Sonata Idyll was composed 1935-37 at the beginning of Medtner's residence in London shortly before WW2. Malcolm Binns (b1936) during the 1970/1980s was noted for his advocacy of several of the major works. He toured extensively and gave many Henry Wood Promenade performances, and BBC broadcasts from his extensive virtuoso repertoire. Another area of his repertoire concerned British composers, also performances on earlier keyboard instruments such as pianos of Beethoven and Chopin's era.
