Wow! I was told to look up UK News and was pleased to have found an architect. I believe there are some governmental dwelling renovations being bidded.

Speaking as a hearing person, as I see it, BSL is just as valid as any other language, and is a deaf person's mother tongue (as it were) and should be respected as such. I don't see why a deaf person should have to learn to speak in school, instead of learning more important subjects... of course they may want to learn.. but I would imagine that the amount of effort this takes may not be worth it, compared with studying other things... what difference having cochlea implants makes obviously I have no idea...

I'm not being arrogant but I thought that American Sign Language was used all over the world. But it seems that different countries have their own unique signing gestures and terminology.

In the case of ASL, that's because Thomas Gallaudet, who opened the first school for the Deaf in the US, learned educational methods and sign language from Laurent Clerc, a French Deaf teacher. Gallaudet did approach British educators of the deaf first, but for some reason I can't remember, they didn't want to share with him, so he went to France instead.
