Yes, and some shelters will only allow you to adopt kittens less than 6 months old out as pairs. It’s so much easier with two kittens than with one. Even my one year old requires a lot of play time and sometimes I just need to do other things…she needs a play buddy

Exactly @ what everyone else said! You THINK you don't wanna be that "type of guy" but trust me, you'll regret later on that you didn't leash-train her. I leash trained my kitten and then stopped walking her for 2 years, and then we moved to a nice neighborhood that's isolated with nobody ever going outside. It was the perfect opportunity for me to let my cat get some exercise and lift her spirits. She LOVES going outside, but she has to stop and smell EVERY single thing, so you need to not think of this activity like walking a dog. Walking cats has to be on THEIR terms. After a year of walking her, I find I'm less quick to get angry or impatient. The whole time I thought I was training her, she was actually training me! I now see our walks as a meditation session. She's improved my life so much. I'd do anything for my fur child! 😂

P.S. I hate the backpacks. None of them are really that comfortable, and most of them are too cramped. I did the sensible thing and leveled up my cat lady status into "stroller pusher". Yes, this is who I am now. I have no shame anymore. If my cat can lick her hoo-ha in front of the neighbor's dog without blinking an eye, I can push my kitty around in her little Catmobile as the breeze whips through her fur and her eyes close in pure ecstacy. Also, now I can get my exercise out of our walks! When she's ready to get down, she tells me. I leash her up & walk her with one hand, while slowly pushing the stroller with the other. This has been the best compromise of our relationship. I'm traveling abroad rn, and I actually MISS that damn stroller (& my cat, of course). I NEED these walks back in my life, I've been so darn stressed lately LMAO.

@@davecopp9356 domestic house cats are not part of most ecosystems. They would be considered invasive if they were not pets. If someone’s pet gold fish gets into the local water systems they can destroy the local eco systems. Cats can do a similar kind of damage. Just because you’ve always seen them around does not mean they are an indigenous species to the area. Humans bring all kinds of species all over the place, but transplanting a new species into an existing eco systems can cause a lot of havoc I’m not hating on outdoor cats or their cat parents though, I’m just saying. Facts is facts. If you look up the life expectancy difference between an indoor vs an outdoor cat- it’s definitely of note for that reason too, not just the birds. That said, if you have an outdoor cat and they’re used to that kind of lifestyle it can be cruel to bring them inside- but maybe think about it for your next cat. You need to play with them with wand toys more and cannot skip having cat appropriate furniture or litter boxes, but to me at least, it’s definitely worth it to see my cats live longer lives, and the birds can too 😂

Indians came from the north down to the south in north america, killed the men and older boys and took the squaws and little children into the tribe as second or third squaw. Later the white settlers came and were stronger and had better weapons and took over. In nature the one who is stronger takes what he wants. Nature is immoral. There is no judgement in nature. A cute little mouse, even if she is pregnant gets eaten by a snake if she was unlucky. I always laugh when I hear people put nature as something it needs to be protected at all cost like it is sacret. Look at the wind mills they put in the beatuifull spots in nature which destroys the value of the view for every living being in the name of producing so called clean energy when in reality the materials they use create more polution then atomic energy. Nature is brutal and immoral. It will find always it´s own equilibrium.

@@Megforest1 We do NOT let DOGS run wild, out of the house. WHY CATS ? I used to think cats belonged outdoors too. Growing up, in the 1960s, we had a cat, Smokey. One day, he disappeared. Who knows where he went ? OUTDOOR CATS are great on the farm, where they sleep in the BARN and keep the mice and rat population down, but really, not in the city. The city is DANGEROUS for cats. Outdoor cats get killed BEFORE THEIR TIME, by raccoons, COYOTES (where I live), or they get hit by cars. There are also sadists out there that prey on poor animals that are sweet and innocent You do not want your dear kitty to end up that way, do you ? Keep them indoors, or take them out ON A LEASH, unless you live on the farm or some big acreage. There are two cats left in my household, both seniors, and they both lived outdoors when they were strays, before we took them in. Now, they live the retired life and they are well looked after. 😊 Best wishes to all.

Diana Wilde, she's really cute, but I hope she's not 100% British Shorthair. They're somewhat lacking in affection. The other cats also seem cold natured, so maybe she's the real thing. They're also sufficiently chunky.

My cats loved to play with "WalMart" plastic bags, tied up so the air was trapped inside (like a balloon) - also, a hi intensity flashlight would drive them to distraction! trying to 'catch' the light wherever it went! luv cats ... congrats!

Yeah, our girl is now 1 year old and she loves walking out with harness (I walk with her everyday, that get's me out of house). It was pretty easy to get her used to it, we just put it on and then play like we normally did, she totally forgot the harness during the play. Also, having an indoor cat was better for my mental health as I didn't have to worry where she might be alone outside.

Personally, I doubt that children could top the pet experiences I've had...in fact, I'm sure they could not in most instances. My tabby girl, Maya, on the second try, walked on the leash as if she was born with it. She is an indoor cat mostly with a catio, but we have a huge garden. The reason for keeping her indoor and on a leash outside, is that we have neighbours who are not cat friendly and shot our previous cat with a pellet gun in her bum, leaving a big hole. After stitches and healing she never left the garden again to roam the neighborhood. Also there are people who poisen the cats, because they don't like them coming into their yards. Horrible people, but that's the reason for the leash and she now asks for it when she wants to go outside (just like a dog 😺🐶). 🇿🇦

@@Patchy Well, 5 of the 6 are indoor/outdoor, but all are in at night. I love all animals but cats are way easier in many ways than dogs....they are more independent by nature. And yes, Crab Puffing is when a kitten goes all sideways and puffs up a bit, especially the tail, and the chirp we as well call a trill, and when they get crazy and bounce off the walls and skid across the floor its Zoomies! Enjoy Junior, she is so gorgeous and obviously very sweet.

They can land wrong and get hurt too though, so I applaud your precautions, especially since she is so small and inexperienced. My cat fell from a window ledge and landed awkwardly once, and gave himself a limp for a while.

@@Patchy ..yeah actually, besides the obvious issues with potential leg breaks and stuff like that shorter distances can actually be worse for a cat than higher falls (to an extent offcourse). If they dont manage to empty their bladders fast enough they might get injured or broken, and that is potentially a death sentence, so I'ld say that its brilliant to do what you do. ;-)

She's not stupid. You don't need to worry about her throwing herself from the balcony.

for a kitten i would say it's quite a fall but for an adult it's a 4 feet easy clap landing ;)

Exactly, I really don't understand why dogs (if lucky) can be walked outside on a leash but cats can't. Why do people do not realize that a cat is just like a dog? A cat is curious, is an explorer, is territorial.. Just take the cat out for a walk or build a catio in the garden.

Yeah I'm thinking I will get another one at some point. We always had at least two in the house and I think it does make a difference.

The costs actually do double because they need double the amount of food, litter and vet visits. There's nothing wrong with that though, having two cats is really not expensive. There's decent food for 1 €/400 g which feeds 2 small cats for one day. So with litter you'd pay about 50 €/month for two cats, vet excluded. If it's bad, you can get medical insurance for 20 €, once a year checkups on a healthy cat and emergency visits should be fine though. And it's totally worth it even if you paid 100 € for two cats per month. They improve quality of life and they're living beings that deserve respect. If you care about money so much, don't adopt a cat.

@@yoriex3577 they don't. I speak of experience. As I said I have 5 cats. Back when I had one I paid about 30€ a month. Now I'm at 100€ with 5. The more you have the bigger food boxes you can buy which grants you discounts if you buy clever.

I wish I was at 30 bucks a month/cat 😭 I guess it works when you have more than 2 cats, since buying bulk (800g) or en masse really is cheaper. Just as a general thought to anyone who's reading on: To me, it's most important to get food with a decent amount of meat - no sugar, no grain or soy or other plants for filling and especially a minimum of 60 to 70 % meat and the labeling needs to be transparent about what is inside. When I want to buy food like that, the average cost for 100g is at 0,50 € / 50 ct. right now for the "cheapest" options. With most products below that barely scraping the above mentioned requirements. The expensive stuff is at around 1€/100g which I won't ever afford. Most food I buy is usually at 60 ct./100g which, in our case (2 boys of around 5kg) amounts to 600g/day making it approx. 18300g/month - I pay roughly 110€ per month for 2 boys when they are eating their fill at home 😅 maybe you have good food options at a lower price range but this is my reality (i live in Germany, ordering from online stores doesn't quite help with lowering the cost as much as it did 2 years ago for me, only when I want to get 800g cans which do have a lower price per 100g). Anyway, just as an addition to the shared experiences here :) I don't see myself getting cheaper food unless it meets those conditions so I bear that financial "weight", as a poor person xD also don't forget to put money aside for vet costs - you never know 😔better be able to act quickly. I know too many people who own cats/pets and didn't learn their child's (body) language to read the signs properly or pay attention at all. Nvm, have fun spending a part of your lives with your babies y'all :) it's a priceless experience.. at least, you know, when you don't consider the financials too much! 😂

I was thinking that too. Maybe keep up the barrier while she's still a kitten and could be startled and lose her balance at the top, but our cats sit just like that at the top of our stairs railing and they give me little panic attacks...but they know what they're doing. 😼

I think I've just got a bit of residual worry from the stupid cats I've had in the past haha. One of ours fell out of the upstairs window once, so you might just have smarter cats than me...!

@@Patchy I'm a bit late but I also wanted to recommend a proper cat harness and not a single collar!:) Cats are extremely flexible and if your cat gets spooked, she will slip out of the collar with ease. It's possible with harnesses as well but a much lesser chance, especially with harnesses designed especially for cats. Their necks are pretty fragile as well so you definitely don't want a collar by itself

@@goose8368 whilst I agree with you, I did try the harness and you would not believe: my cat forced it out of his body. The single collar surprisingly🥰 worked and I made sure it was properl;y set, not too tight, but also not too loose !
