I prefer the version Ovid wrote down: that the Gorgon Sisters--Euryale, Medusa, and Stheno--were the daughters of the sea-god Phorcys (some say Poseidon) and the sea-goddess Ceto. In some versions of the myth, Medusa was their half-sister, born of a mortal man; hence how Perseus was able to slay her, since Euryale and Stheno were full-fledged goddesses. In the legend, Ceto boasted that her lovely daughters were more beautiful than the goddesses of Olympus, and Athena punished both Ceto and her daughters by turning them into Gorgons, cursing them with such unspeakable hideousness that the very sight of their faces would turn men to stone. The myth of Perseus and Medusa is a tale of pride and hubris--and the punishments for boasting and rising above one's place in the cosmos. I should mention that I like the versions you presented, but you should have also presented the more elaborated version preserved by Ovid.

You forgot to say that sword was made by Hephaestusю 9:22 , the God of the forge and fire. Medusa’s head was later affixed to Athena’s shield and became what we call in Russian - эгидa or protection. Perseus and Hercules were the greatest Greek heroes.
Thanks for adding those details! The craftsmanship of Hephaestus and Medusa’s head on Athena’s shield are two important aspects of this myth. I appreciate your insight.
