This bench was the first woodworking project I ever created. It was a little sad to cut it up, but I found it was only used to hold other pieces of junk that didn't have a home in my shop. I wanted to find a way to repurpose this bench to make it more useful in my workflow, get it out of the way when I don't need it, and keep it from collecting clutter. Combining the idea of a Murphy Bed and my love for french cleats, I think my new bench satisfies all those requirements !

what happens when you accidently kick the support out with your leg? i like the full length cleat assembly details

The table top can support itself (via the French cleat) without either of the leg supports. Those are just for additional support. Unless there was a lot of weight on the table top and you kicked out both legs everything would be fine. This was mostly used as a temporary work surface so I never really had anything heavy on it. Good concern though.

How much load can the supports take, given that they're suspended by hinges? I'm seriously considering this build, but with an adaptation to a moist cellar wall, so I'll have to use something else than wood for the french cleats and whatever else that touches the walls.

I did not test the bench to failure...but I can say it safely held my body weight when I sat on it. Its really mostly dependent on the supports below it and how much weight the cleats can hold.

Love the wood glue container recycle. Is the glue homemade or dumped from a larger source?

Still trying to figure things out. Are you saying you didn’t like the music? Or it was too loud? Or just that it was the same song the whole time? Would you rather have a voice over and more explanation? Thanks for the feedback!

@@FirthFabrications Not a fan of music in any video, unless it is back round music. However it was too loud... I just turned the sound off so not sure if you actually did any narration. A voice over and more explanation is always better. But the build was great.

@@mkay6089 great I appreciate the feedback. I’ve definitely had some problems with the volume. On some of my more recent videos I’ve done more commentary throughout but I’ve been told there’s still to much fluctuation in volume. I do appreciate your feedback and reasoning.

I agree it's a bit loud, but with no-commentary videos I'm not too concerned as I can lower the volume without missing any narrative. But yeah, not having to lower the volume is even better.

This is an amazing idea for small space, can it be folded down instead of up?

That will depend on the way you attach the hinge. Mine can’t, but theoretically yes, you could put the hinge on the opposite side so you can fold down instead of up.
