Hector's left foot was different from his right.
Hector's parents knew something was strange with Hector's left foot but followed their pediatrician's advice to let some time go by first and see if his foot would straighten up on its own. As Hector got older and began playing sports, they could see it wasn't correcting itself and that they needed to seek out a solution.
In this video Hector's mom shares how that solution was a minimally invasive surgery called HyProCure. HyProCure is a minimally invasive procedure that involves inserting a small, titanium stent to help align the bones of the heel and ankle. Misalignment of these bones is what causes hyperpronation (flat feet) and gait abnormalities that lead to foot pain and fatigue.
Hector's misaligned foot and now he is able to pick out what shoes he likes without inserts and play sports with his brother and friends.
Dr. Mikkel Jarman was awarded the Master HyProCure Surgeon recognition in June 2020, and has performed hundreds of HyProCure surgeries which has helped many kids live an active childhood without worries of back, hip, or knee issues that often result from misaligned feet (hyperpronation).

I have been dealing with the same thing for about 11-10 years , the doctors always tell me the same thing , PT and shoe insoles , this causes me back pain , hip pain , knee pain and ankle pain. I really wish I could get this done so I can walk normally

Thanks for your comments. I just made a comment on another posting "I have found over the last decade in private practice that a lot of children get poor workups from providers who do not do surgery." The downside of getting a consult from a non surgical provider is that treatment options are only conservative. I always recommend a second opinion. I hope this helps. Dr. Jarman

Hi Doctor, Just a few questions for a 40 year old: Does this alleviate foot/ankle pain long term? How much does this affect ankle mobility? Can you play high foot impact sports like basketball, boxing, tennis? How does this affect running/jogging/ lifting weights such as deadlift and squats? Can all the above sports and exercises be improved/safe to do? Thank you

In our practice, patients do report relief in the ankle and foot. The stent does not affect mobility. Many adults, children and athletes have HyProCures, including marathon runners. We have provided a link addressing patient education that you may find helpful. Thanks for watching the video. www.gramedica.com/products/hyprocure/hyprocure-patient-education/

I have a friend with overpronation and I feel like his is very severe as it makes it really painful for him to walk and it gave him lower back and neck problems. We’ve contacted doctors in our areas but they’re really incompetent when it comes to believing him about having overpronation. It’s to the point where he has given up hope for any treatment and is just willing to endure the pain. Is there any way for us to reach out for a consultation?

Fixing it can be a big decision. I always say pain drives intervention or sever deformity. I hope this helps? Dr. Jarman

Thanks for your question as this is a good one! We do not recommend hypocure procedures on children under the age of 4. I perform 2-3 of these procedures every week and there are very specific criteria that need to be met before this would be recommended. My recommendation to a parent with a child with a flat foot is to watch and wait until the age of 4 unless two things are present. One the child has pain or fatigue in their foot or leg. Two your child has a severe flat foot. These are always treated with a UCBL type orthotic or an SMO initially. Lots of factors determine the correct protocol to follow. I hope this helps. Dr. Jarman

I hate that expression “he’ll grown out of it” usually it means insurance won’t cover it until it’s pretty bad and painful.

We agree, we don't like to hear parents be told a child "will grown out of it" either. And you're right sometimes insurance plans don't cover certain procedures. Most physicians will work with a patient on payment options (special self pay rates) when that is the case. Thank you for your comments.
