And the refrain: Hoy et oe Maledicantur tilie iuxta viam posite= Hoy and oe! shame upon the linden trees that stand beside the road! or O dear o dear! Damned linden tree by the path!
the ren faire is full of just girls cosplaying as elves and guys cosplaying as some sort of steampunk thing you will hear songs that are not even medieval im sure no one there knows true medieval history
@@eggdog2689 supposedly its about someone loosing their innocence. comments say could be girl, could be guy, could be consensual, could be not. Not to sure.
As a native german speaker I can say, it's not really about rape yet the song is not a very happy one and rather it's ment for foolish young girls (in my eyes also for any young and unexperienced individual) who should learn to make wiser decisions and think about the consequences their actions may have. As such the song is very educational as it gives important advice. So really everybody should be thankful that our friend arany uploaded this by the way very beautiful piece of music.
"do wolde mich ein ungetan ibi deflorare." "There, a monster (Ungetuem) wanted to deflower me." - "Er warf mir uof daz hemdelin corpore detecta er rante mir in daz purgelin cuspide erecta." "He took off my robe, my body was bare, he rammed his spear into my crotch." It most certainly is about rape. I have no idea how you can say it's not really about rape.

Arany Zoltán this is perfect as well as In taberna quando sumus and Palästinalied. I love all of it. Can you also make Full Palästinalied. I mean to sing all verses if possible for you
Brilliant!!! Shut your eyes and you can just see, and feel, the horse rider galloping across the countryside, bearing news of the Carolingian Succession to the small towns of Mediaeval Europe
Whereas now we can't say if she is a girl, or what her/his/its/them pronouns are, or does they't identify as some other animal altogether. Wow what progress we've made in the past 800 years. @MrSomebody-zh3cc
Have been thinking... This song could be satirical review of human relations in those time, and even sing by females as song for fun of adultery since any decent free woman at the time surely would be forced into the intercourse outside marriage -and it doesn't even say in the song that intercourse have been violent in extend. If we think, at those time it was expected for woman to not give consent even if she wanted to. All depends on the culture and language, could be wrong.
Eight centuries ago - at the height of the power of the Roman Church - someone makes an innocent profane music. Today, the music offends the politically correct moral and is interpreted as an advocacy of rape. What a time to live!
the moral is "don't throw your virginity away from some chad you found on the road". this is, clearly, an unacceptable message for modern society. women shouldn't ever blamed or take responsibility for their mistakes.
I'm not pagan, but a lot of things associated with medieval Christianity has "pagan" (i.e European) origins: - Chivalry and Honour comes from pagan Germanic warriors - Cathedrals: mix of Roman architecture and Germanic mysticism - Pope: Pontifex Maximus, who was originally the chief high priest of Roman paganism - Arthurian legends: Celtic pagan tales - Knightly chansons de geste: a mix of Germanic sagas and Hellenic tales - Of course manhood too, which is forbidden by Christianity that even promotes castration (Matthew, XIX : 12) Etc. They were very bad Christians.

Nice song! By the way, I have a question about your pieces of music. The music (video) you upload is your remix of "actual" medieval music? or just medieval style music which released after 1950? I mean the original songs you used still have copyright? Since I wanted to put that music at my work. Of course, that would be the distant future for me.
It's Middle High German (ca 1050 - 1350 AD). Originally Middle High and Middle Low German and Middle Dutch had "was". In Early New High German "war" emerged as alternative to "was" but not in all dialects resp. chancery languages. Luther chose "war" over "was" for his Bible translation. So Luther's German literate language Hochdeutsch which is the precursor of modern Standard German got "war" instead of "was" and that use expanded also to German dialects.
