Most of us keep iguanas in a cage for safety and security, but my friend Larry keeps his iguana like a house cat or dog free in the backyard!

I have been wanting to comment on your video's for awhile now, been following for over a year. This video just was the day to comment. I am 73 yr's old and I am living all my dreams through these video's. I've always been an animal lover. When I got married at 18 I had to get rid of my alligator before my guy would marry me. Should have known then ! At that time you could buy them in pet stores in Milw. Wi. Now at 73 I have a tortoise and a bearded dragon plus a host of other animals. I live in Mn. now and it isn't feasible to have animals outside year round. When I watch your video's it's like I'm in another world for awhile, a world that I so wanted years ago. They make me happy, but I wish I could do things over again ! Keep up the good work and the education !

9:49 So true! My love of animals led me to look into potential animal-related careers as a preteen. My favorite was animal photographer. Over 15 years later, it didn’t end up as my career, but I’ve got a good camera and I take a lot of macro nature pics. I’m experimenting with pet photography now.

Hey, this male looks like he is offspring of my somewhat famous Cuban iguana, Raul. The era of his birth is consistent. RAUL died last year at the age of about 37 years old. He was a resident of Finca Cyclura for 32 years and bred with three different females producing many of the purebred Cuban iguanas in the US today. Robert Ehrig

we have 2 bedrooms and a free range beardie in each bedroom lol after they wake yp, we feed then put them in shallow tub, seperately of course, n they poo in the water, n want out, then the doodles go down the drain, a lil cleanin w bakin soda n vinegar for the tub, n were usually good for poos for the day, bout as close to potty train as u can get a beardie, rarely a 2nd poo, unless jts an active summer day on the road but we def keep disposable pads for times theyre sittin on the bed n didnt poo yet. Ginsu we got in 2017 and KL we rescued in 2018. my chinese water dragon, Lokiana was my first reptile i was lookin on rehome sight for gin pig or hampster n came across the chinese water dragon, in 2016, n that when my love/obsession began. took her everywhere w me, as long as weather permitted. i spend my summers in Mass chillin w my leashed dragons in the hidden around the yard. she has a rad double decker aqua floor terrarium in the living room, which we call the lizard lounge, i love her so much we had to of course rescue more, so i found out my local petco had a neglected rescue, they cares so much for rehabbing neglected pets, when i saw the beardied n they told me he was so starved n dehydrated they thought he was a female i vowwed to never put them in a tank, their tanks actually lay on their sides so the dragon can go in and out when they want, n their lighting suspend from clamps or metal hooks n they can go anywhwere they want in their designated bedroom, all summer they sit in their designated window, n put them selves to bed at night under a basket it or by a lil stuffed animal ssoooo cute. my dragons are a full time job, im lucky to be army retired n spend my days with my drags, xojodia 46, cool mom of 1 cool teen son, 2 cats n 3 dragons is my full boat! i do have room for one more in the kitchen but im tryin to hold off, yo they are alot of work, n expensive, but sooo worth it to me n my son, because we showeed them so much love n care tneir like lil beanie baby stuffies come to life lol i wish i could rescue more and hope to in the future

You aright the baby tortoises are more robust. I love everything you do Kenan and I'm a student studying herpetology and still learn so much from you. This is a time where you're absolutely right but it kind of leads to a contradiction about how you raise your animals. Ive literally watched every single episode and have liked them all, so take this as how amazing you are. There are only two things I've come to disagree with how your raise your animals and both are a result of higher level biology courses teaching me these things. The one relevant here is with your breeding, you always talk about making conservation colonies to have a storage of animals we can release back into the wild when populations are too small. You are the reason it's my dream to have my own institutions dedicated to this, but your conservation colonies are not actually helping as much as you might think. Your animals are all used to human contact, getting steady and proper food, and the babies are incubated. Incubating increases the likely hood of babies hatching, and growing to maturity. This however doesn't change the genetics these babies have. So while they grow up strong and healthy they still can only pass on the genes of a tortoise that was suppose to die. Plus they are only healthy in captivity, they may lack the instinct to survive on their own in the wild. Every reptile breeder does this cause they need the money; however, they are giving baby tortoises to top conservationists to release in the wild saying " look how healthy this tortoise is" but they don't make it in the wild or their offspring are cant make it to sexual maturity. I love everything you do but if you could find a way to cut some losses and raise these babies more naturally, I think you could help bring in NATURALLY healthier animals into the states conservation colonies.

I keep bees at my house and I hardly think the bees will attack the iguanas. I know my bees are specifically docile to a unique degree with some of us checking in on the inside of the hive without a suit and still only rarely ever getting stung. If you think about it, why would they waste all that time and energy on an animal that isn't going to hurt their hive or take their honey. Actually they are very intelligent and can use some animals as an unintentional protector. My cats hunt by the hives a lot because a lot of prey will venture around their cause they can smell the honey and the bees leave them alone when they are sometimes almost on their hives. If Larry still isn't comfortable, which is understandable, Then he can get a bee box, which can get kind of expensive, and move them. If it isn't made of wood or the most expensive box you've ever purchased it was probably a bee catcher. You will need a box Here's how to do it: 1. Remove ALL animals from habitats and get them indoors or well off the property. Arguably 10 miles, but probably not necessary. Inform your neighbors and your neighbors neighbors about this so they can stay inside.The bees will most likely swarm and become extremely aggressive. When the swarm they will also be very loud, like big lawn mower loud. 2. Place bee box where you want it. 3. Put on suit and go into their hive and get the queen. Might want to find a beekeeper to help, they will be able to find her. 4. Move the queen to the bee box. The bees will get very aggressive now because if the queen dies the hive dies, so to them its like open heart surgery. 5. Once the queen is in the hive put some of their wax, their honey, and bee pheromone in the box to make it more appealing to them. 6. Get yo butt inside and hope they take it, IDK how long this could take TBH, could be awhile possibly. Easier but less successful way: 1. 2. Place bee hive where you want it. Bait bee catcher with bee pheromone and place it next to their hive. Hopefully they they decide to move the queen into the catcher and when they do it will get loud because they will all swarm to protect the queen. They will make a big ball of bees that carry the queen by flight to the new home. don't be alarmed if they start bearding, clustering together, in trees. The bees are not as likely to move if their current hive is still ideal, so could take awhile or may not happen. Most people use this when their hive has been destroyed far away from a bee box. 3. Once bees have moved the queen into the bee catcher move the catcher to the bee box. It would be a good idea to take their wax and honey and put it in the bee box now. This will send "scents" to them that this is already selected home by the hive. 4. This one will have a lot of waiting. This tactic is only really ever used when a wild hive is miles away and even then more serious keepers will still take the queen. We've had very little success with this with our success rate being well below .500. The bees will help your plants grow which could be beneficial to the animals if they eat any of them. If the hobby, it is very common for bees to swarm out of no where, cant really prevent it just minimize the chances of it happening. Swarming is when they all leave the hive and form a cloud of bees in hopes to move the queen. They may swarm if their hive gets too full of honey so extracting honey can be good for them to not swarm. The bee community like the herpetology community is a tight net group of people that can be very fun to be apart of. Bees have been found to have many uses especially in their venom. However, there are people read something on the internet or hear something word to mouth and they think bees can cure anything. We have one in Saint Louis and Ive been on a one man mission to stop her. She has no biological related degree, much less a medical license, and she goes around to conventions with some of her bees and stings anyone that has a medical complaint. Its extremely dangerous if you do not have a true understanding of the bee's venom or a medical license worth of knowledge to do something if something goes wrong. She has stung well over a thousand people and claims she has helped cure certain arthritides. I don't believe anyone has died and obviously beekeepers want to believe that bees are the greatest thing ever so she is still out there, lurking.

@jenetikitty
@jenetikitty 4 года назад
It is a little -- but I don't think he means badly by it. I think it's probably a biologist thing: observing animals in the wild, you probably are not usually sure what sex an animal is, so, it would be more correct to say 'it' rather than use a pronoun that implies a gender. Someone else may later read the observations and see the observations as some sort of proof/indication of the animal's sex, rather than someone using "more comfortable" english. It seems pretty weird to us our here in the rest of the world, but I think it's pretty normal. Now, you want to know what's weird to me? People who have pets with no name. Like a recognizable, specific animal, not, say, a school of fish or whatever.
@henrygong9273

@@henrygong9273 I getcha :) We usually say 'it' to indicate something is lesser-- we don't usually call other human beings 'it' in English, unless we're being rude. So, I was actually focusing on the "is it weird?" part :)
@laartje24
@laartje24 4 года назад
I am a biologist and I noticed the it thing too so I started using they. It sounds a little more friendly towards the animal. But a lot of people indeed say it, not because they don't respect the animal but to not get confused about an unknown gender.

Oh ya you're all about conservation huh Kenan. Ya let's teach the kids it's ok to let your non native species free roam. You live in Florida so you know how big if a problem this could be. Not only that but in this video you promoted letting domestic cats free roam which is also not ok.

I know this is SUPER petty, but why does he refer to his pet as "it"?

It would be really weird if he just kept repeating his name instead of calling him "it". I bet you call your dog by many things other than its name.

@@theadventure4683 mostly i call him boe boe but yes from time to time i call him the dog in which he is a dog.. You have to treat your animal as they are.. meaning breed or species.. You cant treat them as if they are humans especially dogs they can become very Territorial and dominant..

@@matthewowens687 what you said doesn't make much sense. You said that you can't anthropomorphize your dog, but you do by giving it a name, house, food, water etc. I don't believe anthropomorphizing animals is a bad thing. If humans didnt anthropomorphize animals we wouldnt care about animals suffering because they would be the same as robots In our mind. I dont know why I went on this rant, sorry about that 😄

Larry lives in Florida? A python could crawl into the hole and snag the iguana.

Meh. I wouldn't call this secure. At all. But it's his animal. If he's happy with it, it's none of my business.
