It's actually 8. The part where the snakes wrap around the branch shows 7 snake heads. I WANT to say that with Medusa as the 8th head, they're making a subtle reference to the Japanese myth of Orochi the 8 headed serpent. Course, I'm likely wrong and this is just me being a bit of a weeb.
I love how all the snakes have their own unique design, they could’ve all looked the same but you went the extra mile to make them all look distinct!! I will never get enough of your work
@@KediNeedsFirstAid Yeah, this man’s been working on animated movies since the 80s, and was a part of the Disney golden age of animation. I don’t know what generation they’re talking about, but with a name like Juice-kun I find it hard to believe they mean millennials or GenZ
@@babytricep437 Yeah, I get they’re boring and barely have anything to do with the video. But with that like count, if anyone checks the replies I can educate people on the topic. And by the looks of it, I reached 40 people’
There was an episode from a Disney animated series _Hercules_ where Medusa had a crush on the titular character after saving him from drowning in a river. Medusa in this series, unlike her other stereotypical portrayals, had a sweet and bubbly personality.
@@razer666L I understand why most depictions make her monstrous or angry as it's a justifiable response to being cursed after getting secually assaulted by a god, but having her make friends with her snakes and refuse to be cruel would make the whole situation hurt more
@@shealupkes They should make it so she sees Perseus coming at her place , realizes he is a young boy and offer to team up against Athena , the Sea Monster and the dudes perving on his mom .
I love the perspective of the myth where her ability to turn people into stone by looking at them is considered a blessing after what she was a victim of. She deserves to have a movie about her
Damn, this'd make for one heck of a protagonist! Medusa always felt like the real victim in the original myths, so I'd love to see an adventure movie where she tries to undo her curse!
I think that this was for a Sony animated movie made by Lauren Faust, the creator of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, called Medusa that was in development alongside a Popeye movie and another one about imagination made by the same guy who produced Hotel Transylvania and the Grimm Adventures of Billy and Mandy. They were all canned by the then new chief in charge of the animation department in favor of The Emoji Movie, and we all know how THAT went.
@@WobblesandBean The only good thing that came out of this was the fact that after the movie flopped the chief was replaced due to the movie being a pr and commercial disaster and the new boss greenlighted Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse because they really wanted to clean their very negative image
She feels so alive with those smooth movements and reactions! It actually makes me feel like I'm watching some of my old favorite animated movies like Hercules, Atlantis, Iron Giant, and Road to El Dorado
You just breathe life into everything you animate, you’re able to communicate so much character in just a 17 second clip, along with how Medusa interacts with her hair. Just feels so real and authentic, human made
The amount of pure character that this single animation exudes is something that is VERY difficult to get right in, not just animation, but art in general!
Let's see: excellent character design, great animation, and a cast of quirky characters! Why can't Disney make something this good! You already have us hooked in less than 30 seconds!
All the little snakes having their own look gives me life💕💕 The animation is incredible as well, reminds me of Tarzan with the smooth action shots and background panning
The amount of detail is nuts! The weight of movement, the expressions, the fact that each individual snake has it's own desire and personality.deserving of the Chef's kiss. Awesomely done.
I don't know how he like many others before him has such the patience to make such great works of animation. I strive to learn and be better, love your work as always!
The interaction with the background, the facial expressions, the fluidity and incredible execution of the principles of animation. This is just so impressive. Definitely going to be coming back to this video to study it for my own animations more than once.
I absolutely adore your animation style, just vibrant with life and charisma. I especially loved how the other snakes appear to glare at the one who got caught on the branch! It makes me want to learn more about how they interact with each other and Medusa - such fantastic visual storytelling, I can only dream to reach a fraction of your skill 🧡
I'm not sure why but the animation gives me Tarzan vibes based off Medusa's facial expressions and how smooth she swings on the trees with her snake hairs too. It's not only beautiful and inspiring to see how much time & patience artists has to sacrifice but also how inspiring it is for artists out there that are following Disney's footsteps.
this is adorable!!! so much personality and character here - I would love to see more of medusa. i love how much personality the snakes have too, especially with how difficult it must have been to get the weight right with them!!
I’d love to know how long this took to make - knowing that would be a great reference for personal improvement. On another note: GAWD I LOVE THAT CHARACTER DESIGN, all the unique snakes are the cherry on top!
But just take whatever time you need to make it right. Speed is not that important. It only matters to the production folks. Speed is not meaningless, it helps maintain spontaneity, and sometimes I do my best work when I have a deadline, but always quality first.
We got robbed of an amazing movie if this movie would have been made. Just this sketch animation alone make me want to see a whole film about this character with this level of animation.
I always love when Medusa/Medusa based characters have the snakes as their own separate characters. You’re work is absolutely amazing! Thank you for sharing this with us!
I love the vibe you gave her- so naive and willing to learn- people never put this spin in her after she was cursed!!!!! Also smooth ad heck with great style too
i love how all the snakes look at the one snake after it wraps around the branch! That's so cute! Esp because they all seem to have different personalities/designs
This is crazy, I love how created a whole different personality for Medusa while still taking the unique idea of snakes for hair. Also the animation is crazy smooth
I just realized when that one snake wraps around the tree and Medusa can’t walk forward, ALL the other snakes immediately look at the last one like, “Dude.”
this is actually such a cool concept, medusa is a vibrant young goddess , falls in love and is cursed because her true love can never look her in the eyes and see her face
You're a legend, James. You're the #1 reason I can draw horses - I used to watch your Spirit tutorial on the DVD extras over and over and over again, practicing and practicing until I had every word memorised. I still hear some of your words echoing in my ears when I draw them now 😂
