I know it seems like they just have these animals as pets but actually these people own a petting zoo and exotic animal park. They take very good care of all of their animals and have proper set ups and housing for each animal they own. Their pets are family to them.

But pets of exotic animals often come from being poached, or from farms. and regular people have no experience with these wild animals, they often want them because thier unique.

I feel so broken by this show,the care the vets give is amazing. I dont agree with any of these animals being used in petting zoo's what about making their wild homes safer. I wish people could spend the money supporting projects in the wild

The show is here also to educate and hopefully give these owners some information they may have not know. These animals will be bought regardless of the show, but its better to educate at the same time.

I’m not saying it’s ok to own all these exotic and endangered pets or anything like big cats and such but what some people have to realize is that some of these animals where bred in captivity and don’t know how to survive in the wild. This is all they know. The thing that is really terrible is when animals are taken from their habitat.
@vettechgeekgirl3559
@vettechgeekgirl3559 5 лет назад
Well there in lays the problem. Breeding for profit exists because there is an enormous market for them. Until you no longer accept an excuse like that, there will always be captive bred wild animals for sale. Sanctuaries and conservation groups raise and release orphans... they do know how to survive. That excuse is so harmful.
@51Saffron
@51Saffron 5 лет назад
@@vettechgeekgirl3559 Actually these people do have a wild life park and the animals are well taken care of. The release of orphans is not as successful as you think. Gorillas were released back into the wild and all of them died. Some were missing and likely poached. There are orphaned elephants in Asia that can't be released into the wild because their habitat is being encroached by palm oil plantations, baby elephants often fall the victim of traps and their parents killed. Orangutans are also suffering in Borneo where farmers are making huge money from palm oil. The will actually set habitats on fire to get rid of the orangutans, many are burned and there are thousands of orphaned babies. Africa does have more success at released animals, but Africa is a large continent. Africa has its own problems to contend with when it comes to wild life, bush meat, poaching, etc. Tigers will not be released in southern Asia because of poaching and farmer's killing them, some species are endangered. The Asian market demands bear bile, animal body parts for medicine, none of which make any difference to your health. You have a romanticized view of wild life. The only thing animals care about is food, shelter and breeding. They get that in well managed and environmentally forward thinking zoos. They also live longer in captivity. Some animals have been wiped out from certain regions.

Many people are just fascinated and passionate about exotics. I don't see a problem owning most exotics (nothing extreme like big cats, etc) as long as they've been bred in captivity (not taken from the wild), are provided for with EXTREME care, and have owners that are dedicated to care for them for a lifetime. I would love to own a sloth in the future just because I've always loved them and would love to care for one. I've been fascinated by them since 5th grade and though odds of finding a breeder are slim, if the opportunity ever arises and I had the funds to care for one, I'd do it in a heartbeat. These animals have an amazing life under the right circumstances; they don't have to worry about predators, lack of food, or diseases. Plus, animals bred in captivity depend on humans for survival anyways, so they need owners willing to take on that challenge. Owning an exotic just to "have a cool pet" is obviously an awful thing people do (ex. people owning big cats just to look badass), but if a person is truly dedicated to caring for these animals, there is no harm done in owning them as pets. Just my opinion.

What is the problem with owning exotic pets? Did you know that many animals that are extinct in the wild are still alive today because of Zoos and Regular people who breed them?

Do you know that they start becoming extinct in the wild because of the exotic pet trade?
@stefanrider1669
@stefanrider1669 5 лет назад
In my opinion, I think there isn't a problem with it. The problem happens with inexperienced owners and people who buy from unreliable sources (ex.Poachers). If you buy from special breeders, you can most of the time guarantee a healthy pet that was ethically procured and trustworthy of humans. This is really the only safe way of getting exotic creatures like the Tamandua.

I know they own a petting zoo and exotic park but you have to think of how these animals are obtained. Did someone go out in the forest of South America and poach them then sell them in the illegal exotic animal trade? Can't be an ethical way to end up with these animals.

Anteaters and sloths are not closely related. Not even in the same Genus or Family. Edentates include Armadillos and Anteaters which he was probably thinking about.

Sloths and anteaters are closely related they are xenarthrans.. Education is key 🔑
@Dusto9
@Dusto9 2 года назад
Nope it's the other way around. Sloths and anteaters together form the order of pilosa within the xenarthra superorder. Armadillo's are in the order of cingulata within the xenarthra superorder. That makes anteaters and sloths close relatives, while the armadillo is further away despite their physical similarities.

I don't think it's promoting anything. The vet even said "those claws are for trees not for people!" And she talks about how sharp their claws are and that they're dangerous. Another vet has criticized how easy it is to get monkeys as well. They just are showing all their clients, not necessarily promoting anything.
