Spectacular Medieval Jousting tournament re-enacted at Hever Castle by The Knights Of Royal England.
A colourful, action-packed spectacle of courage, strength and skill performed by the Knights of Royal England in the events field, in the grounds of the historic and picturesque Hever Castle, in Kent. This film shows highlights from the authentic jousting tournament, combat displays and sword fights.
A thrilling and enjoyable show suitable for all the family, which is held annually, during the summer months.
Transport yourself back in time to the most favourite form of Medieval entertainment, an exciting and colourful pageant where you can watch mounted knights charging towards each other on their destriers, at up to 40 miles per hour, using lances to defeat and hopefully dismount their opponents. Medieval jousting tournaments were the training grounds for Knights of the Middle ages but were also great entertainment for the local people.
The Knights of Royal England are one of the premiere jousting companies in Europe and perform at a number of venues each year, including the annual Jousting Tournament at the beautiful Hever Castle where visitors can witness a spectacular 90 minute display of action, stunts, falls and fights in an authentic arena.
The Knights use the same breed of horses as were used in mediaeval times, which came from Spain and Portugal, Andalusians and Lusitanos. The riding and training of these horses has changed little over the past 7-800 years.
Hever Castle
The castle situated in idyllic countryside has a rich history and formed the backdrop to some of the events that changed the course of Britain's history. The oldest part of the Castle dates back to 1270 and consisted of the gatehouse and a walled bailey. In the early 1500s the Boleyn family bought the Castle and added a Tudor dwelling within the walls and so it became the childhood home of its most famous inhabitant, Anne Boleyn. Anne became King Henry Vlll's second wife and Queen of England. Later the castle passed into the ownership of Henry's fourth wife, Anne of Cleves. From 1557 onwards the Castle was owned by a number of families until in 1903, William Waldorf Astor restored the Castle and created the gardens and lake, which you can enjoy today.
Hever Castle is located in Hever, near Edenbridge, Kent, England.

I think its because that the reason chariots were even a thing was because horses were so weak, they needed two to pull one person in a chariot. Now that were "hopefully" out of prehistoric times, horses are dang strong. So do the same thing with modern horses and.... all i can say is good luck!

@@NihilIslands Really depends on region and exact period. Late medieval and early modern jousting had all those ideas of chivalry ect. (just as romantized as today) , but High medieval tournaments were basically just arranged battles where knights fought each other in groups for real and tried to capture each other so they could demand ransom money.

There's probably no point in caring, but in 0:59 the arms should have the fleur de lis in the top left and leopard in top right on account of the top left is dominant. When Edward iii invaded France to stake his claim to the crown he quartered his arms with the fleur de lis dominant to emphasize his supposed birthright.

Horses need head protection. Imagine skewering one of those beauties in the eye. Also two guys flailing at each other without helms. These folks are great ...but they, and the animals, are not being as well protected as in medieval times. I'm a Prevot d' Armes of the USFA..just saying...

If you really want to see a spectacular joust you should visit the Kaltenberger Rittertunier. It´s the best joust in the world performed by the French stunt group Cavalcade, the only group that specializes on the joust and can do it realistic. Yes, its choreographed, but it is still a thousand times more impressive than this and I bet they could do it a hindred times better than these guys (yes, I know, Cavalcade does this for a living, these guys don't) Having been to Kaltenberg at least half a dozen times (if not more), I didn't know if to cry, shake my head, roll on the floor laughing, or die of boredom when I watched this video. They never really hit each other! On top of that the horses are nearly trotting not galloping! Let me describe Cavalcades joust for you. The two knight line up on either side of the arena. The knights lower their lances and the horses accelerate to FULL speed (very fast, mostly when the horse is called Allegro). Then they actually hit each other (the shield of course), parts of lances go flying everywhere. If you think, oh its just some kind of trick, trust me (or if you don't (understandable) go to Kaltenberg) its not. The crash of lance on shield is extremely loud and proves that they actually hit each other with tremendous force (even if the lances are made out of soft wood). Depending on the plan, they sometimes "manage" to stay on their horses (though not without difficulty), sometimes they fall off (with the forces involved there´s not much acting there) and sometimes they, well, throw themselves off their horse, if they didn't get hit quite hard enough. And every once in a while someone gets dragged through the arena behind their horse ;). Otherwise there are quite a few other things going on including ground fighting, show riding and action. Around the arena is a medieval market and stages where jugglers, entertainers (anyone know the best translation for Gaukler?) and musicians perform before and after the joust. If anyone wants to see a bit of Cavalcade´s work just watch the movie "A Knights Tale" or the TV-Series "Merlin". All the jousting in both is done by Cavacade. They have done many jousts in movies and tv-series. If you want to know if they did it in a certain one just ask :) (I don't bite) Any other questions (or suggestions to good jousts in the world) please just ask!
