Absolutely, the Navy pilots did some of the most awesome flying around but let us not forget the maintenance crews and crew chiefs that keep these airplanes in the sky. I am sure they worked countless of hours before and after the cameras stopped rolling so that the actor's and pilots could go do their thing.
Our young Navy service men and service women are the very best…..they are Warriors…..I always felt confident every time I climbed into the cockpit that their selfless efforts, superior knowledge and attention to detail would get me back home. They are the Best of the Best!
Watched the movie yesterday and it surpassed my expectations by a huge margin. The aerial scenes are something never before seen in movie- making and the flick will be a turning point in Aviation cinema for time to go.
Finally! I watched top gun with my family four times and every time I waited in the theater to read all of the credits and I just have felt like it’s a giant miss that they did not give more credit to those pilots. Should have been the first credit given, in my opinion. Great film.
The same thing occurs during summer air shows all over the country. Drawing huge crowds with little kids who are awed enough to later pursue a military or civilian flying career. There's always that one incredible, unforgettable experience in youth sparking a lifelong interest in/love for aviation.
Best movie I’ve seen in the last 20+ yrs easy. My 2 boys love it and all they talk about is TopGun and how they want to grow up to be pilots. We’ve watched it several times by now and they even like all the music associated with the movie.
@@wishiwereinvegas4738 I watched it live for about 15 minutes, I saw interviews with tom cruise, miles teller and like 1-2 other cast members and don't recall them saying anything about the pilots, I remember being in disbelief that they actually flew them and still believed they did untill I realised that they can be controlled from both seats. I would need to rewatch it to confirm.
@@user-xc7uo6md3n bro, tom said in a interview that he wanted to fly himself but navy didn't allow that because 1 jet nearly cost half of movie budget. But he did fly his own plane in the movie.
We saw the movie last night. It’s the best movie ever. Congratulations to everyone involved in this film. Great quality movie that we hardly seen nowadays.
They had to do some green screen for some scenes, for some scenes with Phoenix and Payback you can actually see the back seat position missing if you look carefully.
Everyone that was involved in the making of this movie is a hero... There's no flying without the maintenance crew to begin with so yeah, credit goes many ways

Every pilot involved in making this film was credited, but their names were tucked away near the end. They should have had their names and images in the credits right up there next to the actors.
This is professional jet pilot (gone thro extremely selection process in airforce), not a person just having money to buy jets or pay for private jet instructor to learn how to play with jets until got a licence.
A lot of people still think the top gun actors really flew the planes. In fact Tom and the rest of the crew make it out to be that way and talk about all the "training" they went through, to be able to "fly" these planes. Yet they always defer those questions and make it seem like they were the ones really flying it. I like how CBS gives credit to where credit is due.
No? In the bts they say, specifically, that they had to train to fly back-seat. I don't think I've seen a single interview of any of the actors claiming that they actually piloted those jets.
Tom is a seasoned pilot but he and the crew never said they actually flew those fighter jets in the movie but the training was real. You’d be throwing up or even passing out just sitting in those fighter jets doing those maneuvers not to mention acting.
Seen the movie today, loved the movie but was it just me or did the story have kind of of a Star Wars twist, fly down a trench and hit a small target. Other then that excellent movie
2 pilots? So why is there only 1 seated f18 in the films? That makes no sense, and let’s not forget the the sr-72 (dark star) that plane is only flown by one pilot. 💀
Thats because they can have actors fly military aircraft so they use 2 seater put the actor in the back for the cockpit scenes then in out side scenes use a pilot that looks like them wearing there helmet
Darkstar is a fictional plane, skunk works however, built an actual model and made it look like real. No plane in existence is capable of reaching Mach10. SR-71/ Blackbird, the fastest plane ever built only has top speed of Mach 3. It's successor SR-72 Son of BlackBird is expected to reach a top speed of Mach6. It's UAV though.
I can guarantee you that this was a mix of real and computer generated images. 0:48 never happened. The government would never allow something like that at ANY time, let alone for a movie.
@Shiro Dragon there was an interview with the real pilots (on 'the fighter pilot podcast') that said there was no CGI, but it was 2 shots stacked. One shot with 2 planes breaking left and right One shot with the hornet flying up. Stick those shots over one another and voila, no CGI, but also no risk to the planes
Why do I have to overreach on opportunities to fly military jets? It’s a great movie very factual But if you want to live it for real you got to use and go through the sacrifice of all the credentials to fly in single C fitters .
I was 16 in 1986 but 1990 I ended up in the Royal Air Force in the UK. You had women gushing over TC, but having forces ID especially in my home town, would get a few ladies free and easy. However, old age I had to remember what I was going to post. I would hate to work in a cinema as I know that you would have people say I feel the need, the need for popcorn or cola or something stupid like that, thinking that they were the first people to say it.
How come Hollywood never made a modern avation movie featuring the U S Air force. It is always the "Navy"?? What wrong with the Air Force. It is the Air Force that has the tradition! Flying against the Japanese Air Foece was no comparison to Flying against the Luftwaffe. The Zero was a kite compared to the FW190, Me 262 and Me109. Nuff said.
