Its brilliant to see images like this. I often wonder what certain areas would have looked like say 1,2,3 hundred years ago and see the changes by 100 year intervals etc.
Roman footing, (along a certain stretches on three sides) Then a phase of Saxon extension of the walls to the river and several phases of medieval modifications. Civil War Strengthening/Repair. Then Georgian, Victorian and other modern alterations.
These videos are very good. Great to see somewhere I'm familiar with, as it was in the past. I know you are using old drawings and a degree of interpretation. How accurate do you think they are? I would love to see an overlay of the same places as they are today. Fabulous videos. Thank you.
Excelente documental. No hizo falta narración, ya que la sola imagen nos transporta a otra época. Gracias por el trabajo. Saludos desde Guayaquil, Ecuador.
I love local history, Buckley not to far from me about 8-9 mile away in Wrexham, I have got Buckley blue bricks in my garden wall mixed in with another local bricks ,Dennis of Ruabon other wise know as Ruabon Red bricks. Great video
I still have a few of the bullets and spent cartridge cases that we dug out of the sand dune behind the bungalow we spent our summer holidays in in the 1950s and early 60s. Some pill boxes were still standing on the beach then. It was a magic place.
Hello Barry! I spent all my hols with the family at the same time. Our bungalow was called Overleigh. It was directly opposite the green corrugated mission hut adjacent to the sandy path to the beach from tyn y Moria lane. What great times we had!
Spent a huge amount of time there. Picnics with friends and family. Great times growing up feeling safe in the community. We would meet up with local lads there for funtimes.💑
This great hall actually looks alot smaller then the great hall which was depicted in Harry Potter however historically castles building and the rooms in them do not really have as large dimensions which are typically shown in movies and fiction in medieval times alot of the areas of a castle were typically pretty narrow and were designed to prevent large amounts of people from being able to move through it that fast all at once.Castle as opposed to palaces we're military structures and were not meant for luxury or person comfort and this is something which would have influenced the build and structure of a castle.
Castles were often palaces in their own right and were often very opulent. I actually downplayed the level of luxury you could expect in early tudor living quarters and there are many halls much larger than this. I live near several castles with huge great halls. In terms of luxury Eltham is a good example. www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/eltham-palace-and-gardens/history/
Great film. Shows what a superb defensive location Flint had. Very difficult (maybe impossible) to undermine, its own well for water and re-supply opportunities by boat.
