I know this is for your business but this is helpful for me as a new homeowner and figuring out how to store stuff and bringing tools in from my detached garage to work on stuff in the house. Thanks!
Awesome setup. When you said you live in the rust belt and I noticed the Michigan sticker in the background, I already knew the same pain. Michigander here starting my packout collection. Every season, my precious batteries have to come inside to avoid killing the life on them.
Yep. Grew up in Michigan. Live just over the state line in the Hoosier state now. I feel your pain with the batteries. It is what it is though. Too expensive to replace them. My dad doesn’t bring them in and definitely has had to replace more then I have. Thanks for the comment.
Awesome walkthrough. Thank you. Watching that last shelf tip. Somebody watching this needs to come up with a drawer system so I can mount a packout underneath my workbench top. I have all my tools under my workbench, then pull them out and stack them and hit the road. Or better yet, a rolling cart frame that combines two rolling toolboxes. OK I'll quit making money for other people and get back to shopping. :-)
Great set up and I learned something new today. I bought my son the wheeled box and one of the large organizers for his 18th b-day because we love our collection and we wanted to start him off right. Now he gets to work at filling them and adding to them.
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. For years, I used a regular dolly and a huge trash can to carry my tools on to a job sight and back into my van. I just ordered my first milwaukee dolly and sliding drawer boxes with some baskets gonna give it a try and see how I like them.
I would use lacquer or shellac to SEAl the entire interior and bottom of lid too. It works no more smell or minimize the amount of the smell. Be very generous to all the boxes, trays !! I did it and it works!!!
You beat my Pack-out collection. I am still thinking of other ones I need. I understand how the organization evolves to suit jobs that you get. Yes, the dolly is handy. I put a leash on it.
From one collector 2 another. The best way to get rid of the plastic smell is using the California Scent Car Air Freshener & Fragrance ICE or LEATHER they got plenty of scents smells and for the budget GUYS get a LITTLE TREE 🌲. That will literally stick to the plastic smell. Works for me. The plastic smell gives me a headache during time and since I use mines as a work station HELL I smell like I'm in my truck all the time 🤣 that there my HEADQUARTERS. Great collection of Packouts.
Got my first set today, and I caught on why you unlock everything before you open it on the cart. smart. the lids hit the handle on the box with wheels, but the bottom box actually opens and locks in place. milwaukee is going to be my new favorite brand... thanks for the nice vid. screw box is next.
nice system -- I am going to be getting some packout boxes to redo my tools that I carry with me in the truck... with regards to the mounting plates - you can get aftermarket plates which have a smaller profile. I am going to be getting some single plates for my ATV rack, as I want to carry the slim tool box, and the cooler with me when I ride in the forest.
Yep. Since this video I have taken out the Milwaukee mounting plates and replaced them with 3D printed ones. I was able to fit three wide on a shelf instead of two wide with the 3D printed ones.
I just started my Packout stack and I love 'em~!! I bought the DeWalt set and returned it for a refund almost immediately. Now, I'm scanning the web for every Packout DIY upgrade/enhancement I can find. Great product~!
Yes I had quite a few of the DeWalt tough system as well. I think the weight is better with the DeWalt but the latching system is terrible. That’s what sold me on the Packout system was the ease of moving them around and latching them. The rest is history!!
@@packoutjunkie5813 After I returned it, I saw someone's video where he tested the toughness by dropping a drill/driver with battery on them. It bounced off of the Packout, whereas it went thru the Dewalt's lid. Made me happy that I switched~!
Great stuff.. I’m trying to find a way to get the larger bins to work in the organizer or compact organizer, so far no luck.. heard you mention that the larger bins could work but I don’t think it would.. been looking into 3D printing some bins but haven’t gotten to it yet..
Rapid charging is harder on batteries for sure, especially nimh, lithium is NOT nearly as sensitive. Using them hard is much harder on them. Bottom line is heat, the cooler they are charging OR using is key to longevity,
Great Video. I'm impressed. There's a couple of things that seems to be missing from the PackOut system. I carry some long tools such as hand saws 22 inch (550mm) and 24 inch (600mm) also some long spirit levels 78 inch (2000mm). I've yet to see a PackOut system that caters to these longer tools. I'm using cable ties at the moment but would rather a designated holder/ holster for these tools. 💛💜💛
I agree. I feel that Milwaukee missed the mark on some of that stuff. I don’t think we should have to turn to aftermarket 3D printed stuff to get it right. For the level check out the flex stack pack level holder. They are built well and they adapt to the Packout easily.
Yes you definitely have a problem.... your problem is you don't have enough lol. Never can have enough of these systems there so much damn fun and cool as it gets.
Here is what the engineers at both Milwaukee and DeWalt say about chargers and batteries. Charge the battery in the charger that it came with. Older, less technological batteries will last longer when used in a slower charger. The new/newer batteries have the technology to communicate with the new/newer chargers which will keep your batteries "healthy"(?) longer. Can it be a pain? Possibly, but if you have a color code, be it paint/tape etc. on the batteries and chargers, it isn't that hard to keep track of which goes where.
Nice setup ! Its an addiction ! I keep buying more! Getting close to how many I have and I still need about 5 more for the rest of my small tools! I ordered 4 drawer boxes and the two wheel cart. You should retire the m12 screwdriver and get a installation driver! I have had it for a year now and absolutely love it!! I use it mostly for cabinet installs and its been through 10 kitchen jobs and going strong!!
It is an addition for sure. I have thought about the drawer units but I think I am going to have to wait them out and see how they work. I have eyeballed the installation driver for a while as well. My dad has it. Maybe if a deal comes around again I will grab it. Check my video out on a DIY Packout cart. Let me know what you think, since you have legit one. It’s not perfect but works.
I will stick with Milwaukee for life. BUT.... In milwaukee fashion, they blow your mind with the packout concept and once you bought tonnes of it, they then come out with the packout with drawers. I know each one has pros and cons due to needs but for me, I'd rather have the drawer kind. Urghhh. Dont worry Milwaukee, your still my boy.
Now with the drawer packouts they need a XL box with a single drawer for the bottom of the stack for the oversized tools. I am looking at building a packout stack and going all drawers for the most part. I don't want to be unstacking anything to get to the stuff that is in them. I think they need to modify that dolly for wider wheel placement and all terrain tires/wheels. Milwaukee needs to get busy refining this.
I agree with you all the way around. I am working on getting more drawers myself. Agree 100% on the dolly as well. Check out my DIY dolly video for what I did.
I do handyman work part time and my current setup which is the Rigid box system. 2 stacks Rolling box, tool box, small box for cordless and 2 clear top organizers which works ok and has served me well over the years and at the time was a lot less expensive. I'm really liking the Packout system! Milwaukee has thought it out with their product with a grip of options. My only complaint is they are hella expensive! For me to replace my current setup would cost me well over a grand and I'm having a real hard time telling myself that I need to replace my Rigid boxes. I know i'm going to at some point so I will probably just buy one piece at a time until I have everything I need. Thanks for the trip through your setup!
It is pricey for sure. I only had a few DeWalt boxes when I switched. The Rigid is a nice system and they have come out with quite a few newer boxes lately. I would have a hard time switching to if I was that committed. You will not regret switching when if you do. Just be careful it is addictive. 👍🏻
@@packoutjunkie5813 oh yeah! I have been watching as many vids as I can as to arm myself with as much info as I can. I’m leaning towards the drawer style for tools and the clear lid style for fasteners!
seeing this really makes me feel better about my addiction, but dang none of my stuff is this clean. Are you sure you actually work with these tools.LOL nice set up.
My tools would need to be organized into daily tasks; carpentry, drywall, residential electrical, commercial electrical, plumbing, painting, battery charging, etc.
Nice your!! You have as much invested in Packout as you do in actual tools...lol. Get some Kaizen foam to nest your good tools in so they roll around and get damaged inside the boxes... Brian from Kaizen Inserts sells pre-cut foam inserts that are cut to fit inside the Packout boxes.
Honestly I think it stuck around from my old DeWalt 18 volt Ni-cad battery days. Quick charging them just killed them. I know the Lithium Ion batteries are different but I just feel that rapid charging anything isn’t the best way to go. With the large batteries manufactures are going the way of the rapid charge all the time. I guess time will tell. At $200 a piece for the 12ah batteries, I am not sure the risk is worth it. Just my opinion, no expert.
In the military our hydration packs would get a nasty rubber smell and taste, we’d put a ton of baking soda and water in them and shake them as often as we could for a couple days to a week, the taste and smell would clear. Try it
Sorry I missed this. There is what I used. www.ebay.com/itm/Milwaukee-Packout-Tool-Case-Box-Wall-Mount-Hanging-Cleats-/184176021325?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0

Ha ha. They are 1/4” sanded plywood. Made a hole at the top to be able to pull them out. You will have to trim the bottom a little to get them to fit they are not completely flat.
I bought the ext cord from Menards. It’s a 12/3 with lighted ends. I personally don’t buy anything smaller then a 12ga cord. Here’s the link to the one I purchased. 20 bucks a piece for the small organiser, $74 each here in Australia, $352 for the rolling box, $76 for the large organiser, $118 for the 15” tool tote
Yup, I'd go nuts with box swappin' . I'd prefer drawers, but I don't think plastic drawers are tough enough. Plastic degenerates over time and becomes crack prone at the corners. I have a bunch of Akro bins that have turned to shit over time. This system is great for storing stuff that you'd seldom use, or for moving it all across the country without losing it.
