Loved this video! I've been fascinated with Greenland my whole life(a little odd for a 34 year old, scrawny housewife/mom from Detroit, MI). When I was only 3, one of my big brothers told me that Santa Claus lived in Greenland. After that, I was obsessed. Obviously, I have long since figured out the truth about that, but my fascination with the island has only continued to grow. What I really loved about this video is that you showed us some of the everyday parts of Nuuk, such as the downtown, the nightclub, and the department store(I LOVE seeing department stores from around the world!). I am fascinated with whatevery day, modern life is like in Nuuk. Most videos, books, blogs, articles, etc about Greenland focus on the brutal climate, nature, and the rather tragic history of both the indigenous peoples and Norse peoples. Most information on the culture of the people focuses on the same information, and often focuses on the negative aspects such as poverty, alcoholism, and abuse. While I realise these are very real problems, they are also not the only things going on with the Greenlandic people. Thank you for giving us a little glimpse at what it's like in hip-and-happening downtown Nuuk!
It's good to know there are other Greenlandophiles out there. I live in about the most opposite place to Greenland that you can imagine, but since I was a little kid I have had this obsession with all things Greenlandic. The first time I heard spoken Greenlandic here on YT something inside me literally jumped with recognition, like a cellular response. It's a weird thing, I don't believe in reincarnation, but if I did I once lived in Greenland. Hope to get there sooner or later.
Thank you. I'm really glad that someone outside of Greenland knows that we are not just "alcholic people" and all that, but we are so much more than that! And yes SANTA LIVES IN GREENLAND! 💕🎅
There is two flower shops here in Nuuk - real flowers from abroad are they selling. I am a greenlander and live here in Nuuk, not all greenlanders are alcoholic, remember that. And there is no iglo, unless if we build it ourself like when we build a snowman haha.
Hey Jason i just want to say that i love the Video and the funny is that i live in Nuuk, i love every word that you say about Nuuk, i hope that you will see this comment.
Great video ! Just letting you know that we are also inuit in Canada. Eskimo "Eskimo'' is a pejorative term for us as well. Thanks for the video and safe travels! :)
06:00 Whale, not reindeer and mox ox right after :) and there are dogs, just not sled dogs ;)

Nice Jason, pretty awesome place to visit! I have the same problem with the cold, so i got this one. Cant post a link because youtube will sensor it but take a look on E bay and they are called Warm Glove Cold Air Shield Hood Hand Warmer for RC Transmitter. Really nice when you don't have a car around :) You shoot much more tripod shots, really nice. I never have the time for it, because the kids run the other way! haha.
I'll check out those gloves, although I just got gorilla skin gloves today so they work with my iphone touch screen. So glad you noticed the shot types! It's a consciences decision to reduce camera shake and improve composition. The gorilla pod works well for quick set up and snow banks get it off the ground by a couple feet.
Hi Jason, Great video! Just for your information, our parliament is about to approve a law that gives the government a mandat to build 3 airports. 2 International airports 2.200m in length, one in Ilulissat and the other one here in Nuuk and one regional airport (1.500m) in Qaqortoq, Southgreenland. All 3 airports should be ready for use in fall 2022. So for those who have a dream of visiting our amazing country - the biggest Island in the world, with 3 UNESCO sites, should have much better opportunity to travel directly to one of the towns with a brand new international airport in the future. all the best from Nuuk, Greenland
Hi I'm a french guy. Salut je suis français. I like your video but i don't understand did you say because my english is so bad but the picture is beautiful :D Good continuation and Hello of Paris :D
I hope people take this video with a grain of salt because there were some misinformation in the video. There are dogs in Nuuk all kinds except the Greenlandic husky, those dogs are considered working/hunting sled dogs and they are found north of the Arctic circle. South of the Arctic circle there are pet dog, cats, hamsters, rabbits and so on. Also in Greenland and in Canada’s north we don’t call ourselves Eskimo, that is a introduced name by foreigners, in Greenland they call themselves Kalaallit and Inuit in Canada. It’s actually not that cold in Greenland even though it’s in the Arctic compared to other parts of the Arctic such as Canada and Alaska, take a look at Nuuk weather online and you will be surprised how cold or warm it is. January 6 today and it’s -1 Celsius or 31 Fahrenheit, not that cold for the dead of winter in the arctic but I can see it might be for some. Enjoyed your video but wanted to point out some things.
They do the power /card hotel room thingy in Germany when I was there. They want to make sure dorks don't leave a hotel room with lights & tv on... Makes sense.
GoodDay Sir Jayson , im Jeff from Philippines... were planned to visit Iceland soon with my Family ... and im looking for a Action Camera to bring on our trip... may i know name of Camera your using on this Vlog ... really Great video capture , Stabilization Nice , and Audio so clear ... hope u can share with us. Thanks
Osmo Mobile is my go to steady rig. Always love the footage that I shoot with it. Good luck on your up coming adventure! You'll have a blast! Iceland is so unique
There are dogs in Nuuk but no wild ones, and many have cars cause it too cold to walk XD but people living in the centrum of the city don't really need a car, so that might be what you're referring to
WoW airlines is super cheap to Iceland right now, like $400 round trip from LA, but getting to Greenland from Iceland will cost more then twice that haha
Thanks.. Yes.. I see that, flights from NYC area are only 400 to Iceland.. but another 400 or 500 to Greenland... No direct flights into Nuuk... It seems like an amazing place. Thanks for the comment back!
--I was thinking how cool it would be if Greenland became an independent kingdom with Prince Joachim of Denmark as king to maintain the connection in a personal way. I think it would be good to have a Royal Guard unit of infantry, artillery, and a band. Since the flag is red and white, I say dress the Guards like those of Denmark with red jackets (for color too), white facings of collar and cuffs, white trousers with a red stripe to give some badly needed color to the local scene and bring in tourists. I'm sure Trump will see about US investments in the country, as the Chinese seem to be investing there, and he won't like that. Anyway, my best wishes to Greenland and thanks to you for your video. Go again in the summer time !
FRAGIORGIO1, While impedance is a dream of most people here, the reality of it is far more difficult. If we were independent we would be sitting ducks for the major powers of the world. The US with trump would love to annex us, but they don’t because Denmark, although small compared to the US, is one of the US closest friends and allies in Europe. If the US treated Denmark like shit, it would not go down well with other much larger European countries that still consider themselves friends of the US, in spite of that current madman in the White House. The might of the Eagle (US) ensures that the Russian bear and the Chinese dragon, whom both are eyeing this delicious piece of real estate for its vast mineral potentials, don’t extend their greedy paws to claim it. Nor do we have the financial means or the necessary man power to keep and maintain an independence. Greenland only has a population of 56,000. The same size as a small village in China or a minor town in Europe. While we have the space for millions of people, due to the Arctic environment, we wouldn’t be able to feed a large population. Except for local meat, fish and some potatoes growing in the South, most of our food is imported. If Greenland had been located in a more temperate or tropical region of the world and no ice cap, we would probably have had a population of millions.
@@julianneheindorf5757 --Thank you, but I do differ on your evaluation of Trump, who is no "madman". He sounds erratic, but he is very intelligent and perceptive politically, as he has seen the State Dept's New Cold War on Russia has no benefits for the US, and is driving Russia towards China, uniting two possible enemies ! Foolish policy of State. Trump has brought business back to the US and made it more competititive with Europe, thus creating more jobs before the Pandemic crisis. He also is withdrawing us from wars in Afghanistan and Syria which previous administrations got us into (as well as Iraq and Libya). State created a crisis in Ukraine using a far right regime after they engineered a coup d'etat that ousted the legitimate president..Trump has defended American workers by truying to control the influx of cheap labor and of crimial eleents from south of the border. Some Europeans don't like him because he has made US more competititve and has really downplayed NATO, a US creation for controlling compliant European govts. I give him a big Thumbs up for Policies, even if he speaks or acts curiously due to his problems with narcissisism. He is very intelligent and has gotten Billions of $$ by Not being stupid. He even got Kim of NK to dialog on nuclear arms, and Kim has been faithful on Not using them for over 2 years! Bood luck to you and fellow Greenlanders!
The singer's name is Frederik Elsner, either way that's from his new debut solo album or from Nanook song. I actually don't know which song it was played.
It was Danish indeedon the package. This guy is a nice guy I don't wanna hurt him but really - Americans go d everything weird that's not their culture. Let it be language or a door or a window. It snowpants. How could be go to go Greenland without snowpants?
@@skojigoquist9288 From the way he said it I think he was trying to be funny, not trying to insult anyone. He was cracking jokes and cutting up throughout the video. I don't think he meant it disrespectfully. You're taking him too seriously.
JASON! DID YOU REMEMBER GLOVES?? Greenlandic busstop girl, who also see GOT and thinks the prince have at strange relationship with his sister.. hmmm.. can I be more specifik?
Since we can only have like dogs from around the world, it's legal to own a pet dog and not an actual Greenlandic dog. But it could also be the people who peed while they were drunk.
Sorry, mate, but you are spreading the knowledge of a tourist. Just read some of the comments of locals. By the way, those energy preservations in your hotel are just european style.
Music 🎵 with these kind of videos is most distracting and not needed at all..and so gross for you to show us your blowing your snot on the ground..could not watch past that disgusting act
