studying and recreating mainly Medieval European cultures and their histories before the 17th century." Read more about it here: socsen.sca.org/...

The SCA was part of my life for over thirty years. Arthritis has curtailed my participation. No events for me. This is a reminder of "the good old days.

This does make me wish I was over on the Left Coast. I'm a Midrealmer. Signed, taking a mundane cartoon drawing course so that my dysgraphic self can draw the Gaston Phoebus Book of the Hunt-style illuminations that I want to do. The SCA also taught me to spin, ply yarn, do fingerloop braiding, and cook and serve a six course feast for 150 of my closest friends.

What a wonderfull idea, to make such a kind of Art/Science Fair! I was at many medieval markets. There are opportunities for them all over here in Germany. But I've lost interest in them long ago, because of all the tourists, the cheap made souvenirs and the immense shallowness. But this video, this fair... there is deepness in the creation, passion.

I just saw this and your SCA camping vlog today and was reminded of a day in college: the decorating committee for the local SCA group came to me in a panic because they wanted a marble pillar upon which to place the royal goblet but only had a white plaster replica. So, I started painting it, and soon, it became the focus of a pre-event painting party as friends joined in to help. When we were done, others thought the pillar was marble. :)

New York City is part of the SCA East Kingdom. Check them out at www.eastkingdom.org/# and take a look at the events that are on the schedule. Anyone can come to an SCA event as long as they're willing to look the part, and there is always loaner garb (ask for "Gold Key" garb). You should come and check us out sometime! If you're willing to leave the city, there's an event coming up very soon on July 20th in Tappan. www.eastkingdom.org/EventDetails.php?eid=3455

Omgosh we so need one of these in Phoenix! Every February through mid March there is a huge Renaissance fair. While there are lots of local venders, a lot of the time they are too busy trying to sell their products to as many people as possible to make up for the cost of a booth, there is little time to actually get to know what their craft is all about. Something like this would be so much easier to get to know what their craft is all about and maybe get a chance to sell some good to get a jump on Ren fair. Help get everyone in the mood.
@deathbright107
@deathbright107 5 лет назад
I just moved to Phoenix and I'm seeing some things. There's a atenveldt, it seems that's Phoenix's SCA. There's a whole week of historical camping that isn't the renfair. And please don't bash the merchants at a renfair because like anyone they want to make a living too. I make leather goods, but it's super hard to be seen online.

estrellawar is the week line camp one
@alanarose4577
@alanarose4577 5 лет назад
@@deathbright107 Atenveldt is the SCA kingdom in AZ. I used to live there. The week long event is Estrella War and it's REALLY fun to go to. (Don't worry about ren faire merchants. If it's anything like An Tir, the PNW kingdom, there is a lot of merchant cross over from SCA, ren faire and other medieval and fantasy groups!)
@SimpleDesertRose
@SimpleDesertRose 5 лет назад
@@deathbright107 I am not bashing anyone. What I am getting at is Ren fair is very busy. Lots of people want to buy things and move on. It makes it difficult to someone selling their trade to give you a run down on the historical significance when there were 20 people at your booth eyeing your goods, asking questions and wanting to put these things. I love fair, I may not be a vender but I do know many people who sell crafts. It's hard to sell your wares and to give a single person your undivided attention. So if you are looking to start a fight with someone then I suggest you find someone else.
