Cari Kitahara, senior investigator, and Elisa Pasqual, former postdoctoral fellow, both in the Radiation Epidemiology Branch (REB) in the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG) at the National Cancer Institute, discuss their research on thyroid cancer.
In this video, Cari and Elisa describe their investigation into the late effects of treatment with radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer. These findings are just one example of the important contributions the REB makes to inform long-term follow-up and care of cancer patients and other exposed populations.
The mission of REB is to identify, understand, and quantify the risk of cancer in populations exposed to medical, occupational, or environmental radiation, and to advance understanding of radiation carcinogenesis. REB is the largest radiation epidemiology research group in the world. The REB Dosimetry Unit develops tools to improve the measurement of radiation doses from medical and other exposures. REB also houses the DCEG Cancer Survivorship Research Unit.
