An archetypal late Medieval/early Tudor Great Hall. The model is inspired by halls still in existence today in England and Wales from this period. I have furnished it according to the status of someone of lower Nobility/high Clergy or perhaps a wealthy merchant.
The model was produced using Blender, Sketchup, Photoshop and put together in Unity5.

Great work, you captured the Medieval essence brilliantly. I can almost smell the pork on spite!

This great hall actually looks alot smaller then the great hall which was depicted in Harry Potter however historically castles building and the rooms in them do not really have as large dimensions which are typically shown in movies and fiction in medieval times alot of the areas of a castle were typically pretty narrow and were designed to prevent large amounts of people from being able to move through it that fast all at once.Castle as opposed to palaces we're military structures and were not meant for luxury or person comfort and this is something which would have influenced the build and structure of a castle.

Castles were often palaces in their own right and were often very opulent. I actually downplayed the level of luxury you could expect in early tudor living quarters and there are many halls much larger than this. I live near several castles with huge great halls. In terms of luxury Eltham is a good example. www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/eltham-palace-and-gardens/history/

the walls are way to white. Medival castles typically had their walls painted on the inside very colorfully

Um hold on. Medieval great halls didn’t have chimneys. They had Center fire place in the middle of the room and where is the dais for the lords chair and table that set him above the rest?

In England there are quite a few late Medieval Halls with chimneys and fire places, such as the hall at Great Chalfield Manor and Apethorpe Palace. www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/apethorpe-palace/ Not all 'Lords' would sit on a raised Dais in the hall. A wealthy Merchant or high Clergy could live in house with a great hall which could be used for entertaining and dining. Trestle tables would often be arrayed into a 'U' shape. The head of the house would be at the centre but not necessarily physically raised above other guests.

@@DextraVisual They had chimneys - many of them did. Only the earlier Saxon or Norman halls had the fire in the center of the hall.

I am just interested to find out where you get your sources from guys? I see you are using Unity5 and 3coat for scripting and rendering, but I am talking about historical sources. I am really enjoying your interpretations, but it looks like you have a really strong knowledge base too which is a very rare combination. In Lost Treasures we used to work with Take27 who were also knew their history.

Thank you Keith. I constantly have my nose in historical books and articles, especially local History. I try to research as much as possible for each project but there are always things I discover or want to change regarding historical accuracy. Lost Treasures was great. Loved the Meols viking ship episode. Take27 are very accurate and have done some gorgeous work.

Sorry it was Take 27! Yes that was the most interesting one as far as I was concerned too. Also the Norse hogback stone in my birthplace of Bidston. Keep it going and I will try to share your work as regularly as possible.
